Abstract:In this paper, we proved that if f is a C-1 local diffeomorphism such that the Lyapunov exponents of every f invariant probability measure are positive, then f is uniformly expanding. We also present a version of this result for diffeomorphism with a non-uniformly hyperbolic set.

Abstract:We consider a large class of 2D area-preserving diffeomorphisms that are not uniformly hyperbolic but have strong hyperbolicity properties on large regions of their phase spaces. A prime example is the standard map. Lower bounds for Lyapunov exponents of such systems are very hard to estimate, due to the potential switching of stable and unstable directions. This paper shows that with the addition of (very) small random perturbations, one obtains with relative ease Lyapunov exponents reflecting the geometry of the deterministic maps.

Abstract:It has been recently realized that for abundant dynamical systems on a compact manifold, the set of points for which Lyapunov exponents fail to exist, called the Lyapunov irregular set, has positive Lebesgue measure. In the present paper, we show that under any physical noise, the Lyapunov irregular set has zero Lebesgue measure and the number of such Lyapunov exponents is finite. This result is a Lyapunov exponent version of Araújo's theorem on the existence and finitude of time averages. Furthermore, we numerically compute the Lyapunov exponents for a surface flow with an attracting heteroclinic connection, which enjoys the Lyapunov irregular set of positive Lebesgue measure, under a physical noise. This paper also contains the proof of the disappearance of Lyapunov irregular behavior on a positive Lebesgue measure set for a surface flow with an attracting homoclinic/heteroclinic connection under a non-physical noise.
Lyapunov Exponents and Correlation Decay for Random Perturbations of Some Prototypical 2D Maps

Abstract:To illustrate the more tractable properties of random dynamical systems, we consider a class of 2D maps with strong expansion on large-but non-invariant-subsets of their phase spaces. In the deterministic case, such maps are not precluded from having sinks, as derivative growth on disjoint time intervals can be cancelled when stable and unstable directions are reversed. Our main result is that when randomly perturbed, these maps possess positive Lyapunov exponents commensurate with the amount of expansion in the system. We show also that initial conditions converge exponentially fast to the stationary state, equivalently time correlations decay exponentially fast. These properties depend only on finite-time dynamics, and do not involve parameter selections, which are necessary for deterministic maps with nonuniform derivative growth.

Abstract:We study the Lyapunov exponents and their associated invariant subspaces for infinite dimensional random dynamical systems in a Banach space, which are generated by, for example, stochastic or random partial differential equations. We prove a multiplicative ergodic theorem. Then, we use this theorem to establish the stable and unstable manifold theorem for nonuniformly hyperbolic random invariant sets.

Abstract:We study the hyperbolicity of a class of horseshoes exhibiting an internal tangency, i.e. a point of homoclinic tangency accumulated by periodic points. In particular these systems are strictly not uniformly hyperbolic. However we show that all the Lyapunov exponents of all invariant measures are uniformly bounded away from 0. This is the first known example of this kind.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a quantitative estimate for the first N Lyapunov exponents for random perturbations of a natural class of 2N-dimensional volume-preserving systems exhibiting strong hyperbolicity on a large but noninvariant subset of the phase space. Concrete models covered by our setting include systems of coupled standard maps, in both ‘weak’ and ‘strong’ coupling regimes.

Abstract:We show that, for a robust ($C^2$-open) class of random non-uniformly expanding maps, there exists equilibrium states for a large class of <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://potentials.In" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> particular, these sytems have measures of maximal entropy. These results also give a partial answer to a question posed by Liu-Zhao. The proof of the main result uses an extension of techniques in recent works by Alves-Araújo, Alves-Bonatti-Viana and Oliveira.

Abstract:We show the existence of large $\mathcal C^1$ open sets of area preserving endomorphisms of the two-torus which have no dominated splitting and are non-uniformly hyperbolic, meaning that Lebesgue almost every point has a positive and a negative Lyapunov exponent. The integrated Lyapunov exponents vary continuously with the dynamics in the $\mathcal C^1$ topology and can be taken as far away from zero as desired. Explicit real analytic examples are obtained by deforming linear endomorphisms, including expanding ones. The technique works in nearly every homotopy class and the examples are stably ergodic (in fact Bernoulli), provided that the linear map has no eigenvalue of modulus one.

