Abstract:In architecture,the term of architectural surface is not a stiff idea,making it difficult to be reflected on. The development of the concept of architectural surface was tried to trace, contemporary architectural surface practice was described, and the achievements and shortcomings of contemporary architectural theory was summed up,and the structural concept of architectural surface system was defined,with the consideration of contemporary architectural characteristics.The object of architectural surface study was expanded by the concept of architectural system which includes all the components involved in the image presentation or the function of envelope and reflects the relationship between the components of contemporary architectural surface better.

Abstract:Surface, as an expressive method of the architecture, has become a hot topic of architectural theorists in recent years. In this paper, followed the skin evolution, strive to explore the different periods, the changes of the relationship between the surface and architectural. As well as in different roles, the skin comes out different characteristics. Analyze the evolution of characteristics of the architectural surface from its historical trace contribute to a more profound understanding of the reasons for the changes.

Abstract:With the advancement in technology and coming of information era,the development of architecture surface is in an unprecedented flourishing situation,characteristics of the skin becomes a direct reflection of architectural features.A softening trend occurs in eco-building skins.The occurrence of this trend is based on science and undergone a rational thought.By borrowing botanical science and hidden building body mass,fuzzy boundaries of architecture and environment;by borrowing physical science to create a complex surface skin,it is softened the interface between the architecture and environment;by borrowing bionics theory,it is simulated biological skin texture,thus reducing the differences in manual architectures and environment.Using perfect ecologic architectural form to promote ecology has gradually become a new creation mode.

Abstract:The research extracted a part of the teaching accomplishment, sur ounding with the interior and exterior space of “Takatori Paper Church” of Shigeru Ban, firstly introducing the constructed background and basic situation that it had been built as an experimental architecture after the earthquake; then interpreting the spatial order and constitute principle by inducing and teasing the spatial limited elements, program, and circulation;and lastly analyzed and concluded the four characteristics of the paper church: orientation, fluidity, gradual change, and hierarchy.

Abstract:Japanese Architecture in the 1990s is a part should not be neglected in global architecture stage. Abstract:Contemporary architectural design is flourishing in China,and new structural design concepts and techniques for the construction brings a lot of inspirations and creative thinking into architectural design.However,there are also architectural works with unreasonable yet costly structure system,which considers no historical context and makes negative impact on the creativity of today's architectural design.On the other hand,following foreign architectural masterpieces blindly exerts a strong influence on Chinese market and this phenomenon raises academic concern.Therefore,it is necessary to recognize the inherent nature of how the internal structural elements of a building deliver the living expression of the external artistic representaiton.This study attempts to remind domestic architects to adhere to the sound structural principles in the creative design process to achieve artistic impact with value,quality and performance.Through the study of artistic architectural design of historical meaning and its contribution to the progress of civilization,the modern masterpieces which have achieved the balance of technical and artistic expression,can be further investigated and analyzed.The authors call for an objective evaluation framework be developed to illustrate the interaction of such "technical" and "artistic" expressions,which architects may apply in their creative design process to contribute a higher level of harmony to our living environment.

Abstract:There are great differences between architectural design and structural design in the aspects of thinking mode and design objective. The design of practical projects always develops along with compromise between the two professions. This working pattern is not considered as an effective way for structures in taking its good effects in architectural design, and may probably lead to waste. Penetration of contemporary digital technologies in architectural industry makes it possible for the architectural and structural design to be integrated on the digital platform. In the 2014 Tsinghua parametric design workshop, forms of folding plate structure are explored along with the teaching process of Grasshopper. Form generation and structural simulation are carried out on the Grasshopper platform. Laser cutting and 3D printing technologies are also employed in elements fabrication. This article introduces the technical issues and thinking related to this experimental project.
