Abstract:With its unique cultural and artistic form,Olympic torch relay is held strictly in accordance with the relevant provisions of Olympic Games.Studying the historical evolvement of torch relay is in fact a way to investigate the developing process of the Olympic Movement from another perspective.By means of literature review,logical analysis and so on,the authors of this paper have carried out a retrospective interpretation of the Olympic torch relay with historical perspective.In the time of ancient Olympic Games,the torch relay was held to achieve the purpose of the "sacred truce" with much religious atmosphere.Ancient Greece respects unity of God and humans,a blending of ancient myths with realistic heroism,and worships the image of flame,which provides the source for modern Olympic torch relay.The modern Olympic torch relay has three stages of development: the initial embryonic stage,the forming of its ceremony and the creative development.Based on these,the torch relay features are interpreted as the following: the Olympic flame has profound significance and has become a unique symbol uniting the Olympic spirit;the torch relay plan embodies innovation and culture of the host country,which has significant impact with a large scale globally;flame lighting becomes the most brilliant event in the opening ceremony with innovative ideas every time;torch relay has a great impact on the development of Olympic movement and the host country;torch design reflects the developing process of Olympics and pursuits the unity of technology and humanities.
