Abstract:A novel ladder form rib-ring type of spherical reticulated shell is put forward in the present paper. There are only circular members on the upper chord and only radial members on the lower chord. A triangular shear-force key composed of a horizontal and a vertical paunch bar connects the upper and the lower chord. Automatically parametric modeling of their lattices is given out in details. Structural performance of this kind of reticulated shells are analyzed and summarized. Comparison with corresponding single-layer reticulated shells is also carried out. Ladder form rib-ring type of reticulated shells in application to a practical roof system of Jiangyin swimming arena comes true.

Abstract:Two new types of interdigital capacitors (IDC) are proposed to be used in a novel Composite Right/Left-Handed Transmission Line (CRLH-TL) structure. The LC parameters of the traditional and novel IDC are respectively extracted for comparisons with Ansoft HFSS9 full-wave simulation. In contrast with traditional structure, such two new IDC enhance the capacitance values dramatically by about 38.7% and 100%, respectively, compared with the traditional structure within the same size of etched area. Also dispersion relationships are calculated by both simulation and Bloch theorem. A one dimension (1-D) CRLH-TL structure consisting of such new IDC and meandering grounded inductors is designed, modeled and simulated. The presented structure is able to operate within a much lower and wider Left-handed (LH) frequency band than traditional ones.

Abstract:The forming-free (FF) and forming-required (FR) resistive switching behaviors of Pt/TaOx/Pt structures were analyzed. Changes in the length and shape of the conducting filaments (CFs) suggested different evolution processes in the FF and FR cells when the CFs grew from weaker filaments to stronger ones. In the FR cells, the filament changed from a conical shape to a cylindrical shape with no change in length. Abstract:Few‐walled carbon nanotube (FWCNT) is composed of a few coaxial shells of CNTs with different diameters. The shells in one tube can slide relatively to each other under external forces, potentially leading to regulated electrical properties, which has never been explored due to experimental difficulties. In this work, w e studied the electromechanical response induced by inter‐shell sliding of individual CNTs and revealed the linear electrical current variation for the first time. Based on centimeter‐long FWCNTs grown through chemical vapor deposition, controllable and reversible inter‐shell sliding w as realized while simultaneously recording the electrical current. Reversible and linear current variation with inter‐shell sliding w as observed, which is in consistent with o ur proposed inter‐shell tunneling model. Further, w e developed a silk fibroin‐assisted transfer technique for long CNTs and realized the fabrication of FWCNT‐based flexible devices. Tensile stress can be applied on the FWCNTs@silk film encapsulated in elastic silicone to induce inter‐shell sliding and thus controlled electrical current, which w as demonstrated to serve as a new human‐machine interface with high reliability. Besides, w e foresee that the electromechanical behaviors induced by inter‐layer sliding in 1D nanotubes may also be extended to 2D layered materials, shedding new light on the fabrication of novel electronics. Abstract:A new dual chip GCT (Dual-GCT) structure with short transparent anode and corrugated p base region is presented based on a traditional Dual-GCT in this paper. The structural features and operation principle of the new device are analyzed, and the characteristics are studied by ISE simulator. Influences of high temperature on the characteristics are discussed. The research results that the new device has better high temperature blocking and conducting characteristics due to corrugated p base region, and better turn-off characteristics due to short transparent anode compared with the traditional Dual-GCT.

Abstract:A compact bilateral single conductor surface wave transmission line (TL) is proposed, converting the quasi-transverse electromagnetic (QTEM) mode of low characteristic impedance slotline into the transverse magnetic (TM) mode of single-conductor TL. The propagation constant of the proposed TL is decided by geometric parameters of the periodic corrugated structure. Compared to conventional transitions between coplanar waveguide (CPW) and single-conductor TLs, such as Goubau line (G-Line) and surface plasmons TL, the proposed structure halves the size and this feature gives important potentials to develop integrated surface wave devices and circuits. The designed structure, sample fabrication and experimental verification are discussed.

