Abstract:We study Fano threefolds that can be obtained by blowing up the three-dimensional projective space along a smooth curve of degree six and genus three. We produce many new K-stable examples of such threefolds, and we describe all finite groups that can act faithfully on them.

Abstract:The family of smooth Fano 3-folds with Picard rank 1 and anticanonical volume 4 consists of quartic 3-folds and of double covers of the 3-dimensional quadric branched along an octic surface. They can all be parametrised as complete intersections of a quadric and a quartic in the weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}(1,1,1,1,1,2)$, denoted by $X_{2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2)$; all such smooth complete intersections are K-stable. With the aim of investigating the compactification of the moduli space of quartic 3-folds given by K-stability, we exhibit three phenomena: (i) there exist K-polystable complete intersection $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$ Fano 3-folds which deform to quartic 3-folds and are neither quartic 3-folds nor double covers of quadric 3-folds - in other words, the closure of the locus parametrising complete intersections $X_{2,4}\subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2)$ in the K-moduli contains elements that are not of this type; (ii) any quasi-smooth $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$ is K-polystable; (iii) the closure in the K-moduli space of the locus parametrising complete intersections $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$ which are not complete intersections $X_{2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2)$ contains only points which correspond to complete intersections $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$.

Abstract:Ross and Thomas introduced the concept of slope stability to study K-stability, which has conjectural relation with the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metric. This paper presents a study of slope stability of Fano manifolds of dimension $n\geq 3$ with respect to smooth curves. The question turns out to be easy for curves of genus $\geq 1$ and the interest lies in the case of smooth rational curves. Our main result classifies completely the cases when a polarized Fano manifold $(X, -K_X)$ is not slope stable with respect to a smooth curve. Our result also states that a Fano threefold $X$ with Picard number 1 is slope stable with respect to every smooth curve unless $X$ is the projective space.

Abstract:We explore connections between existence of $\Bbbk$-rational points for Fano varieties defined over $\Bbbk$, a subfield of $\mathbb{C}$, and existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics on their geometric models. First, we show that geometric models of del Pezzo surfaces with at worst quotient singularities defined over $\Bbbk\subset\mathbb{C}$ admit (orbifold) Kähler--Einstein metrics if they do not have $\Bbbk$-rational points. Then we prove the same result for smooth Fano 3-folds with 8 exceptions. Consequently, we explicitly describe several families of pointless Fano 3-folds whose geometric models admit Kähler-Einstein metrics. In particular, we obtain new examples of prime Fano 3-folds of genus $12$ that admit Kähler--Einstein metrics. Our result can also be used to prove existence of rational points for certain Fano varieties, for example for any smooth Fano 3-fold over $\Bbbk\subset\mathbb{C}$ whose geometric model is strictly K-semistable.

Higher dimensional moduli spaces on Kuznetsov components of Fano threefolds

Abstract:We study moduli spaces of stable objects in the Kuznetsov components of Fano threefolds. We prove a general non-emptiness criterion for moduli spaces, which applies to the cases of prime Fano threefolds of index $1$, degree $10 \leq d \leq 18$, and index $2$, degree $d \leq 4$. In the second part, we focus on cubic threefolds. We show the irreducibility of the moduli spaces, and that the general fibers of the Abel--Jacobi maps from the moduli spaces to the intermediate Jacobian are Fano varieties. When the dimension is sufficiently large, we further show that the general fibers of the Abel--Jacobi maps are stably birational equivalent to each other. As an application of our methods, we prove Conjecture A.1 in [FGLZ24] concerning the existence of Lagrangian subvarieties in moduli spaces of stable objects in the Kuznetsov components of very general cubic fourfolds.

On the Futaki invariant of Fano threefolds

Abstract:We study the zero locus of the Futaki invariant on K-polystable Fano threefolds, seen as a map from the Kähler cone to the dual of the Lie algebra of the reduced automorphism group. We show that, apart from families 3.9, 3.13, 3.19, 3.20, 4.2, 4.4, 4.7 and 5.3 of the Iskovskikh-Mori-Mukai classification of Fano threefolds, the Futaki invariant of such manifolds vanishes identically on their Kähler cone. In all cases, when the Picard rank is greater or equal to two, we exhibit explicit 2-dimensional differentiable families of Kähler classes containing the anti-canonical class and on which the Futaki invariant is identically zero. As a corollary, we deduce the existence of non Kähler-Einstein cscK metrics on all such Fano threefolds.

Abstract:We analyse the local structure of the K-moduli space of Fano varieties at a toric singular K-polystable Fano 3-fold, which deforms to smooth Fano 3-folds with anticanonical volume 28 and Picard rank 4. In particular, by constructing an algebraic deformation of this toric singular Fano, we show that the irreducible component of K-moduli parametrising these smooth Fano 3-folds is a rational surface.

Abstract:We prove the existence of Kahler-Einstein metric on a K-stable Fano manifold using the recent compactness result on Kahler-Ricci flows. The key ingredient is an algebro-geometric description of the asymptotic behavior of Kahler-Ricci flow on Fano manifolds. This is in turn based on a general finite dimensional discussion, which is interesting in its own and could potentially apply to other problems. As one application, we relate the asymptotics of the Calabi flow on a polarized Kahler manifold to K-stability assuming bounds on geometry.

Abstract:We prove that the alpha invariant of a quasi-smooth Fano 3-fold weighted hypersurface of index $1$ is greater than or equal to $1/2$. Combining this with the result of Stibitz and Zhuang \cite{SZ19} on a relation between birational superrigidity and K-stability, we prove the K-stability of a birationally superrigid quasi-smooth Fano 3-fold weighted hypersurfaces of index $1$.

Abstract:We describe the 6-dimensional compact K-moduli space of Fano threefolds in deformation family No 2.18. These Fano threefolds are double covers of $\mathbb P^1\times\mathbb P^2$ branched along smooth $(2,2)$-surfaces, and Cheltsov--Fujita--Kishimoto--Park proved that any smooth Fano threefold in this family is K-stable. A member of family No 2.18 admits the structures of a conic bundle and a quadric surface bundle. We prove that K-polystable limits of these Fano threefolds admit conic bundle structures, but not necessarily del Pezzo fibration structures. We study this K-moduli space via the moduli space of log Fano pairs $(\mathbb P^1\times\mathbb P^2, c R)$ for $c=1/2$ and $R$ a $(2,2)$-divisor, which we construct using wall-crossings. In the case where the divisor is proportional to the anti-canonical divisor, the first author, together with Ascher and Liu, developed a framework for wall crossings in K-moduli and proved that there are only finitely many walls, which occur at rational values of the coefficient $c$. This paper constructs the first example of wall-crossing in K-moduli in the non-proportional setting, and we find a wall at an irrational value of $c$. In particular, we obtain explicit descriptions of the GIT and K-moduli spaces (for $c \leq 1/2$) of these $(2,2)$-divisors. Furthermore, using the conic bundle structure, we study the relationship with the GIT moduli space of plane quartic curves.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth Fano threefold over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. Assume that $|-K_X|$ is very ample and each of the index and the Picard number is equal to one. We prove that $3 \leq g \leq 12$ and $g \neq 11$ for the genus $g$ of $X$. Moreover, we show that there exists no smooth curve on $X$ along which the blowup is Fano.
