Abstract:In this paper, we proved that if f is a C-1 local diffeomorphism such that the Lyapunov exponents of every f invariant probability measure are positive, then f is uniformly expanding. We also present a version of this result for diffeomorphism with a non-uniformly hyperbolic set.

Abstract:In this paper we consider $C^{1}$ diffeomorphisms on compact Riemannian manifolds of any dimension that admit a dominated splitting $E^{cs} \oplus E^{cu}.$ We prove that if the Lyapunov exponents along $E^{cu}$ are positive for Lebesgue almost every point, then a map $f$ is non-uniformly expanding along $E^{cu}$ under the assumption that the cocycle $Df_{|E^{cu}(f)}^{-1}$ has a dominated splitting with index 1 on the support of an ergodic Lyapunov maximizing observable measure. As a result, there exists a physical SRB measure for a $C^{1+\alpha}$ diffeomorphism map $f$ that admits a dominated splitting $E^{s} \oplus E^{cu}$ under assumptions that $f$ has non-zero Lyapunov exponents for Lebesgue almost every point and that the cocycle $Df_{|E^{cu}(f)}^{-1}$ has a dominated splitting with index 1 on the support of an ergodic Lyapunov maximizing observable measure.

Abstract:Let f be a C 1 diffeomorphisim of smooth Riemannian manifold and preserve a hyperbolic ergodic measure µ. We prove that if the Osledec splitting is dominated, then the Lyapunov exponents of µ can be approximated by the exponents of atomic measures on hyperbolic periodic orbits.

Abstract:We first study the discrete Schrödinger equations with analytic potentials given by a class of transformations. It is shown that if the coupling number is large, then the Lyapunov exponent equals approximately to the logarithm of this coupling number. When the transformation becomes the skew-shift mapping, we prove that the Lyapunov exponent is weak Hölder continuous, and the spectrum satisfies Anderson Localization and contains large intervals. Moreover, all of these conclusions are non-perturbative.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the relation between measure expansiveness and hyperbolicity. We prove that non atomic invariant ergodic measures with all of its Lyapunov exponents positive is positively measure-expansive. We also prove that local diffeomorphisms robustly positively measure-expansive is expanding. Abstract:Let μ + be the SBR measure on a hyperbolic attractor Ω of a C 2 Axiom A diffeomorphism (M,f) and v the volume measure on M. As is known, μ + -almost every  is Lyapunov regular and the Lyapunov characteristic exponents of (f,Df) at x are constants $\lambda^{(i)}(\mu_+,f),1\leq i\leq s$. In this paper we prove that $v$-almost every $x$ in the basin of attraction $W^s(\Omega)$ is positively regular and the Lyapunov characteristic exponents of $(f,Df)$ at $x$ are the constants . Similar results are also obtained for nonuniformly completely hyperbolic attractors.

Abstract:We give an essentially equivalent formulation of the backward contracting property, defined by Juan Rivera-Letelier, in terms of expansion along the orbits of critical values, for complex polynomials of degree at least 2 which are at most finitely renormalizable and have only hyperbolic periodic points, as well as all C 3 interval maps with non-flat critical points.

Abstract:For a class of volume preserving partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms (or non-uniformly Anosov) $f\colon {\T}^d\rightarrow{\T}^d$ homotopic to linear Anosov automorphism, we show that the sum of the positive (negative) Lyapunov exponents of $f$ is bounded above (resp. below) by the sum of the positive (resp. negative) Lyapunov exponents of its linearization. We show this for some classes of derived from Anosov (DA) and non-uniformly hyperbolic systems with dominated splitting, in particular for examples described by C. Bonatti and Viana. The results in this paper address a flexibility program by J. Bochi, A. Katok and F. Rodriguez Hertz.

Abstract:We prove that for any polynomial map with a single critical point its lower Lyapunov exponent at the critical value is negative if and only if the map has an attracting cycle. Similar statement holds for the exponential maps and some other complex dynamical systems. We prove further that for the unicritical polynomials with positive area Julia sets almost every point of the Julia set has zero Lyapunov exponent. Part of this statement generalizes as follows: every point with positive upper Lyapunov exponent in the Julia set of an arbitrary polynomial is not a Lebegue density point.

