Abstract:The research status on refrigerant substitute for the freeze and cold storage system is reviewed.Based on this,a new ternary non-azeotropic mixture of HFC-161/HFC-125/HFC-143a(15/45/40) as a promising mixed refrigerant to HFC-404A is presented.The ODP of the new refrigerant is zero and its basic thermodynamic properties are similar to those of HFC-404A,and its GWP is much smaller than that of R507A or HFC-404A.The cycle performance between the new mixture refrigerant and HFC-404A is theoretically analyzed and compared.The results show that the cycle performance and environmental performance of the new mixture refrigerant are better than those of HFC-404A.The new mixture refrigerant may be a promising alternative refrigerant for HFC-404A.

Abstract:The heat-driven auto-cascade absorption refrigeration cycle can be used at low temperatures, and a novel auto-cascade absorption refrigeration system is proposed to gain better performances with a refrigerating temperature as low as -50 degrees C. The new system uses a mixture of R23 + R32 + R134a/DMF as its working pair and its characteristic study is carried out under different operational conditions. It has successfully obtained a refrigerating temperature of -47.2 degrees C under the generating temperature of 163 degrees C. This refrigerating temperature is far lower than that of a traditional absorption refrigeration system with the same working pair, and it is also lower than that of an auto-cascade absorption refrigeration system using R32 + R134a/DMF as its working pair. From the experimental results, it is clearly seen that this new system shows.a rapider lowering rate of refrigerating temperature than that of an auto-cascade absorption refrigeration system using R23 + R134a/DMF as its working pair. The results of experimental analyses imply that this new absorption refrigeration system can be used in the deep-freezing as low as -50 degrees C by utilizing low-potential thermal power. Its potential of industrial application might be greater than that of an auto-cascade absorption refrigeration system using R23 + R134a/DMF as its working pair in the future. Abstract:R32 has superior environmental performance,such as ODP is zero,GWP is less than that of R410A,etc.It has been gradually recognized to have potential to substitute R410A.Carries out the experimental study on the cycle performances of R410A and R32.The results show that the pressure ratios are almost the same,the compressor power consumption of R32 are slightly higher than that of R410A,the refrigerating capacity is slightly superior to that of R410A and their COP are very close,but the discharge temperature of R32 is higher than that of R410A under different working conditions.In a word,R32 has good thermophysical properties and friendly environmental performance,which make it as a potential alternative refrigerant to R410A.

Abstract:A new heat-driven absorption refrigeration system for deep freezing as low as -20 - -40°C was proposed in the paper. The refrigerant of R32 + R134a mixture and absorbent of DMF were used as its working fluids. The characteristics of the system were investigated under different operation conditions. The system utilized successfully thermal energy with about 150°C to achieve a refrigeration temperature as low as-35°C. The further analysis of experimental result shows that this system has great potentials in engineering applications of industry and agriculture.

Abstract:In this study, a modified refrigeration cycle (MRC) using refrigerant mixture R170/R290 was proposed for applications in low-temperature freezers. Different from traditional auto-cascade cycle (ARC), additional recuperator and expansion valve are set between condenser and separator to realize phase separation at an intermediate pressure. The MRC can significantly improve volumetric refrigeration capacity (q(ev)) and the coefficient of performance (COP) especially in low evaporating temperature condition. As evaporating temperature is set at -60 degrees C, using MRC system can acquire 18% and 35% COP and q(ev) improvements, and the compression ratio in MRC reduced 23% in comparison to ARC. In general, decreasing both separating temperature and quality of condenser outlet will benefit the performance of MRC. Besides, there exist an appropriate mixture quality at evaporator outlet to obtain the best COP and q(ev) under the given condition. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd and IIR. All rights reserved.

Abstract:This paper investigated the performance of a diffusion absorption refrigerator operating with R23/R32/R134a as the mixed refrigerant, DMF (N, N-dimethylformamide) as the absorbent, helium as the auxiliary inert gas and a solution pump. The experimental results show that the high pressure mixed refrigerant can be further cooled and liquefied in the refrigerant recuperator by the low pressure mixed refrigerant, and diffuse into helium at low refrigerating temperature, then the system can reach much low refrigerating temperature, which is also benefitted from the introduce of the component R32. The feasibility of horizontal serpentine tube-in-tube recuperator in the system has been verified in experiment, but the structure of the recuperator needs to be improved as well as the processing technique and installation accuracy of the recuperator in future.