Abstract:The China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) is a new tokamak device whose magnet system includes toroidal field, central solenoid (CS) and poloidal field coils. The main goal is to build a fusion engineering tokamak reactor with about 1 GW fusion power and self-sufficiency by blanket. In order to reach this high performance, the magnet field target is 15 T. However, the huge electromagnetic load caused by high field and current is a threat for conductor degradation under cycling. The conductor with a short-twist-pitch (STP) design has large stiffness, which enables a significant performance improvement in view of load and thermal cycling. But the conductor with STP design has a remarkable disadvantage: it can easily cause severe strand indentation during cabling. The indentation can reduce the strand performance, especially under high load cycling. In order to overcome this disadvantage, a new design is proposed. The main characteristic of this new design is an updated layout in the triplet. The triplet is made of two Nb3Sn strands and one soft copper strand. The twist pitch of the two Nb3Sn strands is large and cabled first. The copper strand is then wound around the two superconducting strands (CWS) with a shorter twist pitch. The following cable stages layout and twist pitches are similar to the ITER CS conductor with STP design. One short conductor sample with a similar scale to the ITER CS was manufactured and tested with the Twente Cable Press to investigate the mechanical properties, AC loss and internal inspection by destructive examination. The results are compared to the STP conductor (ITER CS and CFETR CSMC) tests. The results show that the new conductor design has similar stiffness, but much lower strand indentation than the STP design. The new design shows potential for application in future fusion reactors.

Abstract:A new concept of semi-bianisotropic conductivity is put forward based on modularization design. Half of the material has dual anisotropic conductivity while the other half has single anisotropic conductivity by adjusting areas of the two surfaces endowed with anisotropic conductivity and vertically arranged up to down. Semibianisotropic conductive Janus-structure membrane affording magnetism and fluorescence (SCMF) is prepared by constructing three blocks via electro-spinning. Three blocks, including C-R block (top), M-G block and C-R block (down), are assembled into SCMF. Janus-structure nanobelts are selected as building units to gain micro zoning. Modular structure further prevents negative interactions among various functional substances. SCMF has bicolor luminescence and variable magnetism. SCMF gains tuned semi-bianisotropic conductivity, where the area of C-R block (top) with single conductive aeolotropism is half of C-R block (down) with single conductive aeolotropism, so half of SCMF has double conductive aeolotropism and other half of SCMF has single conductive aeolotropism.

Abstract:Achieving high thermal conductivity in rigid liquid crystal-based units without compromising their super-flexibility is challenging. A strategy tacking synergistic enhancement of hydrogen bonds and liquid crystal main chains to form a multidimensional cross-linking network structure is proposed. An intrinsically thermally conductive shape memory polymers with ultra-high strength, ultra-high toughness, low-temperature resistance and wear resistance were obtained. It can lift up to 10,000 times its own weight (10 kg), has a bending radius of even 0.99 mm and remains super-flexible at-190 degrees C, achieving an unprecedented damage tolerance for ther-mosetting resins and laying the foundation for its foldability. We regulate the spherical crystal size by the solvent-induced self-assembly method, achieving an intrinsic thermal conductivity of 1.2 W/m & sdot;K. We took inspiration from the bionic structure of earwig wings combined with a crease vanishing function to apply high-aspect-ratio deployment structures in aerospace, achieving compatibility between deformation and load bearing.

