Abstract:NiS2−xSex nanocrystallines (0 ≤ x ≤ 2) was successfully synthesized by solvothermal method at 180–200 °C. It was found that both temperature and solvent have important effects on the formation of NiS2−xSex nanocrystallines.

Abstract:Reaction of a selenium alkaline solution with a nickel complex aqueous solution produces nanocrystalline pyrite NiSe2 with an average particle size of about 20nm in the temperature range of 90–100°C through a hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that the product is a single phase of pyrite nickel diselenide. TEM and ED images show that the product has a good crystallinity with a plate-like form. The synthesis can be performed conveniently and safely.

Abstract:NiS2−xSex solid solution has been successfully prepared via an ultrasonic solvothermal route. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, ICP-AES and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It has been found that the lattice parameter a follows a Vegard law with the selenium content xSe. The effects of ultrasonic and solvent on synthesizing NiS2−xSex solid solution were discussed. By comparing the Se molar fraction in the reagents to the selenium content in the samples, the formation mechanism of NiS2−xSex solid solution was proposed. Scanning electron microscopy images indicate that the products exhibit different morphologies corresponding to different compositions.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline NiSb and NiSb2 have been prepared through a solvothermal co-reduction route at low temperatures (120–180°C). The features of this method include: (1) the reactants are simple inorganic salts (NiCl2·6H2O and SbCl3); (2) two types of nickel antimonides (NiSb and NiSb2) can be obtained respectively by changing the reducing agents and temperatures. The as-prepared samples were characterized by XRD and TEM. A possible formation mechanism has been presented. The thermoelectric properties of as-prepared NiSb, and the magnetic properties of NiSb2 were investigated.

Abstract:Millerite NiS nanocrystals have been prepared through the solvent (hydro-) thermal method. The XRD patterns indicated that the products were pure millerite NiS with cell parameters a=9.624(4) Å, c=3.150(1) Å. Using ethylenediamine and hydrazine hydrate as solvent resulted in the formation of rod-like nanocrystalline NiS, whereas spherical nanoparticles were obtained using aqueous ammonia as solvent. The products obtained have relatively high surface areas, which favors the application in catalysis.

Abstract:Nickel sulfides were prepared through a solvothermal process at 190°C by using NiCl2·6H2O and thiourea as reactants. XRD, XPS and SEM were used to study the phases, compositions and morphologies of the samples. It was found that through changing solvent and molar ratio of thiourea to NiCl2·6H2O, single-phase rhombohedral NiS (r-NiS) and hexagonal NiS (h-NiS) were obtained, NiS2 and Ni3S4 were also observed. r-NiS prepared in different solvents had different morphologies, such as rod-, sphere-, and petal-like.

Abstract:Nanoparticles of tin disulfide have been successfully prepared by the solvent–thermal synthesis method using different precursors. The X-ray powder diffraction patterns showed that the products were hexagonal SnS2 phase and transmission electron microscope images displayed that the samples were laminar particles with the average size of about 150nm. The Raman spectra showed a sharp peak at 311cm−1, which is characteristic of SnS2. The IR spectra determined the absence of tin oxides. In addition, the possible routes of the reactions were discussed.

Abstract:Large-scale CdS nanowires with uniform diameter and high aspect ratios were synthesized using a simple solvothermal route that employed CdCl2 and S powder as starting materials, ethylenediamine (en) as the solvent. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images show that the products are hexagonal structure CdS nanowires with diameter of 40nm and length up to 10μm. Selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and high resolution TEM (HRTEM) studies indicate the single-crystalline nature of CdS nanowires with an oriented growth along the c-axis direction. The optical properties of the products were characterized by optical absorption spectra and photoluminescence spectra. Based on the results of contrastive experiments, it is found that the sulfur source and the solvent play significant roles in the formation of uniform nanowires. A possible formation mechanism of nanowires is discussed.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline α-NiS and β-NiS were synthesized through a solvothermal reducing process at 110 °C with ethanol and pyridine as solvent, respectively. X-ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectra (ICP-AES) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize the samples. In this reaction, due to the different properties of the solvents, solvent determines the phases of as-prepared NiS. And it was found that the as-prepared α-NiS had higher phase stability than the normal NiS.

Abstract:A novel low temperature solvothermal pathway to CdSxSe1−x nanowires (0≤x≤1.0) was successfully developed. It was found that both temperature and solvent have important effects on the formation of CdSxSe1−x nanowires and their incorporating process via the solvothermal process in ethylenediamine. The morphology of CdSxSe1−x nanocrystallites was well controlled by choosing the appropriate solvent.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline Ni0.85Se and NiSe2 were prepared through the reaction between NiCl(2)(.)6H(2)O and elemental selenium at 50 degreesC, using (N2H4H2O)-H-. as reductant and pyridine as solvent. TEM images showed that the Ni0.85Se and NiSe2 particles were both spherical in shape with sizes of about 20 nm. Solvent pyridine plays an important role in the formation of nanocrystalline nickel selenides due to its appropriate N-chelation ability and alkalescence.