Abstract:We show the existence of large $\mathcal C^1$ open sets of area preserving endomorphisms of the two-torus which have no dominated splitting and are non-uniformly hyperbolic, meaning that Lebesgue almost every point has a positive and a negative Lyapunov exponent. The integrated Lyapunov exponents vary continuously with the dynamics in the $\mathcal C^1$ topology and can be taken as far away from zero as desired. Explicit real analytic examples are obtained by deforming linear endomorphisms, including expanding ones. The technique works in nearly every homotopy class and the examples are stably ergodic (in fact Bernoulli), provided that the linear map has no eigenvalue of modulus one.

Abstract:The globally positive diffeomorphisms of the 2n-dimensional annulus are important because they represent what happens close to a completely elliptic periodic point of a symplectic diffeomorphism where the torsion is positive definite. For these globally positive diffeomorphisms, an Aubry-Mather theory was developed by Garibaldi \& Thieullen that provides the existence of some minimizing measures. Using the two Green bundles G- and G+ that can be defined along the support of these minimizing measures, we will prove that there is a deep link between: -the angle between G- and G+ along the support of the considered measure m; -the size of the smallest positive Lyapunov exponent of m; -the tangent cone to the support of m.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that, for a C 2 (non-invertible but non-degenerate) map on a compact manifold, an invariant measure satisfies an equality relating entropy, folding entropy and negative Lyapunov exponents if and, under a condition on the Jacobian of the map, only if the measure has absolutely continuous conditional measures on the stable manifolds.

Abstract:We study the amount of nonhyperbolicity within a broad class of (nonhyperbolic) partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with a one-dimensional center. For that, we focus on the center Lyapunov exponent and the entropy of its level sets. We show that these entropies vary continuously and can be expressed in terms of restricted variational principles. In this study, no dynamical coherence is required.

Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems

Abstract:In this paper, we study two properties of the Lyapunov exponents under small perturbations: one is when we can remove zero Lyapunov exponents and the other is when we can distinguish all the Lyapunov exponents. The first result shows that we can perturb all the zero integrated Lyapunov exponents $\int_M \lambda_j(x)d\omega(x)$ into nonzero ones, for any partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism. The second part contains an example which shows the local genericity of diffeomorphisms with non-simple spectrum and three results: one discusses the relation between simple-spectrum property and the existence of complex eigenvalues; the other two describe the difference on the spectrum between the diffeomorphisms far from homoclinic tangencies and those in the interior of the complement. Moreover, among the conservative diffeomorphisms far from tangencies, we prove that ergodic ones form a residual subset.

Abstract:We prove that for C-1 generic diffeomorphisms, every isolated compact invariant set Lambda which satisfies a mild condition on the hyperbolicity of periodic points in Lambda (called the L-NUH condition, see definition 1.1) is hyperbolic. In parallel, we prove that for C-1 diffeomorphisms, every compact invariant set which satisfies Katok's periodic closing property and the L-NUH condition on periodic points is hyperbolic, which is a generalized result of Castro et al (2007 Nonlinearity 20 75-85) for C-2 case with a periodic closing property (called periodic shadowing property in Castro et al (2007 Nonlinearity 20 75-85)).

Abstract:Consider a $C^1$ vector field together with an ergodic invariant probability that has $\ell$ nonzero Lyapunov exponents. Using orthonormal moving frames along certain transitive orbits we construct a linear system of $\ell$ differential equations which is a reduced form of Liao's "standard system". We show that the Lyapunov exponents of this linear system coincide with all the nonzero exponents of the given vector field with respect to the given probability. Moreover, we prove that these Lyapunov exponents have a persistence property that implies that a "Liao perturbation" preserves both sign and value of nonzero Lyapunov exponents.

Abstract:We consider a large class of 2D area-preserving diffeomorphisms that are not uniformly hyperbolic but have strong hyperbolicity properties on large regions of their phase spaces. A prime example is the standard map. Lower bounds for Lyapunov exponents of such systems are very hard to estimate, due to the potential switching of stable and unstable directions. This paper shows that with the addition of (very) small random perturbations, one obtains with relative ease Lyapunov exponents reflecting the geometry of the deterministic maps.

Abstract:The statistical properties of mostly expanding partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms have been substantially studied. In this paper, we would like to address the entropy properties of mostly expanding partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. We prove that for mostly expanding partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with minimal strong stable foliation and one-dimensional center bundle, there exists a $C^1$-open neighborhood of them, in which the topological entropy varies continuously and the intermediate entropy property holds. To prove that, we show that each non-hyperbolic ergodic measure is approached by horseshoes in entropy and in weak$*$-topology.
