Abstract:This paper introduces the evaluation system of open loop signal of fiber optic gyroscope.We give the signal got from gyroscope by Lock_-in Amplifier to PC,design friend interface between human and PC,and evaluate the capability of FOG by bias,bias stability,scale factor and so on.PC and SR830 adopt USB and GPIB interface,thus we can control the real time course by the digital sampling and processing system designed by VC++ on windows,high speed receiving and sending data and display the result by picture and words.Then we increase the stability of system,and reduce the error rate,and the standardization of detection system is realized.

Abstract:With consideration on application, it is presented typical closed-loop and open-loop FOG signal processing scheme used for different application and fulfilled different requirements. Both advantages and disadvantages of each scheme are compared. Fiber optic gyroscope is one of the most prominent components utilized in intertial navigation system in recent years. The signal-processing scheme is the key factor for the improvement of its performances.

Abstract:The measurement of rotation is of considerable interest in a number of areas. It is not only used in aircraft but also in new application fields such as automobile navigation, antenna/camera stabilizer, crane control, unmanned vehicle control. The FOG with scanning phase-shift based on anti-noise filter circuit and improved DSP-software algorithm, and the FOG using scanning phase-shift modulation are presented in the paper. Abstract:A fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) has already been selected to fulfill the inertial navigation system(INS) function of the new airspace. We have completed the development of intermediate grade closed-loop mode FOG(0.2 to 0.4 degree/h, 1 sigma, 500ppm, 1 sigma )satisfying environment requirement with 500 meter mono-mode fiber, which is controlled exclusively by a high-speed Digital Signal Processor(DSP). The control and compensation algorithms are implemented in software and carried out by a single high speed DSP. The processor also takes care of the communication protocol via a parallel bus.

Abstract:In order to receive and process the open loop signal from fiber optic gyroscopes speedily, stably and expediently, and to realize the amity interface between human and machine, a digital system that can convert GPIB (general purpose interface bus) parallel bus into Universal Serial Bus is developed. All the interface functions of GPIB and the hardware system are realized through FPGA. With a digital sampling and processing system designed with VC++ in Windows platform, the real-time controlling procedure, high-speed receiving and sending data can be carried out, and the results can be displayed too. So the design of the system is flexible, the reliability and the stability are improved, error rate is no more than 10 −11 , the highest bit rate is 8 MB/s and the open loop detection system for optic fiber gyros achieves standardization and complete digitalization simultaneously.

Abstract:A portable and high-precision magnetic testing system for optical fiber gyroes with low power consumption is designed and introduced. The magnetic sensitive detector contains a temperature sensor and six hyper sensitized Hall elements that are inlaid into six surfaces of a cube. The Hall elements and temperature sensor turns the magnetic intensity into electrical voltage. After signal conditioning, the analog value is transmitted into digital signal by high-precision analog-digital converter. After demarcated and temperature compensated in FPGA, the transmitted signal will be displayed on the LCD instantly and sent to PC by USB. Via the designed system, a precise survey of magnitude and direction of the magnetic field can be more effectively done. Moreover, direction of the detector can be freely deposited without adjustment.

Abstract:Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) is a new kind of inertial sensor. It has many theoretic advantages over traditional gyros and other optic gyros. This paper presents an all-digital close-loop operation based on DSP circuits, which uses the two-frequency serrodyne modulation to modulate and demodulate the optic route. Considering the white noise mixed in optical signal and the quantization noise from limited bits of A/D, we propose to over-sample the raw signal with the rate of sample which is much higher than its bandwidth. Combined with digital signal processing followed, the detection using A/D with lower bits has nearly the same results as that using A/D with higher bits. The resolution of digital modulation limits the precision of the whole system. Using the average method applied to the D/A,a large dynamic range of modulation can be obtained with lower bits. By the experiment based on the designed digital system, a demodulation curve resembling theoretic simulation is obtained, and the feasibility of this scheme of digital close-loop is proved.

