Abstract:We discuss Iitaka's theory of quasi-Albanese maps in details. We also give a detailed proof of Kawamata's theorem on the quasi-Albanese maps for varieties of the logarithmic Kodaira dimension zero. Note that Iitaka's theory is an application of Deligne's mixed Hodge theory for smooth algebraic varieties.

Abstract:We study the birational geometry of varieties of maximal Albanese dimension in this article. Given a non-birational, generically finite, and surjective morphism f : X → Y between varieties of maximal Albanese dimension, we show that the plurigenera P m ( X ) and P m ( Y ) for some m ≥ 2 could be equal only in very restrictive situations. We also prove that the 5-th pluricanonical map of a variety of maximal Albanese dimension always induces the Iitaka model.

Abstract:Cette these se compose de deux parties independantes. Dans la premiere partie, j'etudie les varietes irregulieres et en particulier les varietes de dimension d'Albanese maximale. Pour une variete X generale irregulieres, je donne une condition optimale sur les plurigenres P_m(X) pour que le morphisme d'Albanese soit surjectif et j'obtiens aussi une condition (plus restrictive) toujours optimale sur P_m(X) pour que le morphisme d'Albanese soit un espace fibre algebrique. Pour une variete de dimension d'Albanese maximale, avec quelques hypotheses supplementaires sur P_m(X) et q(X), je decris (birationnellement) sa structure geometrique. Puis j'etudie les morphismes entre les varietes de dimension d'Albanese maximale. Je fais aussi une remarque sur un travail de Chen et Hacon (Pareschi et Popa) pour montrer que, pour une variete de dimension d'Albanese maximale, I6K_XI induit un modele de sa tlbration d'Iitaka. Dans la seconde partie, j'etudie un probleme tres concret : la structure du cone nef du produit symetrique d'une courbe generique. Il y a un Theoreme interessant de Kouvidakis sur ce probleme. J'utilise une approche par degenerescence pour etudier ce probleme. L'ingredient principal est une idee de Ein et Lazarsfeld qu'ils ont utilisee pour etudier les constantes de Seshadri. J'ameliore le theoreme de Kouvidakis.

Abstract:We study the structure of the Albanese map for Kähler manifolds with nef anticanonical bundle. First, we give a result for fourfolds whose Albanse torus is an elliptic curve. In the general case of any dimension, we look at two cases: The general fiber of the Albanese map is a Calabi-Yau manifold or a projective space. In the first case, we show that the manifold itself must be Calabi-Yau. In the second case, we give a more topological proof of a result by Cao and Höring which says that the manifold must be a projectivization of a numerically flat vector bundle.

Abstract:Written with a view toward applications in hyperbolicity, rational points, and entire curves, this paper addresses the problem of constructing Albanese maps within Campana's theory of C-pairs (or "geometric orbifolds"). It introduces C-semitoric pairs as analogs of the (semi)tori used in the classic Albanese theory and follows Serre by defining the Albanese of a C-pair as the universal map to a C-semitoric pairs. The paper shows that the Albanese exists in relevant cases, gives sharp existence criteria, and conjectures that a "weak Albanese" exists unconditionally.

Abstract:Assume that f : X → Y is a surjective generically finite morphism between smooth projective varieties of general type. In general, it is difficult to conclude any birational property of f from the plurigenera of X and Y . Abstract:We study the Albanese image of a compact Kähler manifold whose geometric genus is one. In particular, we prove that if the Albanese map is not surjective, then the manifold maps surjectively onto an ample divisor in some abelian variety, and in many cases the ample divisor is a theta divisor. With a further natural assumption on the topology of the manifold, we prove that the manifold is an algebraic fiber space over a genus two curve. Finally we apply these results to study the geometry of a compact Kähler manifold which has the same Hodge numbers as those of an abelian variety of the same dimension.

Abstract:We show that for each algebraic space that is separated and of finite type over a field, and whose affinization is connected and reduced, there is a universal morphism to a para-abelian variety. The latter are schemes that acquire the structure of an abelian variety after some ground field extension. This generalizes classical results of Serre on universal morphisms from algebraic varieties to abelian varieties. Our proof relies on corresponding facts for the proper case, together with the structural properties of group schemes, removal of singularities by alterations, and ind-objects. It turns out that the formation of the Albanese variety commutes with base-change up to universal homeomorphisms. We also give a detailed analysis of Albanese maps for algebraic curves and algebraic groups, with special emphasis on imperfect ground fields.