Abstract:We propose a new type of high temperature superconducting (HTS) conductor concept: modularized conductors (MC) connected by Chinese traditional tenon mortise (TM) connection structure, reffered as TMMC. The conductor consists of multiple concentric round sub conductors with slots for stacking REBCO tapes. Innovatively, the REBCO stacks in the adjacent sub conductors are arranged with the fully misaligned configuration to enhance the critical current' s isotropy with respect to magnetic field and reduce ac loss. For example, the angle between the adjacent stacks in the two adjacent sub conductors is 45 degree if each subconductor contains 4 REBCO stacks. In order to construct the fully misaligned configuration, the sub conductors are designed with two open half circular formers and connected by tenonmortise structure which makes the conductor modulrized and simply to assembly and disassembly. Based on the design concept, a prototype conductor containing 160 REBCO tapes distributed in the four concentric sub conductors is fabricated. The conductor measured critical current is 13.69 kA at 77 K and sefl field, which is consistent to the simulaiton result. In order to further improve the TMMC' s engineering critical current density (Jce) and bending performance, we propose two enhancement approaches which are reducing the former' s thickness and rearrange stacks in the outer sub conductors. With the enhancements, both TMMC' s radius and Jce are comparable to the existing slotted core conductor. The study shows the TMMC' s advantages of nontwisted structures, easy assembly, high current carrying and low ac losses, which makes it promising for constructing large scale scientific devices.

Abstract:Carbon fiber composites as pantograph slide materials are in the development stage, in which copper is the conductive phase, and the addition form and size need to be designed. Herein, the effects of the copper morphology, the size of the copper mesh on the performance, and the influence of the contact mode between the sliding plate and bracket on the temperature rise were compared and analyzed. The resistivity is 11.2 μΩ·m with the addition of 20 wt% copper mesh, a relative reduction of 91.77%. Importantly, the impact strength is increased by 14.19%, and the wear is reduced by 13.21%; hence, the copper mesh laid in layers is the ideal structure. Further study of the distribution and quality of the copper mesh shows that the resistivity is related only to the quality of the copper mesh; in addition, the number of layers of the copper mesh cannot exceed 16, and it is determined that the best type of copper mesh is 5#. Notably, the performance can be improved by appropriately reducing the thickness of the copper mesh and increasing the aperture while the sliding plate and the bracket are connected by copper mesh with conductive adhesive, which has the slowest heating rate of 2.27 °C/min and the smallest resistance. Therefore, the influence of copper content and distribution on the electrical conductivity are systematically investigated, and the mechanical properties and electrical conductivity are optimized through the design of the laminate structure of the compound material.

Abstract:Compared to single functional materials, multifunctional materials with electrical conduction, magnetism, and luminescence are more attractive and promising, so it has become an important subject. A distinctive sandwich-type composite film (STCF) with dual-color up- and down-conversion luminescence, magnetism, and aeolotropic conduction is prepared by layer-by-layer electrospinning technology. Macroscopically, STCF is assembled by three tightly bonded layers, including a [polypyrrole (PPy)/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)]//[NaYF:Yb, Er/PMMA] Janus nanobelt array layer as the first layer, a CoFeO/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofiber nonarray layer as the second layer, and a NaGeF:Mn/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofiber nonarray layer as the third layer. This unique macropartition effectually confines conductive aeolotropy, magnetism, and luminescence in different layers. Microscopically, a Janus nanobelt is used as a construction unit to restrict the luminescent and conductive materials to their microregions, thus achieving highly conductive aeolotropy and green luminescence. The high integration of the micro-subarea and macro-subarea in the STCF can efficaciously avoid the mutual disadvantageous effects among different materials to obtain splendid polyfunctional performance. The conductive anisotropy and magnetism of the STCF can be adjusted by changing the contents of PPy and CoFeO. When the PPy content reaches 70%, the conductance ratio in the conductive direction to insulative direction is 10. The 2D STCF can be crimped by four different methods, and the 3D TWTs have the same excellent polyfunctional performances as 2D STCF. This unique design idea and construction technology can be applied to the preparation of other multifunctional materials to avoid harmful interference among various functions.

Abstract:Bending-active weaving structure made of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) rods is a reliable approach to the substantiation of free-form geometry. This paper presents the design and construction process of an architectural scale self-standing grid shell, the geometrical prototype of which is the Mobius strip. Coherent to the features of Mobius strip, the loop-like structure twisted all along the way with high curvature, which challenged both the design and assembly session. For the first time a double-layer weaving pattern was adopted by our team to utilize the synergy of two layers of bending rods and thus to improve the structures performance.
