Abstract:To reduce cost, risk and time, the bottle-necks and design flaws of interrupt latency, computing speed, memory, interface and communication in a complicated high power electric drive system have to be found by virtual test platform before actual test. This paper describes a real-time simulation platform for virtual test of electrical drives. A framework of decoupling discrete event and continuous time systems is proposed. A Simulink based library of real-time models is set up. By using dSPACE environment, the real-time C codes for controller, sensor and controlled systems model can be directly generated, compiled, linked, downloaded to and executed in the target hardware. With two-timer task mode, the real-time simulation is performed within the frame time of 15-20 us for AC drives, that verified the validity of the proposed models. Having the real-time hardware interface to actual system, the real-time simulation system can be directly connected to actual controller or actual inverter-motor-sensor system for hardware-in-the-loop applications as well as for rapid control prototyping. The virtual test platform is suitable to test and training of high power electrical drives at general-purpose laboratories.
