Abstract:Sonochemical synthesis can be a facile, fast, efficient, versatile and economical way to prepare a large variety of conventional or novel nanostructured materials (metallic, magnetic, semiconducting, polymeric, etc.). In this work, zinc oxide nanocrystals were synthesized by irradiating and heating at 90 °C in a commercial ultrasonic bath a water solution of zinc nitrate hexahydrate and ammonia solution or hexamethylenetetramine as base catalysts. The evolution of the powder morphology and its crystalline structure was investigated at different times of ultrasonic irradiation (0‐9 hours) and compared with samples obtained only by heating the solutions in a muffle furnace in order to enlighten the growth mechanism. It resulted that: i) the crystal morphology depends on the selected base, ii) for samples obtained by using the ultrasounds the homogeneity of the powders depends on the time of irradiation, iii) by comparing all samples obtained at 7 hours of heating, the aspect ratio of the crystals is higher for those which underwent also to ultrasounds.

Abstract:ZnO/SiO_2 nanocomposite materials were prepared by the adsorption phase reaction technique.The effects of synthesis routes,water content of reaction system and NaOH concentration on ZnO/SiO_2 nanocomposite materials were investigated and the transmission electron microscope (TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),complexometric titration and acid-base titration were used to characterize ZnO/SiO_2 nanocomposite materials.It was found that the particle size was effectively controlled by the adsorption phase reaction technique.And the particle size would be influenced not only by kind and concentration of adsorbent,but also by morphology and performance of adsorption layer.When the thickness of adsorption layer increased,the particle size would increase.The formation of the physical adsorption layer and the increase of the adsorbent concentration made the particle size decrease.Compared with preparation of Ag particle,the formation and the growth of Ag particle and ZnO particle were different resulting from the difference of reaction mechanism of preparation of Ag particle and ZnO particle.

Abstract:Monodisperse ZnO nanoparticles were successfully prepared through the decomposition of zinc acetylacetonate precursor in oleylamine. The samples were characterized by transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. The particle size and morphology could be modified through tuning the reaction temperature, reaction period and concentration of zinc acetylacetonate. The grain size of monodisperse ZnO could be obtained at 205 and 300 °C for 1 h with 1:100 molar ratio of acetylacetonate and oleylamine, respectively. The average grain size of ZnO nanoparticles increased and the shape of ZnO particles varied with the reaction period prolonging or reaction temperature increasing. Some ZnO particles had self-aggregated into a belt using a solution of 1:10 molar ratio of zinc acetylacetonate and oleylamine at 250 °C for 1 h. The oleylamine plays an important role in preventing aggregation of ZnO nanoparticles.

Abstract:Abstract PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The effect of NaOH concentration, reaction temperature and time on nucleation and growth of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals was investigated. As the 0.05 mol/L PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 precursors were heated at 200 °C for 21 h with NaOH concentration of 0.5 mol/L, the tetragonal PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals were formed, and the grain size was more than 20 nm. With increasing the NaOH concentration from 0.5 to 1.5 mol/L, the grain size of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals decreased. When the precursors were heated at different temperatures (140 °C to 200 °C) for 21 h with 1.0 mol/L NaOH, single-phase PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals were obtained at 160 °C to 200 °C. With increasing the reaction temperature from 160 °C to 200 °C, the grains size of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals increased from 5 nm to 9 nm. When the precursors were heated at 160 °C in different reaction times from 6 h to 21 h, the evolution from amorphous to crystalline PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals in correlation with the reaction time was observed. Single crystalline PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals with narrow size distribution (from 5 nm to 9 nm) were synthesized by controlling the NaOH concentration, reaction temperature and time. The obtained results can find potential application in preparing PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 thin films on flexible substrates.

Abstract:A simple reduction/oxidation chemical solution approach at room temperature has been developed to synthesize ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals, in which NaBH4 is used as a reducing agent instead of mineralizers such as sodium hydroxide, ammonia, and alcohol. The morphology, structure, and optical property of the ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals have been characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis (DSC-TGA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. It is indicated that the uniform tetragonal ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals with the size below 2 nm have been fabricated at room temperature. The band gap of the ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals is about 4.1 eV, exhibiting 0.5 eV blue shift from that of the bulk SnO2 (3.6 eV). Furthermore, the mechanism for the reduction/oxidation chemical reaction synthesis of the ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals has been preliminary presented. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The monodisperse ZnS nanospheres were synthesized by a solvothermal method. The nanospheres were characterized using XRD, TEM, UV-vis, and photoluminescence spectra. The results demonstrate that ZnS nanospheres are highly crystalline. The strong photoluminescence emission at 450 nm (blue) can be observed in the ZnS nanospheres.