Abstract:We show that in positive characteristic, the Albanese morphism of normal proper varieties $X$ with $\kappa_S(X, \omega_X) = 0$ is separable, surjective, has connected fibers, and the generic fiber $F$ also satisfies $\kappa(F, \omega_F) = 0$. As a corollary, we deduce a new case of Iitaka's subadditivity conjecture for fibrations over abelian varieties, when the generic fiber has non-nilpotent Hasse-Witt matrix.

Abstract:Given a bounded constructible complex of sheaves on a complex Abelian variety, we prove an equality relating the cohomology jump loci of and its singular support. As an application, we identify two subsets of the set of holomorphic 1-forms with zeros on a complex smooth projective irregular variety X ; one from Green-Lazarsfeld's cohomology jump loci and one from the Kashiwara's estimates for singular supports. This result is related to Kotschick's conjecture about the equivalence between the existence of nowhere vanishing global holomorphic 1-forms and the existence of a fibre bundle structure over the circle. Our results give a conjecturally equivalent formulation using singular support, which is equivalent to a criterion involving cohomology jump loci proposed by Schreieder. As another application, we reprove a recent result proved by Schreieder and Yang; namely if X has simple Albanese variety and admits a fibre bundle structure over the circle, then the Albanese morphism cohomologically behaves like a smooth morphism with respect to integer coefficients. In a related direction, we address the question whether the set of 1-forms that vanish somewhere is a finite union of linear subspaces of . We show that this is indeed the case for forms admitting zero locus of codimension 1.

Abstract:We explore the relationship between fibrations arising naturally from a surjective morphism to an abelian variety. These fibrations encode geometric information about the morphism. Our study focuses on the interplay of these fibrations and presents several applications. Then we propose a generalization of the Iitaka conjecture which predicts an equality of Kodaira dimension of fibrations, and prove it when the base is a smooth projective variety of maximal Albanese dimension.

Abstract:In this note we studied the primitive varieties of general type with $q(X) = dim(X)$ and non-birational bicanonical maps. Let $X$ be such a variety. We bounded the degree of its bicanonical map. If moreover the Albanese variety $Alb(X)$ is simple, we proved that the Euler number $\chi(\omega_X) = 1$, and $|2K_X|$ separates the points mapped to the same general point via the Albanese map.

Abstract:We give an alternate proof of the main theorem of Kawamata's paper: Pluricanonical systems on minimal algebraic varieties. Our proof also works for varieties in class $\mathcal C$. We note that our proof is completely different from Kawamata's.

Abstract:We first state a condition ensuring that having a birational map onto the image is an open property for families of irreducible normal non uniruled varieties. We give then some criteria to ensure general birationality for a family of rational maps, via specializations. Among the applications is a new proof of a result obtained jointly with Luca Cesarano: that, for a general pair $(A,X)$ of an (ample) Hypersurface $X$ in an Abelian Variety $A$, the canonical map $\Phi_X$ of $X$ is birational onto its image if the polarization given by $X$ is not principal. The proof is also based on a careful study of the Theta divisors of the Jacobians of Hyperelliptic curves, and some related geometrical constructions. We investigate these here also in view of their beauty and of their independent interest, as they lead to a description of the rings of Hyperelliptic theta functions.

Abstract:Albanese varieties provide a standard tool in algebraic geometry for converting questions about varieties in general, to questions about Abelian varieties. A result of Serre provides the existence of an Albanese variety for any geometrically connected and geometrically reduced scheme of finite type over a field, and a result of Grothendieck--Conrad establishes that Albanese varieties are stable under base change of field provided the scheme is, in addition, proper. A result of Raynaud shows that base change can fail for Albanese varieties without this properness hypothesis. In this paper we show that Albanese varieties of geometrically connected and geometrically reduced schemes of finite type over a field are stable under separable field extensions. We also show that the failure of base change in general is explained by the L/K-image for purely inseparable extensions L/K.
