Abstract:Underwater explosion can produce extremely high shock acceleration to cause severe human injuries. Under the vertical shock acceleration from bottom to upward,the crews standing on decks of a ship receive extreme high shock load,their calcaneuses and ankle joints may be injured heavily.The new developed anti-shock tiles can absorb shock energy and degrade shock load with their rubber material.Here,a new double-half sine wave shock machine was used to simulate 3 typical shock intensities,and a Hybrid Ⅲ dummy was used as a test body to replace a person,the shock responses of the main positions of the dummy were recorded with sensors inside the dummy.The test results showed that the tiles can attenuate shock load by 60% at least,they can reduce ship shock injury greatly.

Abstract:Non-contact explosion can seriously threaten the crew’s safety on ships.In this paper,impact tests in different directions and levels were conducted for an anti-impact ship chair,and its cushioning property was inspected quantitatively.A finite element model for this chair was established,and its impact response was simulated using coupling calculation.Some suggestions to improve the mechanical design of the chair were proposed.

Abstract:Based on the analysis of the hyperelastic characteristics of the honeycomb structure of ground tiles for anti-shock protection of warship’s personnel,the single cell model for periodic cellular structure was established,and its deformation behavior in dynamic compression and shock conditions was studied.Simulation results show that the anti-shock ground tiles have enough strength and rigidity to bear the load from personnel’s activities of the warship,while they can be crushed rapidly under shock load so as to absorb large amount of shock energy due to their preferable strain plateau phase.

Abstract:The types of shock impulse of ship shafting systems were introduced.Shock dynamic model of a ship shafting system was built with finite element method,and a software(SHAFTFE) for ship shafting system dynamics and shock response simulation was developed with MATLAB.Dynamic characteristics of a ship power shafting system including propulsion shafting,propulsion electric motor and its vibration isolator were analyzed using SHAFTFE with different shock forces and parameters,and effects of the structural design parameters of the ship shafting system on the shock response were analyzed.The results showed that the ship power shafting system has a larger displacement under the action of the base shock,so more attention must be paid to the shock character of ship power shafting systems during design in order to increase reliability and survival performance of a whole ship.

Abstract:How to protect shipboard personnel from the shock events induced by underwater explosion is a very interesting subject for ship designers. In this study, the potential attenuation performance of an elastic polymer foam cushion inserted between standing-man and ship deck is investigated theoretically. An 8-degree-of-freedom nonlinear lumped-parameter model is applied to predict the standing-man's biodynamic responses and injury potential. The cushion is modeled by a chain of masses separated by nonlinear springs and dampers in parallel to simulate the micro inertia, stiffness and rate-dependent effects exhibited by common polymer cellular materials. Two variables, kickoff speed ratio and deck reaction force ratio corresponding to two types of typical injury potential of standing-men, are defined as evaluation parameters. The influence of critical buckling force level, material rate dependent effect as well as some other design factors on the attenuation performance of the foam cushion is discussed in detail. Some general design rules are also presented.

Abstract:The simulation effect of the pendulum hammer shock response spectra testing equipment has been studied with finite element method. Several shock response spectra testing criterions have been simulated and the result shows that the pendulum hammer shock testing equipment can well simulate the pyroshock environment. By analyzing the result of the simulation,the relationship between the testing parameter and the shock response spectra has been revealed.

Abstract:The dynamic design calculation method DDAM and time domain simulating method were introduced.In accordance with the structure characteristics of the ship power package parts,these two methods were adopted respectively in frequency-domain as well as time-domain to analyze their shock resistance.The result indicates that the responses of different devices are related with the structure characteristics and the shock load direction.With regard to the main turboset and the main reducing gear device,because of the connecting relation between the parts,the dynamic response of the bolt,dowel and the connecting structure of them is more influential.

