Abstract:In order to receive and process the open loop signal from fiber optic gyroscopes speedily, stably and expediently, and to realize the amity interface between human and machine, a digital system that can convert GPIB (general purpose interface bus) parallel bus into Universal Serial Bus is developed. All the interface functions of GPIB and the hardware system are realized through FPGA. With a digital sampling and processing system designed with VC++ in Windows platform, the real-time controlling procedure, high-speed receiving and sending data can be carried out, and the results can be displayed too. So the design of the system is flexible, the reliability and the stability are improved, error rate is no more than 10 −11 , the highest bit rate is 8 MB/s and the open loop detection system for optic fiber gyros achieves standardization and complete digitalization simultaneously.

Abstract:This paper introduces the evaluation system of open loop signal of fiber optic gyroscope.We give the signal got from gyroscope by Lock_-in Amplifier to PC,design friend interface between human and PC,and evaluate the capability of FOG by bias,bias stability,scale factor and so on.PC and SR830 adopt USB and GPIB interface,thus we can control the real time course by the digital sampling and processing system designed by VC++ on windows,high speed receiving and sending data and display the result by picture and words.Then we increase the stability of system,and reduce the error rate,and the standardization of detection system is realized.

Abstract:A digital evaluation system that receives and processes optic fiber gyroscope signal is developed. It evaluates performances of optic fiber gyroscope through calculating zero drift, zero deviation repeatability and scale factor, etc. With a digital sampling and processing system designed by VC++, the real time controlling procedure, high-speed receiving and sending data can be carried out under Windows platform, and the results can be displayed by graphics and words visualization. The transmission error is reduced through introduction of frame structure, thus the reliability of the system will be improved and error rate will be reduced simultaneously.

Abstract:A fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) has already been selected to fulfill the inertial navigation system(INS) function of the new airspace. We have completed the development of intermediate grade closed-loop mode FOG(0.2 to 0.4 degree/h, 1 sigma, 500ppm, 1 sigma )satisfying environment requirement with 500 meter mono-mode fiber, which is controlled exclusively by a high-speed Digital Signal Processor(DSP). The control and compensation algorithms are implemented in software and carried out by a single high speed DSP. The processor also takes care of the communication protocol via a parallel bus.

Abstract:The measurement of rotation is of considerable interest in a number of areas. It is not only used in aircraft but also in new application fields such as automobile navigation, antenna/camera stabilizer, crane control, unmanned vehicle control. The FOG with scanning phase-shift based on anti-noise filter circuit and improved DSP-software algorithm, and the FOG using scanning phase-shift modulation are presented in the paper. The results of experiment show that the proposed FOG is insensitive to interference intensity and changes of light contrast, the stability of FOG is improved greatly

Abstract:The bandwidth of the fiber optic gyroscope is an important indicator of its frequency characteristics. When the environmental conditions is under high dynamic such as vibration and sharp turns, the measurement accuracy of fiber optic gyroscope is greatly affected due to the limitation of the frequency characteristics of fiber optic gyroscopes. And the traditional bandwidth measurement method is to record the angular vibration's amplitude and frequency of the turntable and the output of fiber optic gyroscope, and then use the least squares method to obtain the bandwidth of fiber optic gyroscope. However, the output frequency of the turntable's circular grating encoder is not high enough, usually less than 100Hz, which cannot reflect the more comprehensive dynamic performance of the fiber optic gyroscope. And the manual operation test is always cumbersome. All of these limits the further research on the dynamic performance of fiber optic gyroscope. Therefore, this paper proposes a fiber optic gyroscope bandwidth evaluation method based on laser Doppler measurement technology. Then, an adaptive modal decomposition algorithm is proposed, which can adaptively decompose complex nonlinear and non-stationary signals into multiple frequency components. Our system can realize high-frequency, high-precision and non-contact, which is of great significance to the research of the dynamic performance of the fiber optic gyroscope.

Abstract:A portable and high-precision magnetic testing system for optical fiber gyroes with low power consumption is designed and introduced. The magnetic sensitive detector contains a temperature sensor and six hyper sensitized Hall elements that are inlaid into six surfaces of a cube. The Hall elements and temperature sensor turns the magnetic intensity into electrical voltage. After signal conditioning, the analog value is transmitted into digital signal by high-precision analog-digital converter. After demarcated and temperature compensated in FPGA, the transmitted signal will be displayed on the LCD instantly and sent to PC by USB. Via the designed system, a precise survey of magnitude and direction of the magnetic field can be more effectively done. Moreover, direction of the detector can be freely deposited without adjustment.

Abstract:In high-precision fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) system, the spike noise of DC-DC power source can lead to a considerable disturbance to the signal processing circuit of FOG, which results in a sampling error. In this work, the cause of spike noise and the influence mechanism were clarified. The slew rate control technology was researched and proved to be an effective solution to prevent spike noise of FOG power source. Using slew rate control technology, a kind of low-noise power module has been developed and applied successfully in the FOG system. This power module consists of DC-DC circuit and LDO circuit, and slew rate control circuit was used in the DC-DC circuit to realize low-noise performance. The peak-to-peak noise value of the developed power module was tested to be about 1 mV in a bandwidth of 200 MHz. Two typical FOG systems were tested with the use of this low-noise power source, and their output noise improvement were 3.1％ and 4.4％.

