Abstract:Machine tools and coordinate measurement machine (CMM) with rectangular coordinate system have 21 items of geometric errors, 18 of which are measured by ready-made interferometer, the rest 3 items rolling angle errors are the most difficult parameter to be measured. At present, it is in the phase of research and exploration for the methods of measuring rolling angle of the moving mechanism auxiliary guide rail. Several developed methods of rolling angle measurement are described in detail. The principle, the status of development and the application situations of each method are displayed. The advantages and disadvantages are compared. Some ideas about its trend and some ways about improving measurement sensitivity of rolling angle are given.

Abstract:The method of obtaining attitude angle by the comparison of the magnetic field vector from actual measurement using 3-axis magnetometer with the data calculated from orbit propagation and International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) model is suitable for pico-satellite application of small volume, light weight, and low power consumption. The attitude angle error consists of magnetic field vector measurement error and magnetic field vector calculation error. After the analysis, it was clear that A/D converter, magnetic sensor error, temperature, nearby ferrous materials, etc. will result in measurement error up to 1.74°. And the calculated magnetic field vector error is about 0.5° when Kepler orbit propagator and IGRF model was used. Therefore, the total attitude angle error is 2.24°.

Abstract:Influence of fixing errors on the flying attitude of magnetic head slider was investigated numerically.A mathematic model for slider flying was presented with consideration of fixing errors consists of pitch fixing error and roll fixing error.A comparison of numerical and experimental results was carried out.It is found that the pitch fixing error has obvious effect on flying height and pitch angle,but little on roll angle.With the increase of pitch fixing error,deviations of flying height and pitch angle increase.On the other hand,the roll fixing error has no obvious effect on flying height and pitch angle,but significant on roll angle.With the increase of roll fixing error,deviations of roll angle increase.Hence,it is necessary to keep pitch fixing error in control for good read and write of magnetic header.

A Heading Correction Technology Based on Magnetometer Calibration and Adaptive Anti-Interference Algorithm

Abstract:Magnetic and inertial measurement units are extensively used to determine the navigation systems' attitude and position. However, magnetic sensors are susceptible to external ambient disturbance, which leads to heading estimation errors. This paper establishes a unified error correction model for the magnetometer to improve the accuracy and reliability of the measurement results. After applying the algorithmic correction, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the magnetic field data is significantly reduced by 91.70%, reaching a value of only 0.85uT. Additionally, an adaptive heading correction algorithm is proposed to suppress magnetic interference. It introduces a generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) method to detect magnetic interference. GLRT is suitable for inference problems in the case of small sample data, and the sensitivity and specificity of magnetic anomaly detection can be adjusted by setting thresholds to adapt to different application requirements and environmental conditions. When there is magnetic interference, this correction algorithm dynamically adjusts the weight of magnetic sensor data through GLRT. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the directional error by 91.20% in the magnetic interference environment. It is expected to find applications in various fields, including military navigation, aviation, and aerospace.

Abstract:Coil vector magnetometer is an advanced instrument that can perform integrated multielement geomagnetic measurements and has excellent prospects for geoscience research and resource exploration applications. The attitude deviation is one of the main error sources of magnetic direction measurements of the coil vector magnetometer. The existing attitude determination method requires the use of additional auxiliary instruments (e.g., a spirit level). Furthermore, this method cannot be used to perform direct determination of the directional shift of the bias field caused by attitude deviation, and the magnetism of the detection instrument inevitably introduces new measurement errors. Therefore, it is difficult to achieve high-precision attitude deviation correction. To address this issue, we propose a novel electrical method to enable direct, high-precision determination of the attitude deviation and the corresponding correction indicator for the coil vector magnetometer using only a single rotation of the magnetometer and applying bias fields, thereby realizing comprehensive high-precision hard and soft corrections of the attitude deviation via indicator alignment without relying on auxiliary detection instruments. In addition, we developed a dedicated experimental platform and then validated both the practicality and the performance of the proposed method in a geomagnetic observatory. Comparative experimental results for two coil vector magnetometers indicate that when the correction indicator's alignment inaccuracy is less than 1 nT, the magnetic direction measurement error caused by the attitude deviation can be less than 6 in.

