Abstract:TiO2 nanotube arrays (TiO2-NTAs) were respectively fabricated using traditional one-step oxidation and re-oxidation method on a titanium surface in fluorine-containing electrolytes. Microstructures, optical properties of specimen were characterized by X-ray diffractometer, digital microscope, field-emission scanning electron microscope and ultraviolet-visible spectroscope. Compared with the one-step oxidation, the resulted samples showed more uniform surface, longer tube length and statistical higher absorption in visible light region. Importantly, a new growth mechanism named template-induced growth model is proposed to explain the growth of TiO2-NTAs prepared by re-oxidation approach in present work. Besides, water contact angles of samples before and after irradiated by UV light were measured and discussed in detail. It is confirmed that samples obtained from re-oxidation method have more hydroxyl groups can be formed when irradiated by UV light, which lead to more sensitive light-induced hydrophilicity finally. The light-induced hydrophilic performance of TiO2-NTAs would be favorable to improve the likelihood of electrolyte contacting of the surface, which is useful in many realistic application instances. Abstract:Vertically-oriented one-dimensional TiO2 nanotube (TNT) arrays have been fabricated by anodic oxidation using different electrolyte solvents, including ethylene glycol (EG), diethylene glycol (DEG), and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), in the presence of hydrofluoric acid (HF) or ammonium fluoride (NH4F). The influence of synthetic conditions, including the nature of the electrolyte and anodization voltage, on nanotube microstructure has been systematically investigated. Highly-ordered TNTs with tube length of similar to 0.5-26.7 mu m, inner diameter of similar to 13-201 nm, and outer diameter of similar to 28-250 nm have been obtained. The conversion of as-prepared TNT arrays from amorphous phase to crystalline structure has been achieved by a post-synthetic annealing at 500 degrees C for 3 h in oxygen ambient. The TNT arrays with tunable sizes and structures are attractive for use as electrode materials in fabrication of thin film solar cells and highly active photocatalysts.

Abstract:Highly ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays with large diameter of 680–750nm have been prepared by high voltage anodization in an electrolyte containing ethylene glycol at room temperature. To effectively suppress dielectric breakdown due to high voltage, pre-anodized TiO2 film was formed prior to the main anodizing process. Vertically aligned, large sized TiO2 nanotubes with double-wall structure have been demonstrated by SEM in detail under various anodizing voltages up to 225V. The interface between the inner and outer walls in the double-wall configuration is porous. Surface topography of the large diameter TiO2 nanotube array is substantially improved and effective control of the growth of large diameter TiO2 nanotube array is achieved. Interestingly, the hemispherical barrier layer located at the bottom of TiO2 nanotubes formed in this work has crinkles analogous to the morphology of the brain cortex. These structures are potentially useful for orthopedic implants, storage of biological agents for controlled release, and solar cell applications.

Abstract:We report a two-step anodizing approach for the fabrication of large-scale open-ended TiO2 nanotube arrays (TNAs) on a conductive Au layer. In this method, a deposited Ti/Au bilayer film is initially anodized under a high potential to form and shape the TNAs. A following low potential is then in situ applied at a suitable time to slowly eliminate the remaining barrier layer at the bottom of the TNAs without further treatment. Abstract:Multistep electrochemical anodization is an electrochemical experiment orderly conducting in different electrolytes. In this paper, TiO2 nanotube arrays have been firstly anodic grown in aqueous electrolyte (H3PO4/HF) and later anodic grown in organic electrolyte (glycerol/NH4F). Compared with separately anodizing in aqueous and organic electrolyte, the morphology of the resulting nanotube arrays can be optimized. SEM images showed that the obtained nanotubes have a length of more than 2 mu m and single-pore diameter ranging from 120 to 150 nm. The current work indicates that the multistep electrochemical anodization has a contribution to the optimization of the morphology of TiO2 nanotube arrays.

Abstract:Nanoscale engineering of regular structured materials is immensely demanded in various scientific areas. In this work, vertically oriented TiO2 nanotube arrays were grown by self-organizing electrochemical anodization. The effects of different fluoride ion concentrations (0.2 and 0.5 wt% NH4F) and different anodization times (2, 5, 10 and 20 h) on the morphology of nanotubes were systematically studied in an organic electrolyte (glycol). The growth mechanisms of amorphous and anatase TiO2 nanotubes were also studied. Under optimized conditions, we obtained TiO2 nanotubes with tube diameters of 70–160 nm and tube lengths of 6.5–45 μm. Serving as free-standing and binder-free electrodes, the kinetic, capacity, and stability performances of TiO2 nanotubes were tested as lithium-ion battery anodes. This work provides a facile strategy for constructing self-organized materials with optimized functionalities for applications.

