A Wide Speed Range Doubly-Fed Motor Drive System

Abstract:Some shortcomings,like limited variable speed range and starting current impact exist in traditional doubly-fed motor drive system. A hybrid drive system based on DFIM is presented. During the starting and low-speed range,the stator windings are short-circuited and the DFIM system is operated in variable frequency drive mode supplied by rotor side;in high-speed range,the motor works in doubly-fed mode,so wide variable speed range can be achieved. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the system starts smoothly and can satisfy the requirement of fan or pump type load.
