Abstract:A facile and convenient method has been developed to prepare N-doped TiO2 visible light nanocatalysts, which is performed by a solid-state calcination of one-dimensional titanate nanotubes with an inorganic ammonium salt (NH4Cl). The ion-exchange reaction between layered nanotubes and NH4Cl contributes to the phase transition to crystalline TiO2 combined with N doping. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy are carried out to study the phase evolution, compositions, and morphologies of obtained samples. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveals that the N dopant in TiO2 is assigned to the interstitial NHx species. Both the phase transition and N doping are further confirmed by UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra. All N-doped TiO2 materials exhibit significantly higher visible light activities than that of the parent nanotubes for degrading rhodamine B. In addition, the N-doped TiO2 nanocatalyst holds a strong stability and durability for the removal of organic pollutions.

Abstract:TiO2/SnO2 nanonecklace‐structured hybrid nanofibers have been prepared via an electrospinning method. These hybrid nanofibers are characterized with SnO2‐rich beads and pure TiO2 chains. It is found that TiO2 in the beads shows a rutile structure, and the one in the chains is entirely composed of anatase phase. This novel microstructure enhanced the photocatalytic activity, as well as its ideal recyclable character. We believe that this fire‐new type of nanofiber may potentially serve as a new generation photocatalyst in environmental remediation.

Abstract:Because of the high specific surface area and enhanced charge migration, TiO2 with unique belt-like nanostructures finds promising applications in various fields such as photocatalysis, dye-sensitized solar cells, gas sensors, and Li-ion batteries. In the current study, a solution combustion procedure was firstly adopted to prepare a black water-proof precursor. The black precursor interacted with H2O2 at ambient temperature, achieving a precursor solution that is capable of fabricating hydrogen titanate (H2Ti2O5·H2O) nanobelt arrays on metallic Ti substrates at 60 °C. Subsequent calcination in air at 400 °C achieved arrays of ultrathin anatase TiO2 nanobelts of ca. 2–4 nm in thickness. The addition of nickel nitrate in the combustion solution achieved the Ni-doping into the resultant TiO2 nanobelts, which did not alter the nanobelt structure but significantly reduced the band gap from 3.2 eV to 2.9 eV. When compared with the commonly alkali-hydrothermal synthesized anatase TiO2 nanobelts, the present ultrathin nanobelts exhibited much improved photocatalytic activity when utilized to assist photodegradation of rhodamine B in water. The ultrathin nanobelt structure is believed to contribute to the high specific surface area, the much reduced charge migration path, and the enhanced charge transport along the longitudinal direction. The appropriate Ni-doping further enhanced the photocatalytic performance, because of the increased light harvesting efficiency and reduced charge recombination.

Abstract:The V-doped TiO2 nanoparticles were successfully prepared by sol-gel method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-vis spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy respectively. It is found that doping V can shift the absorption edge to the visible light region and decrease the recombination of photo-induced electron-hole pairs. Then the photo-absorption and photocatalytic activity were greatly improved. The optimal doping concentration is 0.5% due to synergetic effect of the recombination of electron-hole pairs and adsorption of dyes molecules at the surface of samples.

Abstract:Enhanced visible-light-driven photocatalysis of TiO(2) nanofibers have been prepared by the electrospinning method combined with a surface nitridation process. The visible-light-driven photo-catalytic activity of surface nitrided TiO(2) (N-TiO(2)) nanofibers has been evaluated using rhodamine B indicator, and it was found that the visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity of the electrospun TiO(2) nanofibers could be enhanced by nitridation in NH(3) atmosphere. The optimal visible-light photocatalytic activity of N-TiO(2) nanofibers exceeded that of pure TiO(2) nanofibers by a factor of more than 12. The nitridation temperature under NH(3) flow was found to play an important part in the performance of N-TiO(2) nanofibers, and the optimum temperature is 500 °C. Structure, morphology and photoluminescence of these nanofibers were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The mechanism of the enhancement of visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity by surface nitridation has been discussed.

Abstract:In this work, the N-doped TiO2/C composite is successfully prepared using electrospinning technique. TEM, XPS and Raman techniques are used to characterize the morphologies and microstructure of the as-fabricated composite, confirming that the incorporation of N into TiO2/C can not only reduce the d-spacing of TiO2 nanocrystals, but also can transform it into another TiO2 crystal form. Furthermore, amorphous carbon in this composite can be transferred to graphite under the effect of TiO2 during calcination processes. The N-doped TiO2/C sample with variable pore sizes exhibit the largest specific surface area, and the crystal forms of TiO2 are close related to the value of specific surface area and the pore sizes.

