Abstract:We study the canonical stability of a smooth projective 3-fold V of general type. We prove that |5KV| gives a birational map onto its image provided pg ≥ 4. For those V with pg = 3, |6KV| gives a birational map. Known examples show that both the results are optimal.

Abstract:We study the canonical stability of a smooth projective 3-fold $V$ of general type. We prove that (1) $|5K_V|$ gives a birational map onto its image provided the geometric genus $p_g\geq 4$; (2) $|6K_V|$ gives a birational map provided $p_g=3$. Known examples show that both are optimal. This fact can be viewed as parallel to surface case, though people know very little on 3-folds of general type with $p_g\leq 1$.

Abstract:This paper aims to improve a theorem of Janos Kollar. For a given Complex projective threefold X of general type, suppose the plurigenus p_k(X)\ge 2, Kollar proved that the (11k+5)-canonical map is birational. Here we show that either the (7k+3)-canonical map or the (7k+5)-canonical map is birational and that the m-canonical map is stably birational for m\ge 13k+6. If P_k(X)\ge 3, then the m-canonical map is stably birational for m\ge 10k+8. In particular, the 12-canonical map is birational when p_g(X)\ge 2 and the 11-canonical map is birational when p_g(X)\ge 3.

Abstract:Nonsingular projective 3-folds $V$ of general type can be naturally classified into 18 families according to the pluricanonical section index${\it\delta}(V):=\text{min}\{m\mid P_{m}\geqslant 2\}$ since $1\leqslant {\it\delta}(V)\leqslant 18$ due to our previous series (I, II). Based on our further classification to 3-folds with ${\it\delta}(V)\geqslant 13$ and an intensive geometrical investigation to those with ${\it\delta}(V)\leqslant 12$, we prove that $\text{Vol}(V)\geqslant \frac{1}{1680}$ and that the pluricanonical map ${\rm\Phi}_{m}$ is birational for all $m\geqslant 61$, which greatly improves known results. An optimal birationality of ${\rm\Phi}_{m}$ for the case ${\it\delta}(V)=2$ is obtained. As an effective application, we study projective 4-folds of general type with $p_{g}\geqslant 2$ in the last section.

Abstract:Let $V$ be a complex nonsingular projective 3-fold of general type. We shall give a detailed classification up to baskets of singularities on a minimal model of $V$. We show that the $m$-canonical map of $V$ is birational for all $m\geq 73$ and that the canonical volume $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/2660}$. When $\chi(\mathcal{O}_V)\leq 1$, our result is $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/420}$, which is optimal. Other effective results are also included in the paper.

Abstract:Let $V$ be a complex nonsingular projective 3-fold of general type. We prove $P_{12}(V)>0$ and $P_{24}(V)>1$ (which answers an open problem of J. Kollar and S. Mori). We also prove that the canonical volume has an universal lower bound $\text{Vol}(V) \geq 1/2660$ and that the pluri-canonical map $\Phi_m$ is birational onto its image for all $m\geq 77$. As an application of our method, we prove Fletcher's conjecture on weighted hyper-surface 3-folds with terminal quotient singularities. Another featured result is the optimal lower bound $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/420}$ among all those 3-folds $V$ with $\chi({\mathcal O}_V)\leq 1$.

Abstract:We prove the following results: (1) for any nonsingular projective $3$-folds $X$ of general type with $\chi(\mathcal{O}_X)\neq 2,3$, the canonical volume $\text{Vol}(X)$ has the optimal lower bound $\frac{1}{420}$; (2) for nonsingular projective $3$-folds (resp. $4$-folds) $X$ of general type with $h^{2, 0}(X)\geq 108\cdot 42^3+4$ (resp. with sufficiently large $h^{2, 0}(X)$), the $3$-canonical map (resp. $5$-canonical map) is stably birational; (3) for any nonsingular projective $n$-fold $X$ of general type with $q(X)>n\geq 4$, the canonical stability index $r_s(X)$ is upper bounded by the $(n-1)$-th canonical stability index $r_{n-1}$.

It is often important to understand birational invariants of X such as pg(X), q(X), h2(OX) and χ(OX) etc. In this paper, we mainly study the irregularity of X.We may suppose that ∼KX∼ is free of base points. There is a natural fibration f[ratio ]X→C onto a nonsingular curve after the Stein factorization of Φ∼KX∼. Let F be a general fibre of f, then we know that F is a nonsingular projective surface of general type. Set b[ratio ]=g(C) and pg(F), q(F) for the respective invariants of F. Abstract:We work over the complex number field C. In this paper, we study multi-canonical systems |mKV | on complex projective 3-folds V of general type. On a smooth complex complete curve C of genus g(C) ≥ 2, it is well known that the 3-canonical map φ3 := Φ|3KC | is always an embedding. On a smooth minimal projective surface S of general type, Bombieri [2] proved that the m-canonical map is a birational morphism for all m ≥ 5. The work of Tsuji [31], Hacon–McKernan [13] and Takayama [28] says that there exists a universal constant r3 such that the r3-canonical map Φr3 is birational for all smooth projective 3-folds of general type. We note that Tsuji [31] announced a very large r3. Recently Chen and the first author [5] have given an explicit r3 (≤77). Under extra assumptions there have been already the following optimal results about r3 for minimal projective 3-folds X of general type with Q-factorial terminal singularities:

Abstract:In this paper we study pluricanonical maps of minimal projective 3-folds of general type with geometric genus 1, 2 and 3. We go in the direction pioneered by Enriques and Bombieri, and other authors, pinning down, for low projective genus, a finite list of exceptions to the birationality of some pluricanonical map. In particular, apart from a finite list of weighted baskets, we prove the birationality of φ_16, φ_6 and φ_5 respectively.

Abstract:This paper aims to investigate effectivity problems of pluricanonical systems on varieties of general type in positive characteristic. In practice, we will consider a sub-linear system $|S^0_{-}(X, K_X + nK_X)| \subseteq |H^0(X, K_X +nK_X)|$ generated by certain Frobenius stable sections, and prove that for a minimal terminal threefold $X$ of general type with either $q(X)>0$ or Gorenstein singularities, if $n\geq 28$ then $|S^0_{-}(X, K_X + nK_X)| \neq \emptyset$; if $n\geq 42$ then the linear system $|S^0_{-}(X, K_X + nK_X)|$ defines a birational map.
