Impact of William Penny Brooks and the Wenlock Olympian Games on the Making of Coubertin's Modern Olympic Thought

Abstract:This paper introduces the English gentleman,William Penny Brooks and the Wenlock Olympian Games established by him in the nineteenth century.It is argued that, as an important link in the making of Coubertin's modern Olympic thought,the Wenlock Olympian Games have direct and important impact on the making of Coubertin's modern Olympic thought.Meanwhile,it is pointed out that at present there is sufficient macro level summary but inadequate micro level evidence about domestic relevant research;it is important to grasp first-hand material and improve researchers' English level;it is suggested that more foreign works of high quality should be translated and introduced.