Abstract:Mesoporous and nanostructured Fe-doped TiO2 fibers were fabricated on a large scale by sol-gel method combined with the polyorganotitanium as the precursor and ferric nitrate as dopant. The prepared fibers were characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, N-2 adsorption-desorption isotherms and UV-vis spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by photodegradation of methyl orange (MO) aqueous solution under UV and visible-light irradiation. Compared with different types of photocatalysts, the 0.5%Fe-doped TiO2 fibers exhibit super photocatalytic activity. This is ascribed to the fact that the Fe-doping induces the shift of the absorption edge into the visible-light range with the narrowing of the band gap and reduces the recombination of the photo-generated electrons and holes. Furthermore, first-principle study for their electronic structures was carried out to confirm the effects of different replaced lattice sites on the red shift of the absorption edge and the changes of the band gap of the Fe-doped TiO2 fibers. Abstract:N-doped TiO2 fiber membranes were prepared by electrospinning method and adsorptive chitosan was added as a nitrogen source. The obtained TiO2 fiber membranes were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that the film has adsorption properties; furthermore, the morphology of the TiO2 fiber with a chitosan content of 0.5 g after calcination provides the best catalytic performance; An anatase–rutile titania was found in the oxidized fiber film found in the Raman spectrum TiO2; XPS demonstrated that the introduction of chitosan could replace N atom with partial lattice oxygen in TiO2. Moreover, the degradation rate of methylene blue of the material was about 60–80% after 4-h reaction, and the maximum degradation rate was achieved by nanofiber film with chitosan concentration of 0.5 g.

Abstract:Using TiCl_4,O_2 and NH_3 as the precursors,N-doped titanium dioxide films were prepared by APCVD.According to the results from SEM,X-ray diffraction(XRD) and the UV-VIS absorption spectrum,it is found that a new phase of Ti_4O_7 is formed in the thin film after nitrogen doping and the crystal transformation from anatase to rutile is inhibited.As well,a red drift of the absorption edge from 365.8nm to 402.6nm exists in the N-doped TiO_2 films and the visible-light induced photocatalysis and hydrophilicity are both enhanced.

Abstract:Titania (TiO 2 ) nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning three representative spin dopes made of titanium (IV) n -butoxide (TNBT) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) with the TNBT/PVP mass ratio being 1/2 in three solvent systems including N,N -dimethylformamide (DMF), isopropanol, and DMF/isopropanol (1/1 mass ratio) mixture, followed by pyrolysis at 500 °C. The detailed morphological and structural properties of both the as-electrospun precursor nanofibers and the resulting final TiO 2 nanofibers were characterized by SEM, TEM, and XRD. The results indicated that the precursor nanofibers and the final TiO 2 nanofibers made from the spin dopes containing DMF alone or DMF/isopropanol mixture as the solvent had the common cylindrical morphology with diameters ranging from tens to hundreds of nanometers, while those made from the spin dope containing isopropanol alone as the solvent had an abnormal concave morphology with sizes/widths ranging from sub-microns to microns. Despite the morphological discrepancies, all precursor nanofibers were structurally amorphous without distinguishable phase separation, while all final TiO 2 nanofibers consisted of anatase-phased TiO 2 single-crystalline grains with sizes of approximately 10 nm. The electrospun TiO 2 nanofiber mat is expected to significantly outperform other forms (such as powder and film) of TiO 2 for the solar cell (particularly dye-sensitized solar cell) and photo-catalysis applications.

Abstract:TiO2/Co2+ composite nanofibers were prepared by using the electrospun fibers of PVP/ Ti (OiPr)4/Co (NO3)2 composite as precursor, and through calcination treatment. The chemical components, structures and morphology were characterized by TGA, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, respectively. The photocatalytic activities of the catalysts were investigated by photocatalystic degradation of Rhodamine B under visible-light irradiation. It was found that the TiO2/Co2+ composite nanofibers calcined at 600 °C which was the anatase phase, showed higher photocatalytic activities than those calcined at other two temperatures. This result was expected as a new morphology of photocatalysts to degrade the organic pollutants in the sun.

