Physique status and corresponding measures among national civil servants in Beijing

Abstract:[Objective] To assess the status of physical fitness of national civil servants in Beijing,put forward the corresponding measures according to the existing problems.[Methods] By the cross-sectional study,a total of 1 744 in-service national civil servants aged 20-60 years were included,and the physical and muscular strength test were performed.According to the standards of body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage (％BF),the physical status,and distribution overweight and obesity of subjects with different sex and age were described.[Results] Among 1 744 of participants,there were 891 females and 853 males,and the proportion of females (51.1％) was higher than that of males (48.9％).The average BMI and BF％ of males was (24.8±3.2) kg/m2 and (22.1±4.5)％ respectively,the BMI value was higher than 24kg/m2 and BF％ was higher than 20.1％ in every age group,and both of them increased with age (P＜0.05).The average BMI and BFP of females was (21.5±2.7) kg/m2 and (26.5±5.3)％ respectively,and the values of them increased with age (P＜0.01),but both were within the normal range.According to BMI criteria,the detection rate of overweight,obesity and underweight respectively were 43.8％,13.8％,2.0％ for males,and 13.9％,2.4％ and 11.6％ for females.In both males and females,the detection rates of overweight and obesity according to BFP criteria were higher than those according to BMI criteria.Among males,the muscle index and grip strength were the highest in the age group of 31-40 year-old,and both decreased after 40 years.The difference in grip strength was statistically significant among different age groups (P＜0.05).Among females,the muscle index was highest in the age group of 4-50 year-old,and the difference was statistically significant among different age groups (P＜0.01).[Conclusion] Among national civil servants in Beijing,there are higher risks for obesity and muscle wasting syndrome in males,and underweight problem in females deserves attention.It is a suggested that the civil servants group should reduce sedentary lifestyle,increase exercise,and pay more attention to reasonable nutrition.
