Harmonious with differences:principles of landscape planning and construction of new countryside

Abstract:With the rapid social and economic development in recent years,villages and towns in China have undergone great changes,especially those located in the delta of Yangtze River where there has been a drastic economic boom.Many people in the rural villages have had an increasingly higher requirement for better living environment.However,due to a lack of planning guidance,most villages in China now appear to be cluttered and short of the inherent charm of traditional Chinese villages.Based on the project that the author has participated in to design and plan five typical new rural villages in Huzhou District(Zhejiang Province),this article focuses on some major contradictions and the corresponding solutions in the making of new-villages in Changxing and puts forward a new model for constructing villages for rural settlements there.It is hoped that this model will provide a new approach and experience for building new rural villages in China.