Abstract:Three-axis magnetic flux gate sensors are widely used in Chinese geomagnetic observatories, but due to their directional errors, it is necessary to study error correction methods to improve measurement accuracy. Firstly, the mechanism of directional errors produced by three-axis magnetic flux gate sensors is analyzed, followed by the development of measurement tools for conducting directional error measurement experiments on the high-precision three-axis magnetic flux gate sensors of the Chinese FGM-01 series. Experimental results show that correcting the Z-axis and D-axis directional errors is essential. The observation data after error correction, whether in terms of the standard deviation of its all-day baseline values or the relative difference magnitude with the reference instrument, significantly decrease, demonstrating the clear correction effect and proving the effectiveness of this correction method.

Error Analysis of Circular Gratings Angle-Measuring System

Abstract:In order to analyze the error sources of circular gratings angle-measuring system, a series of coordinate systems were established on the gratings angle-measuring system through taking many mechanical errors into account, such as rotary errors of the axis system, installing eccentricity and tilt of circular gratings disc, graduation errors, readhead installation errors and etc. Then position and attitude relationships between two adjacent coordinate systems were established, thus the displacement error of gratings' graduation in the readhead coordinate system was calculated by homogeneous transformation method, so an angle-measuring error model was established, the relationship between the mechanical error sources and the angle-measuring errors under the condition of the different number of used readheads was expounded. According to the established error model and theoretical analysis, some conclusions were drawn, that is, adopting single readhead can not eliminate first harmonic errors resulted from the installation eccentricity error; using twin readheads not installed centrosymmetrically can not totally eliminate first harmonic errors, and some residual first order harmonic errors retained; applying four readheads can eliminate mechanical installation errors, but can not completely eliminate the graduation errors. Finally, an experiment was carried out on the circular gratings angle-measuring system mounted on an aerostatic bearings, some conclusions were verified, and it provided a theoretical basis for raising the angular position accuracy of the angle-measuring system.
A Geomagnetic Navigation Algorithm for Miniature Unmanned Helicopter

Abstract:A geomagnetic navigation algorithm for miniature unmanned helicopter is presented.On the basis of the analysis of strapdown magnetometer output model,an ellipsoid hypothesis correction algorithm is introduced to compensate the zero bias and scale factor error based on recursive least square.The corrected geomagnetic measurements are then fused with the measurements of strapdown gyros using complementary filter.The yaw angle is finally calculated from the tilt compensated geomagnetic measurements.The experiment results show that the static yaw angle estimation error derived from the proposed algorithm is less than 1.5°,and in the autonomous hovering,trajectory tracking and landing flight modals of miniature autonomous helicopter,the algorithm can well realize the yaw angle control and the decoupling of longitudinal and lateral velocity.Thus,the proposed geomagnetic navigation algorithm can meet the requirements of miniature autonomous helicopter.

Abstract:Aeromagnetic surveys are important in geophysical prospecting and magnetic anomaly detection. Magnetic fields are typically measured by optically pumped magnetometers (OPMs) mounted on an aircraft. Platform-generated magnetic interference severely compromises the sensitivity of the OPMs. Therefore, aeromagnetic compensation is necessary. However, measurement uncertainties of three-axis magnetometers influence the qualities of aeromagnetic compensation and there is no method that can directly predict the qualities of aeromagnetic compensation before calibration flights. To address this issue, we propose a method to calculate the systematic errors of aeromagnetic compensation caused by measurement uncertainties of three-axis magnetometers and analyze the performance of aeromagnetic compensation in advance of calibration flights. It can be used to estimate the residual errors of aeromagnetic compensation theoretically. Using this method, researchers can assess whether aircraft platforms are appropriate to implement aeromagnetic surveys or not before carrying out experiments in practice. Field experiments are carried out to exhibit how to use the method to calculate the measurement uncertainties of aeromagnetic compensation in different conditions. The results of the experiments demonstrate the validity of the method.

