Abstract:We study Fano threefolds that can be obtained by blowing up the three-dimensional projective space along a smooth curve of degree six and genus three. We produce many new K-stable examples of such threefolds, and we describe all finite groups that can act faithfully on them.

Abstract:In this article, we study the K-moduli space of Fano threefolds obtained by blowing up $\mathbb{P}^3$ along $(2,3)$-complete intersection curves. This K-moduli space is a two-step birational modification of the GIT moduli space of $(3,3)$-curves on $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$. As an application, we show that our K-moduli space appears as one model of the Hassett--Keel program for $\overline{M}_4$. In particular, we classify all K-(semi/poly)stable members in this deformation family of Fano varieties. We follow the moduli continuity method with moduli of lattice-polarized K3 surfaces, general elephants and Sarkisov links as new ingredients.

Abstract:The K-moduli theory provides a different compactification of moduli spaces of curves. As a general genus six curve can be canonically embedded into the smooth quintic del Pezzo surface, we study in this paper the K-moduli spaces $\overline{M}^K(c)$ of the quintic log Fano pairs. We classify the strata of genus six curves $C$ appearing in the K-moduli by explicitly describing the wall-crossing structure. The K-moduli spaces interpolate between two birational moduli spaces constructed by GIT and moduli of K3 surfaces via Hodge theory.

Abstract:The family of smooth Fano 3-folds with Picard rank 1 and anticanonical volume 4 consists of quartic 3-folds and of double covers of the 3-dimensional quadric branched along an octic surface. They can all be parametrised as complete intersections of a quadric and a quartic in the weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}(1,1,1,1,1,2)$, denoted by $X_{2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2)$; all such smooth complete intersections are K-stable. With the aim of investigating the compactification of the moduli space of quartic 3-folds given by K-stability, we exhibit three phenomena: (i) there exist K-polystable complete intersection $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$ Fano 3-folds which deform to quartic 3-folds and are neither quartic 3-folds nor double covers of quadric 3-folds - in other words, the closure of the locus parametrising complete intersections $X_{2,4}\subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2)$ in the K-moduli contains elements that are not of this type; (ii) any quasi-smooth $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$ is K-polystable; (iii) the closure in the K-moduli space of the locus parametrising complete intersections $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$ which are not complete intersections $X_{2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2)$ contains only points which correspond to complete intersections $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$.

Abstract:We prove that ideal sheaves of lines in a Fano threefold $X$ of Picard rank one and index two are stable objects in the Kuznetsov component $\mathsf{Ku}(X)$, with respect to the stability conditions constructed by Bayer, Lahoz, Macr\`i and Stellari, giving a modular description to the Hilbert scheme of lines in $X$. When $X$ is a cubic threefold, we show that the Serre functor of $\mathsf{Ku}(X)$ preserves these stability conditions. As an application, we obtain the smoothness of non-empty moduli spaces of stable objects in $\mathsf{Ku}(X)$. When $X$ is a quartic double solid, we describe a connected component of the stability manifold parametrizing stability conditions on $\mathsf{Ku}(X)$.
Moduli spaces of sheaves on Fano threefolds and K3 surfaces of genus 9

Abstract:A complex smooth prime Fano threefold $X$ of genus $9$ is related via projective duality to a quartic plane curve $\Gamma$. We use this setup to study the restriction of rank $2$ stable sheaves with prescribed Chern classes on $X$ to an anticanonical $K3$ surface $S\subset X$. Varying the threefold $X$ containing $S$ gives a rational Lagrangian fibration $$\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7) \dashrightarrow \mathbb{P}^3$$ with generic fibre birational to the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_X(2,1,7)$ of sheaves on $X$. Moreover, we prove that this rational fibration extends to an actual fibration on a birational model $\mathcal{M}$ of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$. In a last part, we use Bridgeland stability conditions to exhibit all $K$-trivial smooth birational models of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$, which consist in itself and $\mathcal{M}$. We prove that these models are related by a flop, and we describe the positive, movable and nef cones of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$.

Abstract:The moduli space of bundle stable pairs $\overline{M}_C(2,\Lambda)$ on a smooth projective curve $C$, introduced by Thaddeus, is a smooth Fano variety of Picard rank two. Focusing on the genus two case, we show that its K-moduli space is isomorphic to a GIT moduli of lines in quartic del Pezzo threefolds. Additionally, we construct a natural forgetful morphism from the K-moduli of $\overline{M}_C(2,\Lambda)$ to that of the moduli spaces of stable vector bundles $\overline{N}_C(2,\Lambda)$. In particular, Thaddeus' moduli spaces for genus two curves are all K-stable.

Abstract:We study moduli spaces of stable objects in the Kuznetsov components of Fano threefolds. We prove a general non-emptiness criterion for moduli spaces, which applies to the cases of prime Fano threefolds of index $1$, degree $10 \leq d \leq 18$, and index $2$, degree $d \leq 4$. In the second part, we focus on cubic threefolds. We show the irreducibility of the moduli spaces, and that the general fibers of the Abel--Jacobi maps from the moduli spaces to the intermediate Jacobian are Fano varieties. When the dimension is sufficiently large, we further show that the general fibers of the Abel--Jacobi maps are stably birational equivalent to each other. As an application of our methods, we prove Conjecture A.1 in [FGLZ24] concerning the existence of Lagrangian subvarieties in moduli spaces of stable objects in the Kuznetsov components of very general cubic fourfolds.

