Abstract:Procrastination is a widespread issue. The late return of library books is a manifestation of procrastination, resulting in fines that impact the overall user experience at the library. Overdue or lost books can disrupt the library’s circulation services and affect the satisfaction of other patrons’ book needs. This study analyzes overdue readers at Nanjing Normal University Library from 2012 to 2023, examining factors such as the frequency of overdue incidents, borrowing habits, instances of book loss, duration of overdue periods, and the gender and background of the readers. The findings from path analysis suggest that the accumulation of fines is a deterrent for overdue behavior by influencing borrowing habits and serving as a warning against procrastination. Structural equation modeling analysis reveals a positive correlation between reader self-regulation and overdue attitudes, negatively impacting book circulation. Additionally, the study observes the application of the law of large numbers to the occurrence of book overdue, with a weak correlation between overdue incidents and instances of book loss.

Abstract:As an emerging way of the publishing,Publishing on Demand brings many positive impacts on authors,publishers and libraries,at the same time,there are two kinds of discorder in Publislhing on Demand: one is in publishing on demand of the dissertation,the other is in Publishing on Demand of the Wikipedia.The library field should take measures to improve the quality of the acquisition for foreign language books,avoid the disorder in publishing on demand,it includes improving information literacy levels of acquisition librarians of foreign language books,strengthening the communication among peers,using the on-site book selection method,and so on.

Abstract:A reasonable design of borrowing policy helps to regulate the reader's reading behavior and improve the use of the collections of a library,to meet the needs of different readers.By investigating and analyzing the borrowing privileges of some Chinese and America's famous university libraries,this paper compares the borrowing privileges in aspects of types setting of reader,documents type,borrowing item number and duration and overdue fines rule.It puts forward recommendations by acting on international standards,to improve the management level and service level,to reasonably develop the subdivision standards,as well as clear punitive measures,and to improve the utilization of literature.

Abstract:Peking University Library owns a rich collection of 1.5 million copies of ancient books, being the third large collection among libraries in China and the largest among China's university libraries. For various reasons, some of ancient books have been in bad disrepair. It is not only a dangerous situation for the precious ancient documents to pass on, but also an interference with teaching and research in the university. Based on the years of experience as staff of Rare Books Department, the authors have made an analysis on the reasons of bad condition of ancient books and the conservation problems such as the preservation condition, management, shortage of funds and training technical personnel for conservation. Then they offer helpful suggestions to solve the problems.

Abstract:With the continuous improvement of China's social and economic level, education, especially college education, has been highly valued by people and has achieved certain results. For the development of colleges and universities, library construction is an important part of it and to a certain extent promotes the stable development of colleges and universities. Judging from the actual development of domestic university libraries, many university libraries have gradually entered the path of socialized service. Due to the profound influence of traditional education mode and test-oriented education concept, many university libraries in China are currently developing socialization. There are some problems that need to be solved in the service work process. The existence of these problems makes many domestic university libraries unable to play their own roles and individual values, and it also seriously affects the rapid development of China's college education. Abstract:Most of the public libraries in China provide charge services at present,however,this measure goes against the further development of the public libraries,because the public libraries are the public welfare service organizations.Therefore,it's necessary for public libraries to freely open.China should take measures from the perspective of society,governments,libraries and readers for the public libraries' free opening on basic services.All sectors of the community should raise funds to cope with the issue of funding for public libraries through various channels;the Government should make use of legal means to protect the supply of funds to the public libraries;the library should create a regional consortium of public libraries in order to promote public libraries free of charge;the readers need to improve the utilization rate of literature resources in order to avoid wasting public resources.