Abstract:Magnetic orientation systems have widely been used by measuring the earth magnetic field and provide a pervasive source of directional information. However, to obtain the high precision, orientation systems must be compensated prior to use for the various errors of magnetometers such as the bias, misalignment and inconsistence in sensitivity, and the pitch and roll angles, especially in dynamic state. In this study, magnetic orientation system mainly consist of three single-axis magnetometers, a tri-axis accelerometer and a tri-axis gyroscope were developed. An error-separation method was introduced to calibrate magnetometers. Data from magnetometers, accelerometer and gyroscope were fused based on Kalman filtering. In addition, accelerometer and gyroscope were also calibrated before data fusion. Experimental results showed the heading error of magnetic orientation system was about 0.1° in a static state, and <3° in a dynamic state, which proved the effectivities of the calibration methods and data fusion algorithm.

Abstract:Purpose Attitude and heading are very important measurements on board aircraft. In modern solutions they are measured by the attitude and heading reference system (AHRS). In some small unmanned systems, the GPS track angle is used for heading corrections instead of the magnetometer; then, the system measures the track angle instead of heading. With a temporary lack of correction signals, the measurement error increases very quickly. Similarly, a quick increase in the measurement error is observed when a magnetic heading sensor used for correction stops working properly. This study aims to propose measurement of the roll angle for yaw angle correction. Design/methodology/approach AHRS algorithms were designed; typical maneuvers were analyzed. The method was verified by simulation and in flight testing analysis. For quantitative analyses, a performance index was proposed. Findings The method enables reduction of the yaw angle error caused by the gyros bias error. This study presents the idea, results of simulations and flight testing data analysis and discusses advantages and limitations of the presented method. Practical implications The presented methodology can be implemented in AHRS systems for manned and unmanned aircraft. Originality/value This study enables more accurate measurement of the yaw angle in the case of missing correction signals.

Abstract:In long-term observations, the attitude drift of a coil vector magnetometer caused by mechanical deformation will directly affect the accuracy of magnetic direction measurements. To solve this problem, we propose a characterization model and calibration method for the measurement error associated with attitude drift. The proposed model uses an attitude matrix to define a mapping from the unmeasurable characteristic angle to the measurable magnetometer attitude. We propose a new coordinate system to establish a characterization model linking the characteristic angle of the magnetometer attitude to the measurement error of the magnetic direction, thereby permitting quantitative analysis of the attitude drift and real-time suppression of its negative influence on the measurement accuracy without complex manual operations. The proposed model shows that in the presence of small attitude changes, the measurement error of the magnetic inclination is mainly determined by the south–north nonlevelness of magnetometer, and the error of magnetic declination is mainly determined by the magnetometer orientation and east–west nonlevelness. Our simulations show that when the east–west nonlevelness, south–north nonlevelness, and orientation angle of the magnetometer are , , and , respectively, the measurement errors (baseline shift) of the magnetic inclination and declination are and , respectively. To ver- fy the results, we designed an experimental platform and conducted a comparative experiment. The results show that in the presence of the aforementioned attitude parameters, the measurement errors of the magnetic inclination and declination can be reduced by 97.8% and 88.6%, respectively, through error calculation and baseline correction.

Abstract:The test of attitude parameters is important index in the process of moving object test. Aiming at large error of measurement of attitude angle,angular speed gyro in high-speed movement,propose attitude measurement combination based on coil magnetic and acceleration sensors. The outputs value of coil type magnetic sensor contain information synthesis of rotational speed and angular velocity,then calculate angular velocity information of carrier data fusion and attitude solution by extended whole attitude quaternion algorithm. The experiment of semiphysical simulation on three-axis turntable shows that the algorithm is correct. Strength of local magnetic field is not needed,during calculation process,and the method is simple and feasible.

Abstract:The Tolley-Lawson (TL) model plays an important role in the aeromagnetic survey. The TLG model based on the TL model introduced the correction of the geomagnetic gradient in the real world and improved the precision of aeromagnetic compensation. The key to geomagnetic gradient compensation is to introduce the system's position information. However, in general, there is an offset between the origin of the coordinates of the magnetometer and the fuselage, which will lead to sensor position errors, especially during maneuvers. Correcting the positional error will eliminate the offset and increase the precision of the aeromagnetic survey. In this letter, the principle of the positional error is analyzed, and an improved model (TLG-C) aiming to correct the positional error is proposed. The positional error is modeled as a function of the attitude angle of the aircraft and the distance between the fuselage and the magnetometer. An improved aeromagnetic compensation algorithm is derived based on the TLG-C model. The results of 24 cases in actual calibration flights show that the proposed method can effectively enhance the improvement ratio.

