Abstract:Let f be a C 1 diffeomorphisim of smooth Riemannian manifold and preserve a hyperbolic ergodic measure µ. We prove that if the Osledec splitting is dominated, then the Lyapunov exponents of µ can be approximated by the exponents of atomic measures on hyperbolic periodic orbits.

Abstract:We consider the quasi-periodic cocycles (omega, A(x, E)) : (x, v) -> (x + omega A(x, E)v) with omega Diophantine. Let M-2(C) be a normed space endowed with the matrix norm, whose elements are the 2 x 2 matrices. Assume that A : X x epsilon -> M-2(C) is jointly continuous, depends analytically on x is an element of T and is Holder continuous in E is an element of epsilon, where epsilon is a compact metric space and T is the torus. We prove that if two Lyapunov exponents are distinct at one point E-0 is an element of epsilon, then these two Lyapunov exponents are Holder continuous at any E in a ball central at Eo. Moreover, we will give the expressions of the radius of this ball and the Holder exponents of the two Lyapunov exponents.

Abstract:It is known that the Lyapunov exponent is not continuous at certain points in the space of continuous quasi-periodic cocycles. We show that the Lyapunov exponent is continuous for a higher-dimensional analytic category in this paper. It has a modulus of continuity of the form exp(−∣logt∣ σ ) for some 0 < σ < 1.

Abstract:For a class of volume-preserving partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms (or non-uniformly Anosov) homotopic to linear Anosov automorphism, we show that the sum of the positive (negative) Lyapunov exponents of f is bounded above (respectively below) by the sum of the positive (respectively negative) Lyapunov exponents of its linearization. We show this for some classes of derived from Anosov (DA) and non-uniformly hyperbolic systems with dominated splitting, in particular for examples described by Bonatti and Viana [SRB measures for partially hyperbolic systems whose central direction is mostly contracting. Abstract:In this paper we consider $C^{1}$ diffeomorphisms on compact Riemannian manifolds of any dimension that admit a dominated splitting $E^{cs} \oplus E^{cu}.$ We prove that if the Lyapunov exponents along $E^{cu}$ are positive for Lebesgue almost every point, then a map $f$ is non-uniformly expanding along $E^{cu}$ under the assumption that the cocycle $Df_{|E^{cu}(f)}^{-1}$ has a dominated splitting with index 1 on the support of an ergodic Lyapunov maximizing observable measure. As a result, there exists a physical SRB measure for a $C^{1+\alpha}$ diffeomorphism map $f$ that admits a dominated splitting $E^{s} \oplus E^{cu}$ under assumptions that $f$ has non-zero Lyapunov exponents for Lebesgue almost every point and that the cocycle $Df_{|E^{cu}(f)}^{-1}$ has a dominated splitting with index 1 on the support of an ergodic Lyapunov maximizing observable measure.

Abstract:Let μ + be the SBR measure on a hyperbolic attractor Ω of a C 2 Axiom A diffeomorphism (M,f) and v the volume measure on M. As is known, μ + -almost every  is Lyapunov regular and the Lyapunov characteristic exponents of (f,Df) at x are constants $\lambda^{(i)}(\mu_+,f),1\leq i\leq s$. In this paper we prove that $v$-almost every $x$ in the basin of attraction $W^s(\Omega)$ is positively regular and the Lyapunov characteristic exponents of $(f,Df)$ at $x$ are the constants . Similar results are also obtained for nonuniformly completely hyperbolic attractors.

Abstract:Let M be a compact manifold and f : M -> M be a C-1 diffeomorphism on M. If mu is an f-invariant probability measure which is absolutely continuous relative to Lebesgue measure and for mu a : e : x is an element of M; there is a dominated splitting Torb(x)M = E circle plus F on its orbit orb(x), then we give an estimation through Lyapunov characteristic exponents from below in Pesin's entropy formula, i.e., the metric entropy h(mu)(f) satisfiesh(mu)(f) >= integral chi(x)d mu,where chi(x) = Sigma(dim)(i=1) (F(x)) lambda(i)(x) and lambda(1)(x) >= lambda(2)(x) >= ... >= lambda(dim M)(x) are the Lyapunov exponents at x with respect to mu.Consequently, we obtain that Pesin's entropy formula always holds for (1) volume-preserving Anosov diffeomorphisms, (2) volume-preserving partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with one-dimensional center bundle, (3) volume-preserving diffeomorphisms far away from homoclinic tangency, and (4) generic volume-preserving diffeomorphisms.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the relation between measure expansiveness and hyperbolicity. We prove that non atomic invariant ergodic measures with all of its Lyapunov exponents positive is positively measure-expansive. We also prove that local diffeomorphisms robustly positively measure-expansive is expanding. Finally, we prove that if a $C^1$ volume preserving diffeomorphism that. can not be accumulated by positively measure expansive diffeomorphis have a dominated sppliting.