Abstract:A ternary non-azeotropic mixture of R32/R125/R161 as an alternative refrigerant to R407C was studied. The physical characteristics of R32/R125/R161 are similar to those of R407C. Its ozone depleting potential (ODP) is zero and its global warming potential (GWP) is smaller than that of R407C. Without any modification to the system components, experimental tests were performed on a vapor compression refrigeration set with a rotor compressor, which was originally designed for R407C. Experimental results indicate that power consumption, volumetric refrigerating capacity, refrigerating capacity and coefficient of performance (COP) increased, while pressure ratio and discharge temperature decreased with increasing evaporation temperature at different condensation temperature for R32/R125/R161 and R407C. At the same condensation temperature and evaporation temperature, volumetric refrigerating capacity, refrigerating capacity and COP of R25/R125/R161 were superior to those of R407C, and pressure ratio and power consumption of R25/R125/R161 were lower than those of R407C, and discharge temperature was slightly higher than that of R407C at the same working conditions. In addition, COP and volumetric refrigerating capacity increased with increasing subcooled temperature at the same condensation temperature. Therefore, the new refrigerant R32/R125/R161 can be considered as a promising alternative refrigerant to R407C.

Abstract:R41 was selected to substitute for R23 in an auto-cascade refrigeration cycle with a rectifying column at-60℃.Performance comparisons and analyses were conducted when R1234ze (E)was selected as the less volatile component.An experimental apparatus was designed and established to compare the performances of R23/R1234ze(E)and R41/R1234ze(E)in the system.Both theoretical and experimental results showed that when adopting R1234ze(E)as the less volatile component,COP values decreased slightly and the compression work per unit volume decreased by 1/3—1/2 after the substitution of R41 for R23.Besides,the refrigeration capacity per unit volume also decreased slightly,but the refrigeration capacity per unit mass showed an obvious increase, which would result in significant refrigerant charge reduction.More importantly,the reduction in GWP of R41 would bring obvious environmental protection effect.

A Study On A New Auto-Cascade Refrigerating Cycle

Abstract:In recent years, with the prohibition of CFC by international community, the cascade refrigeration cycle is showing the development of new features, in which Auto-cascade refrigeration cycle with its simple structure, reliable performance particularly has aroused widespread concern. This paper puts forward using the distillation column instead of the multi-stage segregation device, which make full use of the distillation column to provide good enough conditions for the vapour-liquid contact,creat a greater contact surface, ensure the space and time of heat and mass transfer between each component of refrigerant and lubricant, in order to achieve high efficient separation.This cycle uses environment-friendly non-azeotropic mixed (NARM) R600a\R23\R50 as refrigerant. The improved PT equation is used, according to the quality and energy conservation of the distillation column and heat exchanger to carry on thermodynamic analysis. On this basis, the selection and the calculation of the experimental apparatus and equipment carried out to self-made a auto-cascade refrigeration cycle prototype. Through the cooling test of the eight different mixture ratio, the best quality ratio is found and the minimum temperature the ratio can reach. Through repeated experiments, study that the cycle compression ratio of one component affect on the temperature inside the ultra-low temperature box, the cycle compression ratio of the different components under the same temperature inside the ultra-low temperature box affect on the system performance, and the three throttle, cold boxes cycle high and low pressure ratio and distillation column reflux liquid extraction rate affect on the system performance. The prototype broke the traditional method that access to the depth refrigeration needs multiple refrigeration compressors, only use a single-stage air-conditioning refrigeration compressor with lubrication, to achieve high and low boiling point component through the use of distillation devices, including high-performance lubricant separation, successfully reduced to below -80 degrees C, and system stability. According to the results of a series of experiments, analyzed the ratio of working fluid, cycle pressure ratio, distillation column extraction rate of liquid return, increase heat and the expenditure component's effect on the temperature in the ultra-low temperature box and the COP of system.
Experimental Study on Hydrocarbons and Their Mixtures Used in Small Commercial Cabinet Freezers

Abstract:To solve the environment issue of the refrigerant applied in low temperature cabinet freezers, the study was performed on the alternative refrigerants of R404A, such as hydrocarbons. A FORTRAN program for refrigeration cycle was proposed to obtain the thermodynamic cycle performance of R404A, R290, R290/DME (wt%: 80/20) and R290/R134A (wt%: 50/50) under low-temperature conditions. The optimal refrigerant charge amount and cooling rate of a SRL-CD2075HA commercial cabinet freezer were experimentally investigated The results show that the COP of R290, R290/DME (wt%: 80/20) and R290/R134A (wt%: 50/50) are better than that of R404A. Moreover, the power consumption is also lower. In addition, the optimal charge amount of R404A, R290, R290/DME (wt%: 80/20) and R290/R134A (wt%: 50/50) are about 600 g, 250 g, 235 g and 440 g, respectively. R290 and its binary refrigerant blends can achieve the same cooling effect of R404A under the same conditions.

Abstract:The theoretical simulation and thermodynamic analyses of the Linde-Hampson refrigeration system using multiple eco-friendly zeotropic refrigerants are conducted to compare the optimal COP, volumetric refrigerating capacity and irreversibility distribution at the cold space temperature of-45 degrees C to-25 degrees C. The genetic algorithm is employed on the global optimization of Linde-Hampson refrigeration system to find out the optimal operating pressures and proportions of mixed refrigerants. By comparison, the most potential binary and ternary re-frigerants are selected as R744/R1234ze(Z) and R744/R1234ze(E)/R1234ze(Z), respectively. The temperature glide of ternary refrigerant is mainly regulated by the proportions of the middle-boiling-point and high-boiling -point components. The temperature glide of zeotropic refrigerants should well match the temperature span between heat reservoirs, since the matching degree plays an essential role in system performance, and it can be regarded as an important basis for the selection of mixed refrigerants. The results of comparison with the R744 two-stage compression transcritical refrigeration system and the cascade refrigeration system using R744 and R1234yf show that the Linde-Hampson system using suitable mixed refrigerants can obtain the greatest COP and can be considered as a supplement and alternative. The research results will provide a reference to the appli-cations of the Linde-Hampson refrigeration system using eco-friendly zeotropic refrigerants for freezing process in considerations of environmental protection, safety, and efficiency.

