Prior to receiving Ph.D. degree from City University of Hong Kong,he obtained the bachelor's degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His research interests mainly focus on thermal management,boiling heat transfer enhancement,and heat/mass transfer in renewable energy systems. He has published more than 20 research papers in peer-reviewed journals.Bing Tan is an Associate Professor at the School of Nuclear Science and Technology,Harbin Engineering University. He has been honored with selection for the Guangdong Province International Youth Excellent Researcher Development Program and inclusion in the Military's High-level Scientific and Technological Innovation Talent Project as an "Emerging Academic Talent". With over 30 publications to his credit,his research focuses on nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics and safety,boiling/condensation phase change and heat transfer enhancement,and the instability of two-phase flow.Jiyun Zhao is currently a Professor with Department of Mechanical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong,Hong Kong,China. He received the Ph.D. degree from Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005. From 2005 to 2010,he was a Senior Nuclear Engineer with AREVA NP,Lynchburg,VA,USA. From 2010 to 2014,he was an Assistant Professor with Nanyang Technological University,Singapore. He joined City University of Hong Kong as an Associate Professor from 2015 to 2022. His research interests include multiscale boiling and condensation,supercritical fluids,multiphase flow and heat transfer,nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics,battery energy storage and energy conversion. He has published more than 170 research outputs over the years. He was in "2022 World's top 2% scientists list" by Stanford University. He is now the associate editor of Heat Transfer Engineering and Case Studies in Thermal Engineering.

Abstract:To combat climate change and the subsequent detrimental impacts, the international community reached the historic Paris Agreement in 2015, which set long-term goals to guide nations worldwide to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. It has served as a catalyst for the global decarbonization effort and has spurred an innovative metamorphosis of energy frameworks toward low-carbon and zero-carbon alternatives. Since then, the adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power has gained considerable momentum, with a view to diminishing our reliance on fossil fuels. High-efficiency energy conversion and storage systems including lithium-ion batteries, thermal storage, nuclear power have also attracted much attention from all over the world.
