Abstract:In order to illustrate the microstructure and performances change rules of commercial steels after quenching and partitioning (Q&P), experimental investigation was carried out on medium carbon alloy steels, including Chromium-Molybdenum steel (0.37 C-0.21Si-0.56Mn-1.15Cr-0.16Mo, wt%), high-Silicon steel (0.39 C-1.15Si-0.32Mn-1.32Cr-0.20Mo, wt%) and high-Aluminum steel (0.39 C-0.27Si-0.45Mn-1.49Cr-0.20Mo-0.96Al, wt%). The microstructures, residual austenite evolution and mechanical properties were analyzed by metallographic microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), hardness tester and impact tester. The results show that, after Q&P heat treatments, Chromium-Molybdenum steel with less Si and Al elements presents an obvious characteristic of tempered martensite, while high-Silicon and high-Aluminum steels with more Si or Al contain more residual austenite. And the maximum residual austenite fraction of high-Silicon steel can reach up to 20 vol%. For the same kind of steel, the hardness decreases with the decrease of martensite content and the increase of RA content, but the impact toughness of Q&P treatment samples is better than that subjected to traditional quenching and tempering treatment.