Abstract:We prove that infinitely renormalizable contracting Lorenz maps with bounded geometry or the so-called {\it a priori bounds} satisfies the slow recurrence condition to the singular point $c$ at its two critical values $c_1^-$ and $c_1^+$. As the first application, we show that the pointwise Lyapunov exponent at $c_1^-$ and $c_1^+$ equals 0. As the second application, we show that such maps are stochastically stable.

Abstract:We consider the set of partially hyperbolic symplectic diffeomorphisms which are accessible, have 2-dimensional center bundle and satisfy some pinching and bunching conditions. In this set, we prove that the non-uniformly hyperbolic maps are C^r open and there exists a C^r open and dense subset of continuity points for the center Lyapunov exponents. We also generalize these results to volume-preserving systems.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that the homotopy class of non-homothety linear endomorphisms on $\mathbb{T}^2$ with determinant greater than 2 contains a $C^1$ open set of non-uniformly hyperbolic endomorphisms. Furthermore, we prove that the homotopy class of non-hyperbolic elements (having either $1$ or $-1$ as an eigenvalue) whose degree is large enough contains non-uniformly hyperbolic endomorphisms that are also $C^2$ stably ergodic. Abstract:Let f be a C 1 diffeomorphisim of smooth Riemannian manifold and preserve a hyperbolic ergodic measure µ. We prove that if the Osledec splitting is dominated, then the Lyapunov exponents of µ can be approximated by the exponents of atomic measures on hyperbolic periodic orbits.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the Lyapunov regularity of linear random dynamical systems. Both continuous and discrete cases are treated and the conditions are expressed in terms of the so-called regularity coefficient, which is an essential element of the theory of Lyapunov forward regularity developed by Lyapunov himself. It turns out that, using the celebrated multiplicative ergodic theorem of Oseledets, the Lyapunov forward regularity is “typical” in a measure theoretical sense.

Abstract:In this paper we consider $C^{1}$ diffeomorphisms on compact Riemannian manifolds of any dimension that admit a dominated splitting $E^{cs} \oplus E^{cu}.$ We prove that if the Lyapunov exponents along $E^{cu}$ are positive for Lebesgue almost every point, then a map $f$ is non-uniformly expanding along $E^{cu}$ under the assumption that the cocycle $Df_{|E^{cu}(f)}^{-1}$ has a dominated splitting with index 1 on the support of an ergodic Lyapunov maximizing observable measure. As a result, there exists a physical SRB measure for a $C^{1+\alpha}$ diffeomorphism map $f$ that admits a dominated splitting $E^{s} \oplus E^{cu}$ under assumptions that $f$ has non-zero Lyapunov exponents for Lebesgue almost every point and that the cocycle $Df_{|E^{cu}(f)}^{-1}$ has a dominated splitting with index 1 on the support of an ergodic Lyapunov maximizing observable measure.

Abstract:We show that the continuity property of Lyapunov exponents proved in \cite{BCS-Exponents} for smooth surface diffeomorphisms extends to smooth interval maps, in the case when the map only has non-flat critical points and the entropies converging to the topological entropy. The result we obtained is stronger than the continuity of Lyapunov exponents. In particular, we prove the uniform integrability of Lyapunov exponents over entropies.

Abstract:We consider compact invariant sets Λ for C 1 maps in arbitrary dimension. We prove that if Λ contains no critical points then there exists an invariant probability measure with a Lyapunov exponent λ which is the minimum of all Lyapunov exponents for all invariant measures supported on Λ. We apply this result to prove that Λ is uniformly expanding if every invariant probability measure supported on Λ is hyperbolic repelling. This generalizes a well known theorem of Mañé to the higher-dimensional setting.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the dynamical uniform boundedness principle over a family of rational maps with certain nontrivial automorphisms. Specifically, we consider a family of rational maps of an arbitrary degree $d\ge 2$ whose automorphism group contains the cyclic group of order $d$. We prove that a subfamily of this family satisfies the dynamical uniform boundedness principle.

Abstract:Let μ + be the SBR measure on a hyperbolic attractor Ω of a C 2 Axiom A diffeomorphism (M,f) and v the volume measure on M. As is known, μ + -almost every  is Lyapunov regular and the Lyapunov characteristic exponents of (f,Df) at x are constants $\lambda^{(i)}(\mu_+,f),1\leq i\leq s$. In this paper we prove that $v$-almost every $x$ in the basin of attraction $W^s(\Omega)$ is positively regular and the Lyapunov characteristic exponents of $(f,Df)$ at $x$ are the constants . Similar results are also obtained for nonuniformly completely hyperbolic attractors.
