Abstract:The vibration control of flexible structures is an important issue in aerospace engineering. Pneumatic muscle (PM) possesses unique advantages such as compact structure, high power-weight ratio and excellent flexibility being folded, so that it has brilliant application prospect in vibration control of flexible structures, special in the space deployable structure. This paper treated PM as a variable piston area pneumatic cylinder with elastic load, and established the dynamic model of PM system. The working process of PM system was divided into two sub-stages, shrinking with inflation and releasing with exhaust. The characteristics of PM were discussed by numerical simulation and experiments, and the simulation results keep a good consistency with experimental results.An active vibration control method based on direct velocity feedback was proposed to supress the vibration of a cantilever plate that simplified from solar panel. Two PM actuators were used to control the vibration of the plate. The present method does not need the state space control model constructed by on-line identification. The experimental results show that the present control method has excellent effect on the vibration suppression of flexible structures, and the gain of direct velocity feedback plays an important role in the control experiment, and an optimum gain value should be found.
