Abstract:· AIM: To study the surgical operation methods of posterior continuous capsulorhexis (PCCC) in congenital cataract.· METHODS: Fifty-eight cases (97 eyes) underwent PCCC with the anterior vitrectomy after the cataract extraction in our hospital from 2004 to 2005.· RESULTS: At 1mo after operation, 18 cases had a visual acuity of 0.6 or better and 42 cases had visual acuity of 0.5 or below; At 3mo after operation, 20 cases had a visual acuity of 0.6 or better, 46 cases had visual acuity of 0.5 or below and the central area of the posterior capsule was clear; During 6-12mo after operation,16 cases had fibrous membrane and 8 cases had vitreous prolapse. There was no retinal detachment.· CONCLUSION: PCCC is a safe and effective method toprohibit after-cataract in the congenital cataract extractions, though with certain recurrence.·