Abstract:A new simple low-temperature hydrothermal process without addition of any surfactant or complexing agent was put forward to synthesize uniform ZnO nanorods, in which hydrazine hydrate instead of NaOH was used as mineralizer. X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy were used to characterize the product, the results of which reveal that uniform ZnO nanorods approximately 70 nm in width and 2 μm in length were formed at 150°C within 8 h. Prior to the hydrothermal process hydrazine hydrate reacted with ZnCl2 solution to form a complex, and the complex slowly decomposed in the hydrothermal process. All these characteristics were favorable to this additive-free hydrothermal synthesis of ZnO nanorods.

Abstract:By means of sonochemical method, Fe3O4 and ZnFe2O4 nanocrystallines can be synthesized from FeC2/urea and ZnCl2/FeCl2/urea in water. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as well as selected area electron diffraction (SAED). Special attention was paid to the microstructure of the nanocrystallines using high-resolution transmision electron microscopy (HREM). Probable mechanisms for the sonochemical formation of Fe3O4 and ZnFe2O4 nanocrystallines are discussed.

Abstract:The core/shell-type ZnO nanosphere/CdS nanorod and ZnO nanosphere/CdS nanoparticle composites have been selectively prepared through a simple ultrasound-assisted solution phase conversion process using monodispersed ZnO nanospheres as a starting reactant and in situ template. The formation mechanism of the products is closely connected with the sonochemical effect of ultrasonic irradiation. The photoluminescence and electrogenerated chemiluminescence properties of the as-prepared core/shell structures were investigated.

Abstract:ZnO nano-crystal powders with hexagonal crystal configuration were successfully synthesized from a molten salt method,and the synthesis condtions were detailedly studied.The novel characters of synthesized ZnO powders were analyzed by means of XRD,TEM,BET and TG,etc.The average crystal sizes of obtained ZnO powders could be efficiently controlled by changing the calcination conditions,such as calcination temperature,calcination time,content of molten salt KNO3.Commonly these obtained ZnO powders own the eminent characters of weak agglomeration,narrow distribution and fine crystalline configuration.When the content of molten salt KNO3 was low enough,amount of nano-rod ZnO could be synthesized efficiently.

Abstract:An efficient, mechanochemical reaction for synthesizing ZnO nanoparticles has been investigated. The starting materials were zinc sulfate heptahydrate and potassium hydroxide, and potassium chloride served as the matrix salt. The reaction was carried out in a paste state at room temperature with a short grinding time and no postreaction calcination. The nanoparticles thus obtained had a mean diameter of 22.1 nm and exhibited excellent UV-blocking properties. A comparison of the costs of raw materials between this and other mechanochemical reactions is presented.

Abstract:In this study, the sol–gel method was used to prepare well-monodispersed ZnS nanopowders with a powder size of approximately 0.5 μ m. The starting materials used were Zn(NO 3 ) 2 · 6H 2 O and C 2 H 5 NS. However, the agglomeration problem of the powders was addressed by adding an appropriate amount of (C 6 H 9 NO)n. The sol–gel method successfully produced submicron-sized ZnS powders. To further reduce the powder particle size, a rapid co-phase precipitation method was employed. This method involved using ZnCl 2 and C 2 H 5 NS, which yielded ZnS nanopowders with a particle size of approximately 50 nm. The key focus of this method was on selecting the precipitating agent and emulsion to control the precipitation of ZnS nanoparticles. Both methods resulted in finer powder particle sizes and higher powder purity compared to commercial ZnS powders. These improvements in the optical and mechanical properties of ZnS IR-transmitting ceramics are significant. Overall, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of using these methods for synthesizing high-quality ZnS nanopowders.