Abstract:A very mild synthesis of nanocrystalline γ-NiSb via a novel solvothermal coordination-reduction process is reported here. The reaction of the mixture of NiCl2, antimony, and KBH4 was carried out in ethylenediamine (en) at 140°C for 24 h. X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscope images show that the products are hexagonal γ-NiSb phase and well crystallized with an average size of about 15 nm. The reaction proceeds through a metallic nickel intermediate. The morphology of the products was influenced markedly by the solvents, and a dendritic crystal of NiSb was obtained in diethylamine. The products were also investigated by UV/vis absorption, photoluminescence, X-ray photoelectron spectra, and Fourier-transform IR.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline CoS2 and NiS2 have been successfully prepared through a solventothermal synthetic route at 130°C. The final products are characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The sulfur-to-metal ratio of the as-prepared products is ca. 1.99–1 and 1.98–1 for CoS2 and NiS2, respectively. TEM shows that with the change of solvents, the morphologies of the as-prepared sulfides can be controlled.

Abstract:NiS nanobelts of hexagonal phase have been hydrothermally synthesized starting from Ni(CH3COO)2·4H2O and Na2S2O3·5H2O at 200°C for 12h. The as-prepared nanobelts were 50nm thick, 70–200nm wide and more than 10μm long. As ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) added, in similar condition, 2μm NiS2 microspheres of cubic phase were prepared. However, as Ni2+/S2O32- ratio was 1:1 and the temperature was decreased to 160°C, 5μm NiS2 microspheres constructed of cuboids were formed.

Abstract:There may be an antiferromagnetic quantum phase transition near x=1.00 in NiS2-xSex system. The polycrystalline samples of NiS2-xSex(x=0.96, 0.98, 1.00, 1.05, 1.10 and 1.20) were prepared by the solid state reaction method, and the measurements of their structure, magnetization and resistivity were carried out. It is found that the temperature dependence of susceptibility is typical characteristic of a strongly correlated electron system. Similar to high Tc superconductors, the relationship between resistivity and temperature displays a linear behavior in a wide temperature range from 50 to 300 K. For NiS2-xSex(x=0.98 and 1.00) samples, its ρ(T) is proportional to T3/2 at lower temperatures (3-30 K), which shows a non-Fermi-liquid behavior. But for NiS2-xSex(x=1.10 and 1.20) samples, its ρ(T) is proooportional to T2 at lower temperatures (3-30 K), which shown the Fermi-liquid behavior. The antiferromagnetic quantum spin fluctuation related to quantum phase transition is discussed in detail.

Abstract:The preparation of nanocrystalline Cu2SnS3 at synthetic conditions of low temperature (<180°C) was first reported. Nanocrystalline Cu2SnS3 was directly synthesized from the reaction of CuCl2·2H2O with elemental tin and sulfur through a solvothermal process in ethylenediamine at 140–180°C for 15 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, transmission electron microscope (TEM) images, and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) were used to characterize the products. The mechanism of the formation of the Cu2SnS3 nanocrystals in the solvothermal process was proposed. The UV–vis absorption spectroscopy and the electric conductivity of products were also studied.

Abstract:CdS nanoparticles with various shapes were directly synthesized in several solvents by adopting a solvothermal route at 160°C for 12hours respectively, using distilled water(H2O), N,N-Dimethylformamide(DMF), ethanolamine(an) and ethylenediamine(en) as the solvent and the shape-controlled reactant. The structure and morphology of the products are characterized, and the effect of the solvents on the structure, shape and size has been discussed, considering the physical and structural properties of the solvents. The optical properties of the products synthesized in an and en were revealed by photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The above results contribute to the synthesis of CdS and other semiconductor nanoparticles with tuned and controllable shape and size.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline pyrite nickel disulphide has been successfully prepared through solvent-thermal method with the reaction of anhydrous NiCl2 and Na2S3 at 150 degrees C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicates that the product was pyrite nickel disulphide phase. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) shows that the average particle size is about 28 nm. Abstract:Nanorods of NiS were successfully prepared by a solvothermal synthetic route using S and Ni powders as reagents in ethylenediamine (en) solvent at the temperature of 200°C. The as prepared NiS nanorods were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was found that the nanorods have diameters and lengths in the region from 80nm to 120nm, and from 2μm to 3μm, respectively. The NiS nanorods are single crystals with millerite structure. On the basis of the experimental results and corresponding literatures, a possible growth mechanism of the NiS nanorods crystals is discussed.

Abstract:CdS nanowires with an average diameter of 25 mn and lengths of 20-40 mu m have been solvothermally synthesized in a mixed solvent of ethylenediamine and dodecanethiol at 180 degrees C. The time-dependent examinations reveal that the formation process of CdS nanowires involves two sequential processes: a short-period solid-solid transformation process in the initial stage and a long-period Ostwald ripening process. The effect of both the volume ratios between the two components of the solvent and the reaction temperatures on the nanowire growth has also been investigated in detail. The results of the photoluminescence and UV-vis spectroscopy measurements reveal that the as-prepared CdS nanowires show a quantum confinement effect.

Abstract:One-dimensional nanocrystalline FeS2 has been prepared in ethylenediamine. Much different from other materials, such as CdE (E=S, Se, Te) with hexagonal structure, FeS2 is in cubic structure. The as-prepared FeS2 powders display rodlike morphology with diameters of 20–50 nm and lengths of up to 1000 nm. The morphology control by choosing different solvents is also discussed.