Abstract:Three-dimensional hierarchical nanostructures with carefully designed constructing units are promising for photocatalysts because of their improved light harvesting capability, enlarged specific surface area, increased active sites, and more rapid charge migration. In this paper, nanostructured thin films of belt-on-belt hierarchical TiO2 were fabricated on metallic Ti substrates for photocatalytic applications. Arrays of anatase TiO2 nanobelts on Ti substrates were firstly achieved by an alkali-hydrothermal approach. A wet-chemistry route based on solution combustion synthesis was then adopted to cover the nanobelt trunk with branches of ultra-thin hydrogen titanate nanobelts, which decomposed to anatase TiO2 upon a subsequent air calcination. When utilized to assist photodegradations of rhodamine B in water under the illumination of a Xe lamp, the hierarchical TiO2 exhibited averagely a 13% increase in the efficiency when compared with the pristine TiO2 nanobelts. The Ni-doping in the branches further improved the photocatalytic activity, which is 1.5 times that of the pristine TiO2 nanobelts. The present belt-on-belt hierarchical TiO2 thin films with carefully controlled compositions and nanostructures are thus of potential interest in photocatalysis.

Abstract:The solid, hollow, and tube-in-tube porous nanofiber structures of TiO(2) are synthesized successfully by a simple non-coaxial electrospinning method without using a complicated coaxial jet head, combined with adjusting the concentration of the TiO(2) precursor and the pinhole diameter of the jet head and by final calcination. The formation mechanisms of different structured TiO(2) fibers are discussed in detail. This method is facile and effective, and easy to scale up. Furthermore, it is a versatile method for constructing tube-in-tube fibers of other metal oxides such as ZrO(2) , SiO(2) , SnO(2) , and In(2) O(3) . The photocatalytic activity of tubular TiO(2) nanofibers for the degradation of 2-chlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol under UV or visible-light irradiation is better than the one of commercial available TiO(2) powder, rutile, and anatase TiO(2) fibers.

Abstract:TiO2 nanofibers with controllable diameters have been successfully fabricated by a facile electrospinning method. Their crystal structure and morphology features were monitored by X‐ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanofibers was evaluated by the photodecomposition of rhodamine B aqueous solution. It was found that the diameter of the nanofibers, controlled by changing the tetrabutyl titanate content in the precursor solution, plays an important role on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanofibers. There is an optimal value of diameter on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanofibers, which increases with the increasing of fiber diameter up to about 200 nm and then decreases. The mechanism may relate to the dynamics of electron/hole recombination on surface sites.

Abstract:N-TiO2/Ni(OH)2 nanofiber was successfully prepared by combining the electrospinning and solvothermal method. It has been found that under visible light irradiation, the as-obtained nanofiber exhibits excellent activity for the photodegradation of rhodamine B, and the average degradation rate reaches 3.1%/min−1. Further insight investigations reveal that such a high activity was mainly due to the heterostructure-induced increase in the charge transfer rate and separation efficiency.

Abstract:The formulation of optoelectronic components into 1D nanostructures allows the promotion of new materials with multifunctionalities. In this work, it is demonstrated that new synthesis of photocatalytic carbon nanofiber decorated with semi-embedded titanium oxide (TiO2), namely, TiO2@carbon fiber, is conveniently accessed through the electrospinning of polyacrylonitrile polymer and TiO2 particle comixture, and then followed by photon-activated self-erosion to expose the embedded TiO2 and carbonization. The hybrid nanofibers are characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. Furthermore, the photocatalytic activities of the resultant fibers are tested with photodegradation of Rhodamine B in aqueous solution, which reveals that the carbon nanofiber with semi-embedded TiO2 drastically improved catalytic efficiency and recyclability, comparing to those fibers without or with embedded TiO2.

Abstract:TiO 2 /VO x nanofibers were synthesized via electrospinning and dipping technologies. They increased the photocatalytic property by reducing the recombination rate of electrons and holes at the surface of TiO 2 . The composition, structure and morphology were characterized. The effect of annealing temperature to the dendritic structure and their photocatalytic property were demonstrated. The results showed dendritic TiO 2 /VO x nanofiers were obtained via dipping in vanadium sol, which was annealed at 550°C in 90% Ar/10% H 2 atmosphere. The average diameter of the samples was 354±42nm. Both the size and the number of dendritic structure were increased as the annealing temperature was rising. The degradation rate of methyl orange (5mg/L) by as-prepared TiO 2 /VO x nanofibers was 76.4% after exposure under UV light for 120min, which was 25.7% higher than which annealed in air atmosphere.
