Abstract:To investigate the effects of vitamin E on the contents of glutathione and its related enzymes in liver of Nile Tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus,GIFT strain),400 healthy equal-sized juvenile GIFT tilapia with initial weight of(3.25 ± 0.02) g were randomly divided into five groups, which were fed with 5 semi-purified diets containing vitamin E of with 0,25,50,250,2 500 mg / kg of vitamin E supplementation for 56 d,respectively. The results showed that the contents of glutathione in liver of different vitamin E groups were significantly higher than those in the control group(P < 0.05).With 250 mg / kg of vitamin E supplementation, there was the highest increase of glutathione, while the activity ofγ-glutamylcysteine synthetase(γ-GCS) was significantly lower than that in the control group(P < 0.05),and there was the lowest activity of γ-GCS in the 250 mg / kg vitamin E group. There were no significant effects of vitamin E on the activities of glutathione S-transferase(GST) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) compared with the control group;and the glutathione reductase(GR) activity showed the increasing trend compared with the control group,in which there were significant increase in the 25 mg / kg vitamin E group(P < 0.05),but there were no significant differences in the other vitamin E groups compared with the control group.Different additions of vitamin E showed different effects on the expression of γ-GCS mRNA.The results indicate that the effects of vitamin E on glutathione and its related enzymes are one of the ways that vitamin E plays a role in Nile Tilapia.