Abstract:A closed-loop digital detection system in resonant fiber gyro by two frequencies modulation based on DSP chip is proposed. In this system, the sinusoidal signal of its fundamental frequency is extracted from the output light intensity signal of the detector by use of band-pass filter. The noise is eliminated by using correlative detection principle. The DC component, proportional to the light intensity of detector output, is extracted by low-pass filter and converted into corresponding resonant frequency difference, and then the angle rotating speed of the gyroscope can be calculated based on such frequency difference. The detection circuit of this system is simple and the operation is convenient. The processing speed of this system has been greatly improved due to application of. DSP chip. Moreover, the optimization design for the filter parameters of the detection system is realized by Matlab software, thus improving the detection accuracy of the system.

Abstract:Resonator fiber optic gyro(RFOG)is a late-model optical sensor to measure rotation velocity,of which resonant frequency is changed through the Sagnac effect.Compared with the traditional analogue circuit,the detection system based on a digital circuit has advantages of high stability,strong anti-interference ability and swift signal processing,small size and easy integration.A digital RFOG based on FPGA is set up.The resonant frequency servo loop based on the proportion integration controller and the automatic compensation circuits for voltage drift of the phase modulator,as well as the second closed-loop are all realized with a single FPGA.Applying the digital detection circuit with the closed-loop operation to the RFOG system,the functions of the FPGA are verified experimentally.On this basis,the gyro rotation signal is observed successfully.

Abstract:Based on the digital bipolar serrodyne and sine phase modulations, a closed-loop RFOG with two LiNbO3 phase modulators is proposed and studied. Through theoretical simulation, the bipolar serrodyne waveform is optimized to improve the detection sensitivity. By the characteristic analysis of the practical serrodyne phase modulation spectrum, the sine modulation frequency is optimized to reduce the two loops’ spectrum overlapping, which would lead to the backscatter noise. The optimization result is verified by the gyro output signal tests under the different sine phase modulation frequencies. It is concluded that in order to avoid the spectrum overlapping, the difference between the sine modulation frequency and serrodyne modulation reset frequency should be properly increased, and the sine modulation frequency is required to be close to an even multiple of the serrodyne modulation repetition frequency. Finally, using the optimized phase modulation parameters, the gyro output signal is tested with an integration time of 0.1 s over 1 h, and the bias stability around 7.1 deg/h based on the Allan deviation analysis is obtained.

Abstract:The detection theory of resonator fiber optic gyro(R-FOG) based on the serrodyne modulation with two frequencies was introduced,and the correlative detection theory in digital system was analyzed.According to the characteristics of the detection signal in the gyro system,and using the synchronous square wave produced in the field programmable gate array(FPGA),a digital lock-in amplifier used in R-FOG was designed and its signal noise ratio(SNR) was analyzed.Applying the lock-in amplifier to the gyro system,the resonance frequency was locked quickly and stably.Experimental results indicated that the lock-in amplifier satisfied the precision needed in the closed-loop feedback and the locking time was 1.1 ms.

Abstract:A detection system in the resonator fiber-optic gyro is set up by the phase modulation (PM) spectroscopy technique. The slope of the demodulated curve near the resonant point is found to affect the ultimate sensitivity of the gyro. To maximize the demodulated signal slope, the modulation frequency and index are optimized by the expansion of the Bessel function and optical field overlapping method. Using different PM frequencies for the light waves, the open-loop gyro output signal is observed. The modulation frequency in this PM technique is limited only by the cutoff frequency of the LiNbO3 phase modulators, which can reach several gigahertz. This detection technique and system can be applied to the resonator micro-optic gyro with a less than 10 cm long integrated optical ring.

Abstract:New developments are made in the resonant fiber optic gyro (RFOG), which is an optical sensor for the measurement of rotation rate. The digital signal processing system based on the phase modulation technique is capable of detecting the weak frequency difference induced by the Sagnac effect and suppressing the reciprocal noise in the circuit, which determines the detection sensitivity of the RFOG. A new technique based on the sinusoidal wave modulation and square wave demodulation is implemented, and the demodulation curve of the system is simulated and measured. Compared with the past technique using sinusoidal modulation and demodulation, it increases the slope of the demodulation curve by a factor of 1.56, improves the spectrum efficiency of the modulated signal, and reduces the occupancy of the field-programmable gate array resource. On the basis of this new phase modulation technique, the loop is successfully locked and achieves a short-term bias stability of 1.08°/h, which is improved by a factor of 1.47.