Abstract:This paper mainly studies the replacement performance of R290 in R22 low temperature heat pump system from the experimental point of view. By comparing the performance differences under different working conditions, it is found that when R22 is directly extracted from the original system and filled with R290, the heat capacity and COP of the system are attenuated, and the compressor discharge temperature and pressure of the R290 system are higher than those of the original R22 system in low temperature environment. Through the analysis of the system components, it can be considered that the main reason for the above phenomenon is that the compressor displacement of the R22 system is too large and does not match the R290 system. Therefore, in order to meet the safety requirements of the system and improve the overall performance of R290 in the low temperature heat pump system at the same time, it is considered to replace the compressor with a smaller displacement which is more matched with R290 in the system. The experimental results show that the compressor displacement optimization of the R290 low temperature heat pump system can effectively reduce the exhaust temperature and pressure of the system and improve the overall performance of the system. The COP of the optimized R290 low temperature heat pump system is 6.5% higher than that of the original R22 system, and the exhaust temperature in the low temperature environment is reduced by 36% to below 80 C.
Cycle Performance Studies on a New HFC-161/125/143a Mixture As an Alternative Refrigerant to R404A

Abstract:In this paper, a new ternary non-azeotropic mixture of HFC-161/125/143a (0.15/0.45/0.40 in mass fraction), as a promising mixed refrigerant to R404A, is presented. The ozone depletion potential (ODP) of the new refrigerant is zero and its basic thermodynamic properties are similar to those of R404A, but its global warming potential (GWP) is much smaller than those of R507A and R404A. Meanwhile, theoretical calculations show that, under the working condition I (the average evaporation temperature: −23 °C, the average condensing temperature: 43 °C, the superheat temperature: 28 °C, the subcooling temperature: 5 °C), the volumetric refrigerating effect and specific refrigerating effect of the new mixture are 2.33% and 15.48% higher, respectively, than those of R404A. The coefficient of performance (COP) of the new mixture is 5.19% higher than that of R404A and the pressure ratio of the new mixture is 0.82% lower than that of R404A. Equally, under the working condition II (the average evaporation temperature: −40 °C, the average condensing temperature: 35 °C, the superheating temperature: 30 °C, the subcooling temperature: 5 °C), the volumetric refrigerating effect and specific refrigerating effect of the new mixture are 2.24% and 20.58% higher, respectively, than those of R404A. The COP of the new mixture is 4.60% higher than that of R404A and the pressure ratio of the new mixture is similar to that of R404A. The performances of the new mixture and R404A are compared in a vapor compressor refrigeration apparatus originally designed for R404A under several working conditions (condensing temperatures: 35–45 °C, evaporation temperatures: −40–−20 °C). Experimental results show that the new mixture can obtain a higher COP, by 6.3% to 12.1%, and a lower pressure ratio, by 1.8% to 6.6%, compared to R404A; although the discharge temperature of the new mixture is slightly higher than that of R404A. The advantages of the new mixture will be further verified in the actual system.

Abstract:This paper comparatively evaluates the feasibility of R404A, R507A and propane (R290) as substitute refrigerants for R22 used in most low temperature and transport refrigeration applications. The present investigation has been done for a finned-tube condenser based on a segment-by-segment simulation model, which is validated with experimental results from published literature. The performance simulation and comparison of the finned-tube condenser using the refrigerants are carried out at different inlet air temperature and velocity to mimic the actual space conditions. The results show that R290 has lower pressure drop, lower mass flow rate and higher specific heat transfer than R22. Although R404A and R507A have higher specific heat transfer than R22, both of them have larger pressure drop, and bigger mass flow rate. Overall, R290 offers better performance and reliability than R404A and R507A, and can be used as long term substitute refrigerant for R22 in low temperature and transport applications.

Abstract:Steady-state simulation algorithms of variable composition and constant composition air- source heat pumps were proposed by using R32/R134a,R32/R134a(wt30/70)or R22 as working fluid respectively.Comparison on performances of both systems was also reported at the same working condition.The results show that the variable composition system can extend working temperature range and keep heat output constant.Power consumption and discharge pressure of compressor in this system are higher than R32/R134a(wt 30/70)'s but lower than R22's,and its heating coefficient of performance(COP_h)is higher than R22's.These results verify the advantages of variable composition mixture system modulating the capacity of air-source heat pumps.