Abstract:It follows from Oseledec Multiplicative Ergodic Theorem (or Kingman's Sub-additive Ergodic Theorem) that the Lyapunov-irregular set of points for which the Oseledec averages of a given continuous cocycle diverge has zero measure with respect to any invariant probability measure. In strong contrast, for any dynamical system f : X -> X with exponential specification property and a Holder continuous matrix cocycle A : X -> GL(m, R), we show here that if there exist ergodic measures with different Lyapunov spectrum, then the Lyapunov-irregular set of A is residual (i.e., containing a dense G(delta) set). Here we point out that exponential specification is introduced and plays critical role, and it is still unknown whether specification is enough. The above result can be used not only for all mixing hyperbolic systems but also for some non-hyperbolic systems.

Abstract:The stochastic averaging method for quasi-integrable-Hamiltonian systems proposed in our previous papers is first generalized to a more general class of systems which includes quasi-linear gyroscopic systems with real-noise excitations as a special case. The expression for the largest Lyapunov exponent of the averaged equations is then formulated by using a procedure due to Khasminskii. Subsequently, the combination approach of the stochastic averaging method and Khasminskii's procedure is applied to quasi-linear gyroscopic systems with real-noise excitation. As an example, the largest Lyapunov exponent of a gyropendulum subject to random vertical support-excitation is evaluated and the approximately necessary and sufficient conditions for almost-sure asymptotic stability of the system is given.

Abstract:Under certain conditions, we construct a countable Markov partition for pointwise hyperbolic diffeomorphism on an open invariant subset , which allows the Lyapunov exponents to be zero. From this partition, we define a symbolic extension that is finite-to-one and onto a subset of O that carries the same finite f-invariant measures as O. Our method relies upon shadowing theory of a recurrent-pointwise-pseudo-orbit that we introduce. As a canonical application, we estimate the number of closed orbits for f.

Abstract:We study the class of transitive skew-products associated with iterated function systems of circle diffeomorphisms. We can approximate any transitive skew-product by maps in this class that have a robustly zero Lyapunov exponent. In particular, we prove the existence of non-hyperbolic ergodic measures for an open and dense subset of transitive skew-products. Moreover, these measures have full support and are the weak$^*$ limit of periodic measures.

Abstract:The globally positive diffeomorphisms of the 2n-dimensional annulus are important because they represent what happens close to a completely elliptic periodic point of a symplectic diffeomorphism where the torsion is positive definite. For these globally positive diffeomorphisms, an Aubry-Mather theory was developed by Garibaldi \& Thieullen that provides the existence of some minimizing measures. Using the two Green bundles G- and G+ that can be defined along the support of these minimizing measures, we will prove that there is a deep link between: -the angle between G- and G+ along the support of the considered measure m; -the size of the smallest positive Lyapunov exponent of m; -the tangent cone to the support of m.

Liao Standard Systems and Nonzero Lyapunov Exponents for Differential Flows

Abstract:Consider a $C^1$ vector field together with an ergodic invariant probability that has $\ell$ nonzero Lyapunov exponents. Using orthonormal moving frames along certain transitive orbits we construct a linear system of $\ell$ differential equations which is a reduced form of Liao's "standard system". We show that the Lyapunov exponents of this linear system coincide with all the nonzero exponents of the given vector field with respect to the given probability. Moreover, we prove that these Lyapunov exponents have a persistence property that implies that a "Liao perturbation" preserves both sign and value of nonzero Lyapunov exponents.

Abstract:We prove that for any polynomial map with a single critical point its lower Lyapunov exponent at the critical value is negative if and only if the map has an attracting cycle. Similar statement holds for the exponential maps and some other complex dynamical systems. We prove further that for the unicritical polynomials with positive area Julia sets almost every point of the Julia set has zero Lyapunov exponent. Part of this statement generalizes as follows: every point with positive upper Lyapunov exponent in the Julia set of an arbitrary polynomial is not a Lebegue density point.

Abstract:In the present paper we give a positive answer to some questions posed by Viana on the existence of positive Lyapunov exponents for Hamiltonian linear differential systems. We prove that there exists an open and dense set of Hamiltonian linear differential systems, over a suspension flow with bounded roof function, displaying at least one positive Lyapunov exponent. In consequence, typical cocycles over a uniformly hyperbolic flow are chaotic. Finally, we obtain similar results for cocycles over flows preserving an ergodic, hyperbolic measure with local product structure.