Abstract:In the paper,the theory of the stress wave propagation in body was studied by theoretical analysis and computer simulation when a projectile penetrating armor plate with high velocity.The failure mechanism of onboard testing equipment in high shock was researched and the cushioning theory,buffer structure and material were discussed,and in this paper the conclusions were adopted,the anti-shock butter design was considered in on-board testing equipment.The experiment of projectile penetrating armor plate was performed.The result shows that the circuit module is effectively protected by buffer structure made from foamed aluminum with different density and pore-diameter,and the equipment's survival ability in shock environment is enhanced and the ratio of obtaining datum have been improved.
Experimental Study on Sound Transmission Loss in the Anti-shock Layer of a Ship

Abstract:A new concept of ship anti-shock layer based on the impedance mismatch theory is developed by Naval Academy of Armament and Shanghai Jiao Tong University together.The underwater non-contact explosion loads can be isolated by the ship anti-shock layer very well.But the sound isolation performance caused by rubber material and the special cavity structure of the ship anti-shock layer was also concerned.The comparison experimental for sound radiation noise between a ship covered with and without the anti-shock layer was carried out in a harbor of a sea area.Testing results was showed that the anti-shock layer has very good sound isolation performance at wide-ranging frequency.Ship radiated noise can be reduced greatly when ship hulls covered with the anti-shock layer.About 5 dB can be depressed by the anti-shock layer at 0.1～1 kHz frequency band,about 10 dB at 1～3 kHz frequency band and about 15 dB above 3 kHz frequency band.The anti-shock layer will be a new technique and method to enhance ship stealthy ability.

Abstract:The passenger protection performance of seat belts in special-purpose vehicles subjected to vertical shocks has rarely been studied.This paper describes numerical simulations of the vertical shock response of seat-passenger systems equipped with 5 different types of safety belts.Anchoring systems of 5 or 6 anchor-point belts are optimized to improve the protection;under strong performance vertical shocks,and the influences of the anchoring configuration changes for the two types of safety belts also numerically analyzed for frontal and lateral collisions.The results show the remarkable influence of the configuration of multi-anchor-point safety belts on the passenger protection performance and the optimized anchoring systems of safety belts significantly improve the passenger's vertical shock protection.The study gives a comprehensive optimal design method for safety belt systems of special-purpose vehicles.
Numerical Modeling of Dual-Pulse Shock Test Machine for Simulating Underwater Explosion Shock Loads on Warship Equipments

Abstract:In order to qualify shock resistance performance of shipboard equipments and simulate real underwater explosion environment, a novel dual-pulse shock test machine is proposed. The new machine will increase testing capability and meet special shock testing requirement. Two key parts of the machine, the velocity generator and the shock pulse regulator, play an important role in producing the positive acceleration pulse and the succeeding negative acceleration pulse, respectively. The generated dual-pulse shock for test articles is in conformity with an anti-shock test specification. Based on the impact theory, a nonlinear dynamic model of the hydraulically-actuated test machine is established with thorough analysis on its mechanism that involves conversion of gas potential energy and dissipation of kinetic energy. Simulation results have demonstrated that the proposed machine is able to produce a double-pulse acceleration shock in the time domain or a desired shock response spectrum in the frequency domain, which sets up a base for the construction of the machine.

Abstract:Underwater shock can produce very high accelerations, resulting in severe human injuries. In this paper, a shock–structure–human interaction model is proposed to study the biodynamic response of a shipboard sitting subject to ship motion induced by underwater shock (ship shock motion) wherein, the human body is modeled using a lumped parameter system with the parameters obtained from dynamic tensile tests. The results obtained from the human model used in this paper and living human drop test are also compared. Numerical results have revealed the characteristics of human response to ship shock motion. The part in direct contact with the structure (like the pelvis) is much more vulnerable than other parts (like the head). The influences of structural damping and stiffness on the peak loads acting on the human body are investigated. Both damping and stiffness have important influences on the pelvis, but have much less influences on other parts. Injury criteria in the literature are also summarized to facilitate injury assessment.

