Abstract:For a two spin-1 particles system, we derive a new Bell's type inequality for local hidden variables model. For the singlet state for two spin-1 particles, we show that the inequality is violated while it is satisfied for the direct product state.

Abstract:It is generally believed that Bell's inequality holds for the case of entangled states, including two correlated particles or special states of a single particle. Here, we derive a single-particle Bell's inequality for two correlated spin states at two successive times, appealing to the statistical independence condition in an ideal experiment, for a locally causal hidden variables theory. We show that regardless of the locality assumption, the inequality can be violated by some quantum predictions.

It is a direct and meaningful extension of that presented by A. Cabello [Phys. Rev. A67 (2003) 032107] and the proof from A. Cabello is included in our proof as a special example.

Abstract:We perform a detailed analysis of the possible violation of various Bell-type inequalities for systems of vector boson-antiboson pairs. Considering the general case of an overall scalar state of the bipartite system, we identify two distinct classes of such states, and determine the joint probabilities of spin measurement outcomes for each them. We calculate the expectation values of the CHSH, Mermin and CGLMP inequalities and find that while the generalised CHSH inequality is not expected to be violated for any of the scalar states, in the case of the Mermin and CGLMP inequalities the situation is different -- these inequalities can be violated in certain scalar states while they cannot be violated in others. Moreover, the degree of violation depends on the relative speed of the two particles.

Abstract:Choosing four entangled states to form an orthogonal and complete basis for a two-particle system, we argue that a local hidden variable model should give the probability of each entangled state if the two-particle system is described by a mixed state, Under these conditions, a Bell inequality is derived for the Werner states, and a nonlocality proof can be given for nonsequential measurements.

Abstract:Recently, it was found that Mermin's inequalities may not always be optimal for the refutation of a local realistic description [Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 210402 (2002)]. To complete this work, we derive an inequality for the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-type pure state for a system with N spin-1/2 particles and the violation of the inequality can be shown for all the non product pure states. Mermin's inequality for a system of N spin-1/2 particles and Gisin's theorem for a system of two spin-1/2 particles are both included in our inequality.

Abstract:We show that a single Bell's inequality with two dichotomic observables for each observer, which originates from Hardy's nonlocality proof without inequalities, is violated by all entangled pure states of a given number of particles, each of which may have a different number of energy levels. Thus Gisin's theorem is proved in its most general form from which it follows that for pure states Bell's nonlocality and quantum entanglement are equivalent.

Abstract:We generalize Bell's inequalities to biparty systems with continuous quantum variables. This is achieved by introducing the Bell-operator in perfect analogy to the usual spin-1/2 systems. It is then demonstrated that two-mode squeezed vacuum states display quantum nonlocality by using the generalized Bell operator. In particular, the original Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen states, which are the limiting case of the two-mode squeezed vacuum states, can maximally violate Bell's inequality due to Clauser, Horne, Shimony, and Holt. The experimental aspect of our scheme is briefly considered.

Abstract:We show that in one-dimensional isotropic Heisenberg model two-qubit thermal entanglement and maximal violation of Bell inequalities are directly related with a thermodynamical state function, i.e., the internal energy. Therefore they are completely determined by the partition function, the central object of thermodynamics. For ferromagnetic ring we prove that there is no thermal entanglement at any temperature. Explicit relations between the concurrence and the measure of maximal Bell inequality violation are given.

Abstract:The violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality for bipartite systems is discussed by making use of the pseudospin operators which enable us to group all modes of the Hilbert space of the system in pairs. We point out that a single pair can be already employed to perform a test of the Bell-CHSH inequality in order to check out its violation. The mechanism is illustrated with the help of N 00 N states as well as with coherent and squeezed states.

Abstract:For the case of two spin-1/2 particles in the singlet state, we provide a GHZ-type proof of Bell's theorem by using the idea of postselected measurements. Furthermore, we show that in spite of the low efficiency of the detectors one can derive an inequality in the case of real experiments which is violated by quantum mechanics.

Abstract:The conceptually puzzling features of quantum mechanics as a statistical theory all have their source in the impossibility of relating the probability assignments defined by the quantum state to distributions over determinate values of the physical magnitudes. While some interpretations of quantum mechanics, as well as “hidden variable” modifications of the theory, have proposed several constructions for assigning values to magnitudes (beyond the value assignments defined by the quantum state alone), a variety of theorems exist which impose severe restrictions on such theoretical constructions. This note will deal with Bell's proof (in [2]), that any hidden variable theory satisfying a physically reasonable locality condition is characterized by an inequality which is inconsistent with the quantum statistics. Bell's result has initiated a series of experiments designed to refute the entire class of local hidden variable theories. We show that Bell's inequality actually characterizes a feature of hidden variable theories which is much weaker than locality in the sense considered physically motivated.

Abstract:In this Letter, we study the quantum nature of non-Bunch–Davies states in de Sitter space by evaluating CHSH inequality on a localized two-atom system. We show that quantum nonlocality can be generated through the Markovian evolution of two-atom, witnessed by a violation of CHSH inequality on its final equilibrium state. We find that the upper bound of inequality violation is determined by different choices of de Sitter-invariant vacua sectors. In particular, with growing Gibbons–Hawking temperature, the CHSH bound degrades monotonously for Bunch–Davies vacuum sector. Due to the intrinsic correlation of non-Bunch–Davies vacua, we find that the related violation of inequality can however drastically increase after certain turning point, and may persist for arbitrarily large environment decoherence. This implies that the CHSH inequality is useful to classify the initial quantum state of the Universe. Finally, we clarify that the witnessed intrinsic correlation of non-Bunch–Davies vacua can be utilized for quantum information applications, e.g., surpassing the Heisenberg uncertainty bound of quantum measurement in de Sitter space.

Abstract:A. Peres constructed an example of particles entangled in the state of spin singlet. He claimed to have obtained the CHSH inequality and concluded that the violation of this inequality shows that in a measurement in which some variables are tested, other variables, not tested, have no defined value. In the present paper is proved that the correct conclusion of the violation of the CHSH inequality is different. It is proved that the classical calculus of probabilities of test results, obeying the Kolmogorov axioms, is unfit for the quantum formalism, dominated by probability amplitudes.

Abstract:We generalize the correlation functions of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality to multipartite d-dimensional systems. All the Bell inequalities based on this generalization take the same simple form as the CHSH inequality. For small systems, numerical results show that the new inequalities are tight and we believe this is also valid for higher-dimensional systems. Moreover, the new inequalities are relevant to the previous ones and, for bipartite systems, our inequality is equivalent to the Collins-Gisin-Linden-Masser-Popescu inequality.

Abstract:A systematic approach is presented to construct non-homogeneous two- and three-qubit Bell-type inequalities. When projector-like terms are subtracted from homogeneous two-qubit CHSH polynomial, non-homogeneous inequalities are attained and the maximal quantum mechanical violation asymptotically equals a constant with the subtracted terms becoming sufficiently large. In the case of three-qubit system, it is found that most significant three-qubit inequalities presented in literature can be recovered in our framework. We aslo discuss the behavior of such inequalities in the loophole-free Bell test and obtain corresponding thresholds of detection efficiency.
