INVESTIGATION ON KNOWLEDGE OF PLAGUE PREVENTION AND WAYS OF HEALTH EDUCATION AMONG RESIDENTS IN AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL AREAS IN QINGHAI

Abstract:[Objective]To identify the levels of plague related knowledge and education needs among rural and pastoral residents,and to provide basis for future intervention of education among people in these areas.[Methods]556 residents from Xinhai and Huangyuan counties were randomly selected and surveyed by using self-made questionnaires with 15 plague-related questions and means of getting knowledge.[Results]The average awareness rates of plague preventing among the agricultural and pastoral participants were 60.31% and 57.27%,respectively.The difference between them was not significant(χ2 = 0.217,P﹥0.05).Most of the respondents knew that plague was an infectious disease which can infect humans,and knew the severe consequences of being infected and some preventions of not being infected.But the awareness rates of plague pathogen and biting of infected fleas can spread infection were very low.The hoping ways of accessing knowledge on plague prevention and control were diverse,but the favorite ones were leaflets and materials with more pictures and consulting village doctors.[Conclusion]Residents involved in the investigation had certain knowledge of plague control but not enough.Therefore,the education of plague prevention should be strengthened in rural and pastoral areas by using diverse ways and materials with easy understanding and Tibetan-Chinese bilingual languages.