Abstract:In order to improve the underwater explosion impact resistant performance of ships, a hyper-elastic anti-shock layer is adhered to the ship’s wet surface. Structure parameters and blast-resistant characteristics of the anti-shock lay-er are investigated, and the optimal design region of the anti-shock layer under different impact loads is discussed. The opti-mal design method of three parameters, such as topology structure, stress platform and structure density, is proposed. The dy-namic response of the hull structure with anti-shock layer subjected to far-field underwater explosion is studied. And then, the effect of the optimization design of the anti-shock layer is evaluated and confirmed by simulation results.
Research on anti-shockwave performance of the protective equipment for the head of a soldier based on shock tube evaluation

Abstract:In order to optimize the structure and improve the performance of the head and face protective equipment for an individual soldier, firstly, the blast wave resistance tests of the bare-head model were carried out in real explosion field and shock tube environments, respectively. On this basis, the forward and lateral blast shockwave protective performance tests for helmet-head systems with different structures and protection levels were carried out by using the shock tube method. Finally, the peak values and durations of shockwave overpressure in the front, forehead, top, back, ear and eye areas of the helmet-head systems were compared and analyzed. The experimental results show that the blast shockwave test using a shock tube can be a substitute for the real explosion field test. When subjected to the effect of frontal shock wave, the peak value of the shockwave overpressure measured at the top measuring point of the two-half-helmet head model is about 1/6 compared with that of the nozzle outlet and 1/3 of the bare-head model as well as the integrated-helmet head model. The shockwave splits and relieves pressure at the split structure on the top of the two-half helmets and forms a superimposed reflection, resulting in a prolonged action time (5.5−8.5 ms), but a significantly decreased peak overpressure. For the rear measuring points, the peak overpressure (365 kPa) of shockwave measured by the integrated-helmet head model is slightly higher than that (303 kPa) measured by the two-half-helmet head model, and about 2.5 times as high as that (148 kPa) measured by the bare head model. By improving the structural airtightness of individual head and face protective equipments (such as wearing glasses, earmuffs or protective masks), shockwaves can be effectively prevented from entering the helmet-head systems, the stacking convergence effect can be weakened, and the protective performance of individual head and face equipments can be improved.

Abstract:There are many contact surfaces in ship's equipments,whose dynamic transmission performance is the key in computation of equipment's response under shock loading.In this article,the dynamic response of equipment with typical contact surfaces under shock loading was researched numerically and experimentally.The dynamic characters of the contact surface and the transmission characters of shock loading in the contact surface were also discussed.The research shows that the stiffness of the contact surface varies non-linearly during the shock process and the distribution of the acceleration is affected by the contact surface.The comparison between the experimental and computation results shows that the numerical method used in this article has engineering accuracy.

Abstract:High-Impact medium-weighted shock machine is one of the standard check-up facilities prescribed in GJB150.18-1986.It is used to mainly assess the anti-shock ability of the ship's equipment whose mass is from 120 kg to 2 700 kg.Based on a large number of shock environment tests for medium-weighted shock machines,the standard check-up conditions for MIL-S-901 machines were worked out in the United States.Our medium-weighted shock machines were designed after American design standard,and the check-up standard was also specified following American standard.But we have not yet known clearly the feature of the shock environment of shock machines,the influencing factors of shock environment and the problems in the current standard in our country.Therefore,aiming at the requirements in the shock environment of shock machines,some suggestions for improvement of the standard for anti-shock check-up of ship's equipments were proposed.

Abstract:Most MEMS/NEMS devices are working on the harsh environment, such as high shock and temperature environment, ranging from aerospace science, automobile industry, mechanical engineering, to medical and safety engineering. The reliability of MEMS/NEMS devices is the most important issue today. MEMS devices must perform their required functions for the duration of the equipment's requirement profile. However, there is a need to implement standardized tests and requirements to ensure the performance of MEMS devices in fielded and emerging military systems. This paper presents the multi-direction high shock environment for MEMS devices, and introduces a dynamic test and shock response spectra (SRS) testing technology. The simulation test of shock environment based equivalent injury theory is studied. A computation program is written in software-Matlab with the modified digital filtering algorithm. The SRS of the shock signal of dispersing is calculated. Also, the simulation of the SRS of dispersing is probed into by using drop test.
