Abstract:A study was conducted to investigate the effects of supplemental vitamin E(VE) in practical diet on growth, muscle composition and storage quality of carp(Cyprinus carpio).Basal diet, added with VE 0(control group),100,300,500,700 or 900 mg/kg were fed to carp for 60 days. The basal diet contained 39.10% crude protein,4.31% ether extract and 100 mg/kg VE.Carp with body weight of(97.17±6.01) g were divided into six treatments with triplicate groups, and raised in 18 cement pools(2.4 m ×1.3 m ×1.0 m).Fishes were fed three times per day(07:00,13:00 and 19:00) with the feed intake of 3% of the body weight.Weight gain(WG),condition factor(CF),relative gut length(RGL),intestosomatic index(ISI),hepatosomatic index(HSI),specific growth rate(SGR),feed conversion rate(FCR),protein efficiency ratio(PER),muscle composition, drip loss of fresh meat, exudative loss of freezing meat, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS) and total volatile basic nitrogen(TVB-N) in muscle were measured. Results showed that WG,SGR,PER all increased at first and then decreased with the increment of VE level, and reached the maximum value at 500 mg/kg.Contrary result appeared with FCR,and the lowest value was obtained at 500 mg/kg.No significant(P>0.05) difference was observed in RGL among all treatment and the ISI and CF of the control group were significantly(P<0.05) higher than other groups.HSI increased at first and then decreased with the increment of VE level, and reached the highest level at 700 mg/kg,which was significantly(P<0.05) higher than the control group and 100 mg/kg group.Based on broken line model analysis of the WG,SGR,PER and FCR,the optimal dietary supplemental levels of VE for this formulation were 469.00~491.94 mg/kg.Supplementing VE significantly(P<0.05) affected muscle composition of carp,DM at 700 mg/kg group and CP from 300 to 700 mg/kg were all significantly(P<0.05) higher than control group;EE of control group was significantly(P<0.05) higher than the other groups;no difference(P>0.05) was observed among other groups except that EE at 700 mg/kg was significantly(P<0.05) lower than that at 100 mg/kg when VE increased from 100 to 900 mg/kg.Based on cubic polynomial model analysis of the CP in muscle, the optimal dietary supplemental levels of VE was 636.36 mg/kg.Drip loss, exudative loss,TVB-N and TBARS all decreased(P<0.05) with the increment of VE level, and decreased to the lowest level at 900 mg/kg.
