Effects of Different Pollinating Varieties and Pollination Methods on Fruit Set and Quality of Cuiguan Pear under Plastic Culture

Abstract:Effects of different pollination methods and pollinating cultivars on fruit setting rate and quality of Cuiguan pear growing in plastic greenhouse were studied.The results showed that the fruit setting rate was the highest and could reach 96% when pollinated artificially.In addition,artificial pollination increased fruit size and the number of fully developed seeds.Fruit setting rates were 69.2% and 50.1%,respectively,when pollinated with 100× and 250× pollen suspensions.Other quality indicators were not significantly changed among different pollination methods except that the fruit weight under the treatment of 250× pollen suspension decreased significantly.Xuehua pear was a good pollinator for greenhouse grown Cuiguan pear for resulting in a high fruit setting rate,large fruit size and high soluble solid content and high TSS/TA ratio.
