Environmental citizenship theory and the green conversion

Abstract:This article aims to make a comparative investigation of the major issues and propositions covered by the environmental citizenship theory in the perspectives of ecological sustainability and deliberative democracy, respectively. What is clear from this analysis is that the two versions of environmental citizenship theory belong to different camps of Green theories, the former representing a sub-discipline of ecological political thoughts and the latter an expansion of traditional liberalism, though there are also some methodological and theoretical points of conjuncture between them, and to a great extent both of them can be taken as the theoretical efforts from their own points of view to promote the understanding and realization of a sustainable society.
