Abstract:Architectural and structural design work of roof system of Yueqing Olympic Center are roughly reviewed in the present paper.The stadium with lunar shape adopts a novel type of spatial cable-frames. System constitution of this stadium is different because of braced radial cables and open-mouth hoop cable. The gymnasium and swimming arena adopt a new latticed-shell-string system with non-vertical compression bars and spatial hoop cables.Structural design of steel works of Yueqing Olympic center is in accordance with mechanical rules and restrictions but not constrained by common concepts.It is a little challengeable in some aspects.The present paper aims at roughly review of some key design techniques of new types of large-span spatial structures.Emphasis is put on the process of architectural design and structural design when they do not coincided with each other at the preliminary design stage.
Exploration on the Planning Method of Improving the Quality of Outdoor Activity Space in Old Residential Areas: Taking the Old Residential Area in the South of Wangma Community in Hangzhou as an Example

Abstract:Under the background that the urban space is changing from "incremental development" to "tapping the potential of stock", the transformation of old urban residential areas is of great significance to promote the improvement of urban quality. As an important part of shaping the public environment in residential areas, the planning and design standards of residential areas only put forward the requirements of area control, and lack the specific criteria of various design elements. Aiming at the typical problems existing in the outdoor activity space of the old residential areas, such as unreasonable layout, lack of total amount, unclear classification and insufficient attraction, a planning and design framework for improving the outdoor activity space quality of the old residential areas are constructed from four dimensions of space layout, space scale and quantity, space hierarchical and function and space attraction, and a total of nine indicators. Quantitative analysis methods such as space syntax and image recognition are introduced. Taking the planning scheme of the old residential area in the south of Wangma community in the central district of Hangzhou as an example, we discuss the rationality of its planning by using the framework, we also analyze the existing problems and put forward optimization suggestions, so as to provide theoretical guidance and planning practice reference for other old residential areas to build high-quality outdoor activity space.

Abstract:In the increasingly warming wave of renovation and reconstruction in old cities,exploring models which can balance various contradictions is the chief problem in the redevelopment of old cities in China.However,there is no general model.Taking Hangzhou Quanye Li as an example,this article explores the methods and processes meeting with the Chinese current situation.Based on the site survey,the project analyzes the development mode,planning method,and architecture designing ideas of the construction and renovation in Quanye Li old residential area from the angles of sociology and typology.Finally,it suggests to exploiting apartments for the elderly and residential districts for both oldsters and youngsters,as well as continuing traditional settlement texture and keeping live traditional spatial sense in the planning and architecture design.

Abstract:Zhongshan Road is the most representative historic district in Hangzhou.In order to further enhance the district protection,revitalize the business,improve the environment,Hangzhou started a comprehensive protection and organic renewal project of Zhongshan Road in 2008,completed in October the next year. In many building strategies,the "water into the street" environment improvement approach in Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street is the highlight for the project.The paper makes a research on the "water into the street" approach from the three aspects of background,features and significance,hoping to summarize the application experience and providing a positive reference for other urban historic district protection and revitalization.

Abstract:With the development of urban construction in China and the improvement of living standards among urban residents, people today have higher requirements for space quality, and the development of urban commercial complexes has also become an important part of urban development. In this process, the functions of urban commercial complexes, in terms of culture, leisure, commerce, tourism, and office work, are gradually compounded. The integration of the commercial complex landscape with the urban environment shapes a place that provides more humanized services to the urban population. The landscape facilities in the commercial complex square are no longer just a foil, but they are constantly improved and optimized for the benefit of the crowd. Beginning from the exterior space of commercial complexes, this study investigates and analyzes the landscape design, and based on the external landscape distribution of Happy Harbor and the environment created by the landscape, this paper expounds the commercial landscape design and development of a more comprehensive and humanized commercial urban complex space landscape.

Abstract:With the rapid social and economic development in recent years,villages and towns in China have undergone great changes,especially those located in the delta of Yangtze River where there has been a drastic economic boom.Many people in the rural villages have had an increasingly higher requirement for better living environment.However,due to a lack of planning guidance,most villages in China now appear to be cluttered and short of the inherent charm of traditional Chinese villages.Based on the project that the author has participated in to design and plan five typical new rural villages in Huzhou District(Zhejiang Province),this article focuses on some major contradictions and the corresponding solutions in the making of new-villages in Changxing and puts forward a new model for constructing villages for rural settlements there.It is hoped that this model will provide a new approach and experience for building new rural villages in China.