Abstract:We report a facile method to grow multi-sectional TiO 2 nanotube arrays consisting of alternating bamboo-shaped and smooth-walled nanotube sections by anodization. Two key factors are necessary for obtaining these morphologies. First, in order to avoid possible disruptions between the conjoint sections of the nanotube, the distribution of hydrogen ions is suggested not to be fiercely disturbed when switching from the first to the second stage. Second, to avoid the disruption of the nanotube at the joint which results from the disparity in diameters between sections, the direct current voltage is set to be the maximum of the square wave voltage. These newly developed TiO 2 nanotube arrays are expected to have potential applications in solar cells, drug release and delivery systems.

Abstract:Highly ordered TiO2 nanotubular arrays have been prepared by two-step anodization under high field. The high anodizing current densities lead to a high-speed film growth (0.40–1.00 µm min − 1), which is nearly 16 times faster than traditional fabrication of TiO2 at low field. It was found that an annealing process of Ti foil is an effective approach to get a monodisperse and double-pass TiO2 nanotubular layer with a gradient pore diameter and ultrathin tube wall (nearly 10 nm). A higher anodic voltage and longer anodization time are beneficial to the formation of ultrathin tube walls. This approach is simple and cost-effective in fabricating high-quality ordered TiO2 nanotubular arrays for practical applications.

Abstract:Highly ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays were fabricated by electrochemical anodization of titanium in an NH4F/H3PO4 electrolyte. A TiO2 crystal phase was identified by X-ray diffraction, and the morphology, length and pore diameter of the TiO2 nanotube arrays were determined by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The anodization parameters including the rate of magnetic stirring, F− concentration, calcination temperature, anodization voltage and anodization time were investigated in detail. The results show that the as-prepared TiO2 nanotube arrays possessed good uniformity, a well-aligned morphology with a length of 750nm and an average pore diameter of 62nm at a 150rpm rate of magnetic stirring for 120min at 20V in an electrolyte mixture of 0.2M H3PO4 and 0.3M NH4F with a 500°C calcination to obtain 100% anatase phase. The adsorption of N-719 dye at different tube lengths was determined by UV-vis analysis and found to increase with increasing tube length. We also discuss the formation mechanism of the TiO2 nanotube arrays. The findings indicate that the formation of the TiO2 nanotube arrays proceeds by the combined action of the electrochemical etching and chemical dissolution.

Abstract:We have carried out a detailed investigation of the effect of water content on the electrochemical anodization of Ti in electrolytes consisting of ammonium fluoride, water, and ethylene glycol. We have explored the possible growth of ordered TiO(2) nanotubes in the electrolyte with water concentrations from 1 to 100 vol% and the applied voltage from 10 to 150 V, where large diameter (approximately 600 nm) and fast growth rate (approximately 100 microm h(-1)) have been successfully realized for the self-organized TiO(2) nanotube arrays. The achievement benefits from the clear understanding of the effects of both the water content and the anodization voltage on the formation of TiO(2) nanotube arrays. We have further shown crystalline formation of TiO(2) nanotubes by simple thermal annealing. The mechanisms of the effect of the water content on the diameter and growth rate revealed here should establish a basis for further optimization of the TiO(2) nanotube geometries.

Abstract:Fabrication of TiO2 nanotube arrays (TNAs) with through-hole morphology is practical significance to enhance the photocatalytic activity of TNAs, as well as expanding their applications. In present work, open-ended TNAs are synthesized on a conductive Au layer by anodizing a thermally evaporated Ti/Au bilayer film. In the anodizing process, the upper Ti layer is transformed into well-aligned TNAs. The barrier layer under the growing TNAs ultimately touches the Au layer and is completely dissolved by the electrochemical etching. In order to avoid the bubble disruption of TNAs caused by the water electrolysis after the Au layer is exposed to the electrolyte, a specific non-aqueous electrolyte is used. The XRD results reveal that the as-formed open-ended TNAs are amorphous and can be transformed into anatase by annealing at 350 °C. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract:TiO2 nanotubes were prepared by anodic oxidation method using HF electrolyte solution and NH4F electrolyte solution on the titanium foil substrate. The morphology and crystal structures of the nanotube arrays were characterized. The structures of TiO2 nanotube arrays prepared by HF acid aqueous solution are not clear and regular. However, TiO2 nanotube arrays prepared by NH4F / organic ethylene glycol electrolyte are more orderly and clear. By controlling the composition of the electrolyte, anodic oxidation voltage and anodization time parameters, TiO2 nanotube arrays with a highly ordered and controllable process were obtained on the Ti foil substrate.