The K-moduli space of a family of conic bundle threefolds

Abstract:We describe the 6-dimensional compact K-moduli space of Fano threefolds in deformation family No 2.18. These Fano threefolds are double covers of $\mathbb P^1\times\mathbb P^2$ branched along smooth $(2,2)$-surfaces, and Cheltsov--Fujita--Kishimoto--Park proved that any smooth Fano threefold in this family is K-stable. A member of family No 2.18 admits the structures of a conic bundle and a quadric surface bundle. We prove that K-polystable limits of these Fano threefolds admit conic bundle structures, but not necessarily del Pezzo fibration structures. We study this K-moduli space via the moduli space of log Fano pairs $(\mathbb P^1\times\mathbb P^2, c R)$ for $c=1/2$ and $R$ a $(2,2)$-divisor, which we construct using wall-crossings. In the case where the divisor is proportional to the anti-canonical divisor, the first author, together with Ascher and Liu, developed a framework for wall crossings in K-moduli and proved that there are only finitely many walls, which occur at rational values of the coefficient $c$. This paper constructs the first example of wall-crossing in K-moduli in the non-proportional setting, and we find a wall at an irrational value of $c$. In particular, we obtain explicit descriptions of the GIT and K-moduli spaces (for $c \leq 1/2$) of these $(2,2)$-divisors. Furthermore, using the conic bundle structure, we study the relationship with the GIT moduli space of plane quartic curves.

K-stability of special Gushel-Mukai manifolds

Abstract:Gushel-Mukai manifolds are specific families of $n$-dimensional Fano manifolds of Picard rank $1$ and index $n-2$ where $3\leq n \leq 6$. A Gushel-Mukai $n$-fold is either ordinary, i.e. a hyperquadric section of a quintic Del Pezzo $(n+1)$-fold, or special, i.e. it admits a double cover over the quintic Del Pezzo $n$-fold branched along an ordinary Gushel-Mukai $(n-1)$-fold. In this paper, we prove that a general special Gushel-Mukai $n$-fold is K-stable for every $3\leq n\leq 6$. Furthermore, we give a description of the first and last walls of the K-moduli of the pair $(M,cQ)$, where $M$ is the quintic Del Pezzo fourfold (or fivefold) and $Q$ is an ordinary Gushel-Mukai threefold (or fourfold). Besides, we compute $\delta$-invariants of quintic Del Pezzo fourfolds and fivefolds which were shown to be K-unstable by K. Fujita, and show that they admit Kähler-Ricci solitons.

Abstract:We explore connections between existence of $\Bbbk$-rational points for Fano varieties defined over $\Bbbk$, a subfield of $\mathbb{C}$, and existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics on their geometric models. First, we show that geometric models of del Pezzo surfaces with at worst quotient singularities defined over $\Bbbk\subset\mathbb{C}$ admit (orbifold) Kähler--Einstein metrics if they do not have $\Bbbk$-rational points. Then we prove the same result for smooth Fano 3-folds with 8 exceptions. Consequently, we explicitly describe several families of pointless Fano 3-folds whose geometric models admit Kähler-Einstein metrics. In particular, we obtain new examples of prime Fano 3-folds of genus $12$ that admit Kähler--Einstein metrics. Our result can also be used to prove existence of rational points for certain Fano varieties, for example for any smooth Fano 3-fold over $\Bbbk\subset\mathbb{C}$ whose geometric model is strictly K-semistable.

Abstract:Ross and Thomas introduced the concept of slope stability to study K-stability, which has conjectural relation with the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metric. This paper presents a study of slope stability of Fano manifolds of dimension $n\geq 3$ with respect to smooth curves. The question turns out to be easy for curves of genus $\geq 1$ and the interest lies in the case of smooth rational curves. Our main result classifies completely the cases when a polarized Fano manifold $(X, -K_X)$ is not slope stable with respect to a smooth curve. Our result also states that a Fano threefold $X$ with Picard number 1 is slope stable with respect to every smooth curve unless $X$ is the projective space.

Abstract:We prove that the alpha invariant of a quasi-smooth Fano 3-fold weighted hypersurface of index $1$ is greater than or equal to $1/2$. Combining this with the result of Stibitz and Zhuang \cite{SZ19} on a relation between birational superrigidity and K-stability, we prove the K-stability of a birationally superrigid quasi-smooth Fano 3-fold weighted hypersurfaces of index $1$.

Abstract:This four-pages note is an invitation to explore explicit K-stability for arbitrary Kähler classes of low dimension and low rank spherical varieties. We apply our simple combinatorial criterion of K-stability of rank one spherical varieties to the example of the blowup of the product of two copies of the projective planes along the diagonal, and obtain strong indication that it admits cscK metrics in every Kähler classes.
