Co-funding Hiring Model Facilitating Interdisciplinary Research at Pennsylvania State University

Abstract:Pennsylvania State University adopts a model of co-funding hiring to facilitate interdisciplinary research.This paper takes the co-funding policy between The Children,Youth,and Families Consortium(CYFC) and 5 colleges as an example to introduce the specific procedure of this hiring model,which includes setting down research funding areas,admitting proposals by colleges and departments,the committee reviewing those proposes,the dean of colleges searching co-funded position teachers and implementing co-funding hiring.In addition,the paper also introduces the evaluation of this hiring policy,which is developing with the employing activity in a parallel way.The paper concludes that this kind of hiring policy is characterized by "being easy to engraft and likely to survive",and proposes that some preferential policies for faculty in interdisciplinary research should be initiated in promotion.
