Abstract:We explore a variant of the zeta function interpolating the Bernoulli numbers based on an integral representation suggested by J. Jensen. The Bernoulli function $\operatorname{B}(s, v) = - s\, \zeta(1-s, v)$ can be introduced independently of the zeta function if it is based on a formula first given by Jensen in 1895. We examine the functional equation of $\operatorname{B}(s, v)$ and its representation by the Riemann $\zeta$ and $\xi$ function, and recast classical results of Hadamard, Worpitzky, and Hasse in terms of $\operatorname{B}(s, v).$ The extended Bernoulli function defines the Bernoulli numbers for odd indices basing them on rational numbers studied by Euler in 1735 that underlie the Euler and André numbers. The Euler function is introduced as the difference between values of the Hurwitz-Bernoulli function. The André function and the Seki function are the unsigned versions of the extended Euler resp. Bernoulli function.

Abstract:Let B-n(t) be the nth Bernoulli polynomial. We show that B-p-1(a/q) - B-p-1 = q(U-p-1)/2p (mod p), where U-n is a certain linear recurrence of order [q/2] which depends only on a, q and the least positive residue of p (mod q). This can be re-written as a sum of linear recurrence sequences of order less than or equal to phi(q)/2, and so we can recover the classical results where phi(q) less than or equal to 2 (for instance, B-p-1(1/6) - B-p-1 = (3(p)-3)/2p+(2(p)-2)/p (mod p)). Our results provide the first advance on the question of evaluating these polynomials when phi(q) > 2, a problem posed by Emma Lehmer in 1938.

Abstract:It is well known that the Bernoulli polynomials $\mathbf{B}_n(x)$ have nonintegral coefficients for $n \geq 1$. However, ten cases are known so far in which the derivative $\mathbf{B}'_n(x)$ has only integral coefficients. One may assume that the number of those derivatives is finite. We can link this conjecture to a recent conjecture about the properties of a product of primes satisfying certain $p$-adic conditions. Using a related result of Bordellès, Luca, Moree, and Shparlinski, we then show that the number of those derivatives is indeed finite. Furthermore, we derive other characterizations of the primary conjecture. Subsequently, we extend the results to higher derivatives of the Bernoulli polynomials. This provides a product formula for these denominators, and we show similar finiteness results.

Abstract:Let be a random variable whose moment generating function exists in a neighborhood of the origin. The aim of this paper is to introduce and study the probabilistic extension of Bernoulli polynomials and Euler polynomials, namely the probabilistic Bernoulli polynomials associated and the probabilistic Euler polynomials associated with . Also, we introduce the probabilistic -Stirling numbers of the second associated , the probabilistic two variable Fubini polynomials associated , and the probabilistic poly-Bernoulli polynomials associated with . We obtain some properties, explicit expressions, certain identities and recurrence relations for those polynomials. As special cases of , we treat the gamma random variable with parameters , the Poisson random variable with parameter , and the Bernoulli random variable with probability of success .

Abstract:This is a collection of definitions, notations and proofs for the Bernoulli numbers $B_n$ appearing in formulas for the sum of integer powers, some of which can be found scattered in the large related historical literature in French, English and German. We provide elementary proofs for the original convention with ${\mathcal B}_1=1/2$ and also for the current convention with $B_1=-1/2$, using only the binomial theorem and the concise Blissard symbolic (umbral) notation.

Abstract:By using the associated and restricted Stirling numbers of the second kind, we give some generalizations of the poly-Bernoulli numbers. We also study their arithmetical and combinatorial properties. As an application, at the end of the paper we present a new infinite series representation of the Riemann zeta function via the Lambert $W$.

Abstract:We investigate the Stern polynomials defined by $B_0 ( t ) =0,B_1 ( t ) =1$, and for $n \geq 2$ by the recurrence relations $B_{2n}( t) =tB_{n}( t) ,$ $B_{2n+1}( t) =B_n( t) +B_{n+1}( t) $. We prove that all possible rational roots of that polynomials are $0,-1,-1/2,-1/3$. We give complete characterization of $n$ such that $deg( B_n) = deg( B_{n+1}) $ and $deg( B_n) =deg( B_{n+1}) =deg( B_{n+2}) $. Moreover, we present some result concerning reciprocal Stern polynomials.