Abstract:The resonant fiber optic gyro (RFOG) based on reciprocal modulation-demodulation technique is introduced and the influence of high modulation frequency on resonance and demodulation output is analyzed. The expression of backscattering output in resonant cavity is deduced and the experimental device is built to measure the backscattering coefficient. The demodulation model considering backscattering noise is established under reciprocal sinusoidal modulation, and the optimal modulation parameters are obtained by simulation. Finally, the RFOG system is set up. The results show that the detection sensitivity is improved by 19% with the optimal modulation parameters and the system bias stability improves from 0.067°/s to 0.023°/s.

Abstract:A digital detection technique based on the coordinate rotation digital computer (CORDIC) algorithm is proposed for a resonator fiber optic gyroscope (R-FOG). It makes the generation of modulation signal, synchronous demodulation and signal processing in R-FOG to be realized in a single field programmable gate array (FPGA). The frequency synthesis and synchronous detection techniques based on the CORDIC algorithm have been analyzed and designed firstly. The experimental results indicate that the precision of the detection circuit satisfies the requirements for the closed-loop feedback in R-FOG system. The frequency of the laser is locked to the resonance frequency of the fiber ring resonator stably and the open-loop gyro output signal is observed successfully. The dynamic range and the bias drift of the R-FOG are ±1.91 rad/s and 0.005 rad/s over 10 s, respectively.

Abstract:Resonator fiber optic gyro (R-FOG) is an inertial rotation sensor with high accuracy which is based on the Sagnac effect. The signal detection system has important role in the R-FOG. The detecting precision influences the maximum resolution of the gyro directly. The fiber ring resonator is the core-sensing element in the R-FOG. This paper presents the scheme to detect the resonance point using two-frequency serrodyne modulation, and uses the Lorentzian function to describe the expression of the output power at the exit port of the fiber ring resonator taking the temporal coherence of the laser into account. According to near linear relationship between amplitude of the square waveform and the resonant frequency deviation near the resonant point, frequency feedback time after time is used for frequency tracking for both clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) waves. Therefore, complex root finding process can be avoided. Simulation shows that both CW and CCW waves can be locked at the resonance frequency of the resonator quickly by frequency feedback operation.

Abstract:Resonator fiber optic gyro(R-FOG) is a novel optical sensor whose resonant frequency is changed due to the Sagnac effect.The digital closed-loop operation can eliminate the thermal drift in analog circuits and it will make the R-FOG system more flexible.Taking the resonant frequency deviation as the research object,a simple analytical model for the closed-loop locking technique is presented based on one-order inertial loop operation.Frequency locking technique in the digital closed-loop operation system is then studied.The optimum loop gain is achieved under a certain integral time constant.Using above optimum parameters,the loop is locked quickly and stably.Furthermore,the analysis is verified by experiments.

Abstract:To widen the linear dynamic range and improve the linearity, a closed-loop resonant fiber optic gyro (RFOG) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. To overcome the effect of the imperfect serrodyne modulation, an improved frequency shifting module is designed and constructed on a LiNbO3 phase modulator. Its frequency resolution is improved to 0.01Hz which is equivalent to a rotation rate of 0.04 degrees/h for an RFOG with a 12-cm diameter fiber ring resonator. With the frequency shifter applied in the RFOG, a closed-loop detection is demonstrated, whose bias stability is around 2 degrees/h, close to that of the open-loop output. Moreover, good linearity and wide dynamic range are also experimentally demonstrated thanks to the closed-loop operation. The measured result shows that the open-loop linear detection range of +/- 215 degrees/s is improved to +/- 1076 degrees/s. It is improved by a factor of 5. The open-loop scale factor nonlinearity of 1.2% is decreased to 0.02% (200ppm), which is improved by a factor of 60. These are the best results reported to date, to the best of our knowledge, for closed-loop RFOGs. (C) 2013 Optical Society of America