Abstract:Highly-ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays were successfully fabricated by electrochemical anodization of titanium. The morphology of TiO2 nanotube arrays, the length and pore size were represented by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The parameters of various anodization including F- concentration, reaction temperature and anodization voltage were investigated in detail. The results show that as-prepared TiO2 nanotube arrays possess good uniformity and well-aligned morphology in mixture of ethylene glycol and 0.3 wt% NH4F electrolyte at 40 V for 25 °C. The growth rates of TiO2 nanotube arrays can show activation energy.

Abstract:A facile and green method was employed to prepare large-scale free-standing TiO(2) nanotube (TNT) arrays, in which as-anodized TiO(2) nanotube films prepared in organic electrolytes with thickness ranging from seven to tens of micrometers were then ultrasonicated in a mix solution of ethanol and water. By controlling the ratio of ethanol to water, the time and the power of ultrasonication, large-scale free-standing TiO(2) nanotube arrays without any crack could be detached from the Ti substrates. Hydrogen sensing results demonstrated that the free-standing TNT film is more sensitive than a film with Ti substrates when exposed to 1000 ppm hydrogen ambient.

Abstract:This Article focuses on the fabrication of highly ordered nanotubes and some novel nanostructures of titania (TiO2) with a two-step anodization method. The first-step anodization was actually a pretreatment of the Ti foil surface and provided well-ordered imprints that served as a template for the further growth of nanotubes. As a result, the TiO2 nanotubes growing in the second-step anodization appreciably outperformed those fabricated with the conventional one-step Ti anodization in terms of size uniformity and arrangement orderliness. The parameters of the anodization were then modulated to obtain more complex structures. When the voltage in the second-step anodization was lower than that in the first-step anodization, a lotus root-shaped TiO2 nanostructure, in which each imprint contained several smaller nanopores, was achieved. When the second anodization was further divided into two stages, double-layered nanotube arrays were synthesized. They contained two distinctly separated parts, i.e., the bamboo-shaped upper one and the smooth-walled lower one. These results have demonstrated the effectiveness and controllability of the two-step anodization method in producing high-quality TiO2 nanotubes, which are believed to have potential applications in such fields as solar cells, photonic crystals, and hydrogen storage.

Abstract:Self-organized TiO2 nanotube arrays were fabricated by a one-step electrochemical anodization process on a Ti sheet.The prepared samples were annealed in air and detected by SEM,XPS and UV-vis DRS spectrophotometry.And the possible formation mechanism was presented.The results show that the well ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays with the average tube diameter of 150 nm and the average tube length of 400 nm were fabricated under optimized electrolyte and oxidation conditions.The TiO2 nanotubes exhibit strong absorption in visible-light region of 400-700 nm.The fluorine with an molar fraction of 0.35% is doped into TiO2 nanotubes,as evidenced by XPS.The removal efficiency of AO7 by the F-TiO2 nanotube arrays annealed at 673 K reaches 37.2 % under visible light irradiation.

Abstract:TiO 2 nanotube arrays have aroused great interest because of their enormous application in areas such as gas sensor, catalysts, biological materials, and solar cells. In this report, TiO 2 nanowires/nanobelts originating from TiO2 nanotube arrays are fabricated by simple anodization of Ti foils in ethylene glycol (EG) containing 0.25wt% NH 4 F. From the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) it is observed that the morphology of the special structure is influenced by anodization voltage, water content and anodization time. In these factors, small amount of water plays a very important role in making the special nanostructure. Moreover, a possible mechanism that showed a relationship between the formation of the special structure and electric field directed chemical etch is proposed.

Abstract:Self-organized nanotube arrays were prepared by a facile two-electrode electrochemical anodization on pure Ti in a 0.5wt% NH4F aqueous electrolyte. The surface morphology, structure, optical and photoelectrochemical behaviors of the nanotubular films were considered. The as-formed nanotubes are highly ordered with similar to 700nm in length and the average tube diameter is about 90nm. By annealing the initially amorphous films at different temperatures, the importance of the crystalline nature is confirmed. The photoelectrochemical properties are investigated and the highest photocurrent of 2.297 mA/cm(2) is obtained under AM1.5 100 mW/cm(2) illumination at 0.6 V (vs Ag/AgCl).