Abstract:Nano-sized ZnO crystals with catalytic, electrical, optoelectronic, and photochemical properties have been considered as an important candidate in both fundamental research and practical studies. However, controllable synthesis of ZnO in morphology and size with a simple method under mild conditions still represents a challenge. We proved that ZnO nanostructures, including particles and nanorods, could be fabricated by a solvothermal route. Precursors of Zn(Ac)2 and LiOH reacted in ethanol at temperatures lower than 150degC. Then zinc oxide nanocrystals with a hexagonal wurtzite structure were formed. These ZnO nanocrystals were single crystalline, as confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The size of ZnO nanoparticles was determined by reaction temperature. Prolong reaction time, ZnO nanorods were formed and they grew along the [001] direction, whose aspect ratio was also changed with reaction time

Abstract:The supercritical hydrothermal synthesis of nanomaterials has gained significant attention due to its straightforward operation and the excellent performance of the resulting products. In this study, the supercritical hydrothermal method was used with Zn(CH3COO)2·2H2O as the precursor and deionized water and ethanol as the solvent. Nano-ZnO was synthesized under different reaction temperatures (300~500 °C), reaction times (5~15 min), reaction pressures (22~30 MPa), precursor concentrations (0.1~0.5 mol/L), and ratios of precursor to organic solvent (C2H5OH) (2:1~1:4). The effects of synthesis conditions on the morphology and size of ZnO were studied. It was found that properly increasing hydrothermal temperature and pressure and extending the hydrothermal time are conducive to the more regular morphology and smaller size of ZnO particles, which is mainly achieved through the change of reaction conditions affecting the hydrothermal reaction rate. Moreover, the addition of ethanol makes the morphology of nano-zno more regular and significantly inhibits the agglomeration phenomenon. In addition to the change in physical properties of the solvent, this may also be related to the chemical bond established between ethanol and ZnO. The results show that the optimum synthesis conditions of ZnO are 450 °C, 26 MPa, 0.3 mol/L, 10 min, and the molar ratio of precursor to ethanol is 1:3.

Abstract:The solution method,such as the sol-gel process,could directly synthesize nano-scale metal oxide crystal and dope nano-scale metal oxide crystal under assistance of anion-exchange resin and organic solvent.The synthesized nano-scale crystals were dried through the azeotropic distillation using iso-amyl acetate as azeotropic solvent and a highly dispersed powder was obtained.The analysis that conducted on transmission electron microscope(TEM) and X-ray diffractometer(XRD) demonstrated the nano-scale powder did possess distinctly crystalline structure,and showed a high photo-catalysis and anti-bacterial that only crystal had.

Abstract:Pure ZrO2 nanopowders have been synthesized via sonochemical method, which is a simple and energy efficient way to synthesize inorganic materials. The as-synthesized samples (hydrous zirconia, ZrO2·nH2O) are characterized by several techniques: X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), photoluminescence spectrometer (PLS) and Raman spectrometer (RS). It is shown that t-ZrO2 samples have two photoluminescence (PL) bands corresponding to the wavelengths of excitations of 254 and 412nm. The structure of as-synthesized samples (ZrO2·nH2O) and the formation mechanism of ZrO2 nanopowders are also discussed.

Abstract:Nanostructured ZnO was synthesized by a sonochemical reaction. Ultrasonic irradiation were set up in continuous, pulse in 3 seconds on and a second off (on:off=3:1), and pulse in 2 seconds on and a second off (on:off=2:1) wave modes for 1.5 hours. The characteristics of particles generated by these modes such as morphology, crystallinity, FTIR, photoluminescence, and photocatalytic activity to degrade methylene blue were compared. Zinc nitrate and ammonia water-based solutions were selected as chemicals without the addition of other surfactants. The morphology of the generated ZnO particles could be tuned from flower-like, needle- or hairy-like, and spherical structures by changing the mode of ultrasonic irradiation from continuous, on:off=3:1, and on:off=2:1 modes, respectively. The generated particles indicated that a wurtzite structure of ZnO in a hexagonal phase was formed. The crystalline sizes of particles generated in continuous, on:off=3:1, and on:off=2:1 modes were 28, 27, 24 nm. A similar position of reduction peak of FTIR in all samples indicated that no differences in particles chemical bonding characteristics. Photoluminescence intensity was also decreased with changes the wave mode from continuous to pulse. Photocatalytic activity was also evaluated resulting in particles synthesized by continuous mode had the highest methylene blue degradation degree following by on:off=3:1, and on:off=2:1 modes.

Abstract:Monodispersed ZnO nanorods were prepared using ZnCl_2 as raw material and PVP as surfactant by in-situ reaction. The ZnO nanorods were characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD) and ultraviolet and visible light spectrophotormeter. The influence of experimental conditions, such as reaction time, quantity of PVP and concentration of Zn~(2+) etc on the size and shape of the Zno nanorods were discussed. A preliminary growth mechanism of the ZnO nanorods was proposed.