Abstract:Aeromagnetic exploration is one of the most important exploration methods in geophysics. In aeromagnetic exploration, three-axis fluxgate magnetometers are widely used to measure the attitude of the platform. However, system error caused by the manufacture precision of three-axis fluxgate magnetometers degrades the measurement accuracy of the attitude. Therefore, the calibration of three-axis fluxgate magnetometers is essential. In this paper, the calibration model of three-axis fluxgate magnetometers is discussed, and the measurement errors of three-axis fluxgate magnetometers in an unmanned helicopter experiment are analyzed. A calibration method is applied to the inflight data. Then, more accurate attitude of the platform is obtained. The validity of the method is demonstrated by the experimental results.
Single Accelerometer Roll Angle Measurement System Error Analysis

Abstract:In order to study the single accelerometer high spinning projectile roll angle measurement system er-ror and improve the accuracy of measurement,a single accelerometer roll angle measurement error model in high spinning projectile was established.The model contained the error of accelerometer installation location,instal-lation angle and cross axis sensitivity.Respectively using single factor sensitive factor synthesis method and Monte Carlo simulation method to assess the accuracy of single accelerometer roll angle measurement in high spinning projectile,the two methods about the accuracy results was between 3.5772°and 3.8648°,so as to veri-fied the correctness of single accelerometer roll angle measurement error model.

Abstract:The hard disk of computer develops toward miniaturization and high storage density.The flying height of magnetic head in hard disk driver is getting lower and lower.Meanwhile,the magnetic head is becoming thinner and easier to occur thermal deformation,then affecting the stability of flying height.Conventional methods are to reduce the thermal deformation of magnetic head to ensure the flying height,which influence other performance.The influence of thermal deformation of magnetic head on steady flying height was analyzed by numerical method.The Reynolds equation of ultra-thin gas film was corrected by high-level slip model,the pressure equations were deduced and solved by weighted residual method and finite element method.By reduced physics model of magnetic head flying on disk,the relationship between thermal deformation and flying height was found.The results prove that certain thermal deformation is helpful to stable the flying height of magnetic head.
A Novel Algorithm for Improving the Accuracy of Attitude and Heading Angle Measurement of Electronic Compass

Abstract:This paper studied the measurement precision of the electronic compass used in VSAT(very small aperture terminal).The basic principle of the measurement was discussed in detail,and the error mathematical model of the measurement was derived.The cause for the increase of the roll angle measurement error with the increases of the pitch angle was analyzed and a novel method for improving the measurement precision was proposed based on the above analysis.The simulation and experiment results show that the novel method can remove the influence of pitch angle on the roll angle measurement and can improve the accuracy of heading measurement effectively.The application of the novel method shows that the roll angle accuracy is approximately 0.2°and the heading angle accuracy is approximately 0.5°with a turntable pitch angle of 30°.

Abstract:Aircraft bearings are the supporting part of aeroengines, so their stable operation guarantees engine safety. At present, multisensor information fusion is very common in the fault diagnosis of aviation bearings. Currently, the commonly used monitoring means can only collect information about a single state through each utilized sensor. However, when different sensors are used for the sake of obtaining comprehensive information, this method brings disadvantages such as a reduced computing speed. For this reason, a new aircraft bearing fault measurement method is proposed based on weak magnetic detection. It can realize the synchronous collection of vibration signals and the rotation frequency of the inner ring, cage, and rolling element by nondestructive noncontact means; reduce the number of sensors in the process of aircraft bearing monitoring; measure the bearing slip ratio; provide an objective analysis of the relationship between bearing fault and slipping; and provide theoretical support for bearing life evolution analysis and optimal design. A simulation study of the theoretical mechanism and an experimental study on an engineering experimental platform are carried out on weak magnetic detection, and the effectiveness of the method proposed in this article is verified.
