Comparative analysis on TCM symptoms in different conditions of post stroke cognitive impairment

Abstract:Objective To analyze the differences of symptoms on different conditions of post stroke cognitive impairment,and to explore the etiology and pathogenesis for cognitive decline. Methods Two thousand six hundred and fourteen participants attacked by stroke were selected by multi-center collaborations,who were divided into a group of 1 319 participants without cognitive impairment( Group A) and a cognitive impairment group( Group B) of 1 295 participants. And the Group B was divided into a mild cognitive impairment group( Group BA) of 553 participants and a mild dementia group( Group BB) of 742 participants. TCM symptoms andtongue picture, pulse manifestation were observed and compared through gathering the standardized four methods of diagnosis information. Results Compared with the Group A,the frequency of weak,fatigue, night urination, dreaminess, shortness of breath,gomphiasis,blurred vision,dry eye,expectoration,tired limbs and somatic heaviness,dizziness,numbness,dark purple oral lips,soreness and weakness /pain of waist and knees,gloomy complexion,tinnitus,dark tongue,greasy fur tongue and deep pulse were increased in the Group B( P 0. 05). There was significant difference in symptoms and signs of fatigue,expectoration,tired limbs and somatic heaviness, gomphiasis, dark purple oral lips, dry eye, constipation, blurred vision, shortness of breath, gloomy complexion,red tongue and greasy fur tongue between the Group BA and Group BB( P 0. 05). Conclusion The post stroke cognitive decline is closely related to the loss of primordial qi,yin fluid deficiency of liver and kidney. It is suggested that prophylaxis and treatment for stroke be paying attention to tonifying liver,spleen and kidney with dissipating phlegm for resuscitation,removing blood stasis.