Abstract:Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) is a new kind of inertial sensor. It has many theoretic advantages over traditional gyros and other optic gyros. This paper presents an all-digital close-loop operation based on DSP circuits, which uses the two-frequency serrodyne modulation to modulate and demodulate the optic route. Considering the white noise mixed in optical signal and the quantization noise from limited bits of A/D, we propose to over-sample the raw signal with the rate of sample which is much higher than its bandwidth. Combined with digital signal processing followed, the detection using A/D with lower bits has nearly the same results as that using A/D with higher bits. The resolution of digital modulation limits the precision of the whole system. Using the average method applied to the D/A,a large dynamic range of modulation can be obtained with lower bits. By the experiment based on the designed digital system, a demodulation curve resembling theoretic simulation is obtained, and the feasibility of this scheme of digital close-loop is proved.

Abstract:We propose and realize a new open-loop fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) with an all-digital signal-processing (DSP) system where an all-digital phase-locked loop is employed for digital demodulation to eliminate the variation of the source intensity and suppress the bias drift. A Sagnac phase-shift tracking method is proposed to enlarge the dynamic range, and, with its aid, a new open-loop FOG, which can achieve a large dynamic range and high sensitivity at the same time, is realized. The experimental results show that compared with the conventional open-loop FOG with the same fiber coil and optical devices, the proposed FOG reduces the bias instability from 0.259 to 0.018 deg/h, and the angle random walk from 0.031 to 0.006 deg/h(1/2), moreover, enlarges the dynamic range to ±360 deg/s, exceeding the maximum dynamic range ±63 deg/s of the conventional open-loop FOG.

Abstract:A closed-loop digital detection system in resonant fiber gyro by two frequencies modulation based on DSP chip is proposed. In this system, the sinusoidal signal of its fundamental frequency is extracted from the output light intensity signal of the detector by use of band-pass filter. The noise is eliminated by using correlative detection principle. The DC component, proportional to the light intensity of detector output, is extracted by low-pass filter and converted into corresponding resonant frequency difference, and then the angle rotating speed of the gyroscope can be calculated based on such frequency difference. The detection circuit of this system is simple and the operation is convenient. The processing speed of this system has been greatly improved due to application of. DSP chip. Moreover, the optimization design for the filter parameters of the detection system is realized by Matlab software, thus improving the detection accuracy of the system.

Abstract:Resonator fiber optic gyroscope has the potential to achieve the inertial navigation system requirement with a short sensing coil. An all digitalized system is constructed including the signal modulation/demodulation and a proportional integral (PI) controller in a single field programmable gate array. Under this scheme, the serrodyne phase modulation technique is adopted, which is of benefit to overcome the backscattering induced noise and easy to implement in closed-loop operation. The phase modulation index is optimized to achieve high carrier suppression. The PI controller is adopted in the frequency servo loop to eliminate the residual error at the lock-in frequency. A bias stability of 5.2×10-4 rad/s in 500 seconds is demonstrated experimentally.

Abstract:A resonator fiber-optic gyro (R-FOG) is a high accuracy inertial rotation sensor based on the Sagnac effect. We construct an open-loop operation R-FOG based on the digital triangle wave phase modulation technique, which is free of pulse noise induced by phase reset and also advantageous of reducing the backscattering noise. Experimental results show that the dynamic range and the bias drift of the R-FOG are 3.37 and 0.012 rad/s over 5 s, respectively.

Abstract:A resonator fiber optic gyro is an inertial rotation sensor whose rotation rate can be obtained by measuring the difference of resonant frequency between the lightwaves propagating clockwise and counterclockwise. As the analogue modulation (can't) achieve high performance, a digital modulation is proposed, in which the digital serrodyne signal with two frequencies is used to control the LiNbO_(3) modulator. Performance of this system is analyzed theoretically, and the simulating results are given which shows that the proposed technique is feasible.

Abstract:The resonant fiber optic gyro (RFOG) is a high accuracy inertial rotation sensor based on the Sagnac effect. The existence of various noises, including the nonreciprocal noises such as the polarization noise and the Kerr noise as well as the reciprocal circuit noise, limits the performance improvement of the RFOG. An improved scheme by inserting two in-line polarizers in the polarization maintaining fiber transmission-type resonator has been proposed to suppress the polarization-fluctuation induced drift. Furthermore, the adoption of the air-core photonic bandgap fibers (PBFs) offers a novel solution to reduce the optical Kerr effect. In addition, A digital signal processor is designed to reduce the reciprocal noises and detect the rotation information. A minimum actual rotation of 0.001°/s is achieved. The dynamic range is improved by a factor of 7 and the scale factor nonlinearity is decreased by a factor of 60.
