Abstract:In the light of the problem of the information network communication rights of digital resources and the copy issue in the construction of digital resources, this paper analyzes library’s wrong understanding of the copyright, and puts forward some principles and basic measures of protecting the copyright by the library, and makes clear what works can be confirmed as the ones of the independent intellectual property rights of the library.

Abstract:Using h-index as a reference to study reader's reading tendency,and the data of books in circulation as samples,this paper calculates the h indexes of different sorts of books,and based on the indexes obtained to make a research on the readers' reading tendency. The outcome of the research shows that the application of h- index method is of great use in analyzing and assessing the distributions and values of books of different subjects,thus it can provide a theoretical basis for the optimization of the information collection of libraries.

Abstract:The change of five years of public libraries of Hengyang City reflects the development of grass-roots public libraries in China . Change and development mainly is manifested in the following aspects:The Party committee and government has increased awareness and emphasis of the development of public library cause;library premises have been improved;service equipments and computers have entered Internet age;library fund has guarantee;services have expanded,service ability has been raised;service efficiency has improved. Faced new problems in the following aspects:library outlay is insufficient;building service system to become strong central library;the total fund and fund structure;library staff development and election of director;service efficiency and sustainable development;rural reading room and public library. In order to develop the county level public library we must seek the way to solve new problems.

Abstract:Reading promotion is a key service of the public library. This article investigates the current state of reading promotion in public libraries in China. There were 86 public libraries chosen as a sample. The research finds that Chinese libraries have been paying more and more attention to the importance of reading promotion. A variety of reading promotion services and programs are being carried out, including reading festivals, booklists, reading contests, reading communication and lectures on reading. Public libraries tend to apply more towards the digital platform when promoting reading. Public libraries have cooperated with NGO and business fields to promote reading. This study suggests more can be done to improve the service, including improving the librarian's knowledge of genre books, enhancing reading communication, deeply investigating measurement of reading promotion, and the influence of contracting out reading programs.

Abstract:Digital reading promotion service is a service way for libraries to provide readers with a series of digital resources, enjoy the service functions, and share the experience of using them in various digital reading platforms, which is to meet the reading interests and reading needs of more readers, and is also the focus of the current library work. In the era of new media, the characteristics of digital reading are subtly changing the readers’ needs for reading environment, reading content, and reading style. Libraries should keep pace with the development of the times and provide readers with diversified, intelligent, and targeted digital reading platforms. The digital reading platform should continuously improve the digital reading service functions, broaden the service scope and dissemination channels, and finally realize the diversification, interest, and intelligence of digital reading service. This paper takes the digital reading platform of libraries in the region as the research theme and carries out research work on libraries. The province is divided into three regions according to the geographical map: southeastern region, central region, and northwestern region. The digital reading platforms of 14 prefecture-level public libraries and 58 libraries of higher education institutions in each region were accessed. Firstly, we check the construction of digital resources within the library websites, secondly, we count the opening of digital reading platform functions, and finally, we check the opening of digital reading platforms. Through the research, it is found that there are problems of unbalanced distribution of digital reading resources in regional libraries; unattractive design of readers’ interface and inadequate reading service functions; lack of continuous training of readers’ guidance; insufficient publicity and promotion; low efficiency of staff in responding to consultation; and low degree of platform openness and weak awareness of sharing. Finally, the problems found in the research are summarized, and the solution measures for the regional digital reading platform are proposed. Libraries in the digital era should give priority to systems that can manage all library resources comprehensively and effectively, adapt to more flexible library workflows, and enable libraries to provide better services to users.

Abstract:In order to investigate the reading and public library utility condition of the elderly,the author conducted a questionnaire survey among 205 older adults in 5 districts in Beijing,300 older adults in 5 villages of Zhushan county,Hubei province.According to the results,the elderly mainly regard reading as a way for leisure,and they pay less time and money for reading.Besides,their reading situation is affected by education,income and job to some extent.The elderly show passive and restrictive characteristics in reading.They are affected by a lot of factors and spare little time and money in reading.While in public library utility,though public library has certain status in life of the elderly,in general,their cognition and utilization degree are on the low side.Therefore,public library should improve themselves in layout,resource,facilities and service,in which library should pay more attention to the elderly.

Abstract:PurposeIn this paper, the authors propose an effective mechanism for the protection of digital library readers' lending privacy under a cloud environment.Design/methodology/approachThe basic idea of the method is that for each literature circulation record, before being submitted to the untrusted cloud database of a digital library for storage, its reader number has to be encrypted strictly at a client, so as to make it unable for an attacker at the cloud to know the specific reader associated with each circulation record and thus protect readers' lending privacy. Moreover, the authors design an effective method for querying the encrypted literature circulation records, so as to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of each kind of database queries related to the encrypted reader number field of literature circulation records.FindingsFinally, both theoretical analysis and experimental evaluation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.Originality/valueThis paper presents the first study attempt to the privacy protection of readers' literature circulations, which can improve the security of readers' lending privacy in the untrusted cloud, without compromising the accuracy and efficiency of each kind of database queries in the digital library. It is of positive significance to construct a privacy-preserving digital library platform.

Abstract:Private libraries in China—most of which were created by bottom-up processes, not top-down government mandates—offer a diversity of services to a range of constituencies. They offer individuals space for reading and study, information exchange, interpersonal communication, IT training, amusement, recreation, and entertainment. They offer schools and communities an aggregated abundance of social resources in a learning-centered atmosphere, which in turn enhances school- and community-based cooperation. For society as a whole, they offer support for the elimination of "knowledge poverty," and a boost for public service and civil society. Thus they function, to some degree, as community informatization commons and community-based public space.
