Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the influence of different reconstruction thickness on coronary artery calcium score. Materials and Methods: Fifty consecutive cases who underwent coronary CTA and demonstrated with coronary calcification were enrolled in this study. The coronary calcium scoring data were reconstructed with slice thickness of 1. 5mm, 3. Omm and 5. 0mm. Three algorithms were used to measure the coronary artery calcium, the modified Agatston score (AS) ,volume score(VS) and mineral mass score (MS) were analyzed with different thickness, respectively. Results: In the same case, different reconstruction thickness resulted in different VS, MS and AS. The AS,VS and MS were (435. 3±531.4)、(348. 6±418. 6) mm and (89. 1±111.9 ) mg, respectively, when the reconstruction thickness was 1. 5mm; they were(355.3±465.9)、(304.2±384. 8) mm3 and(67. 8±89.3)mg when the thickness was 3mm, while when the thickness was 5mm, the scores were(295.9±409.8)、(234.8±315.9)mm and(54.3±74.6)mg. The scores showed a significant difference. The slice thickness of 1.5mm produced the highest calcium score, whereas thickness of 5mm resulted in the lowest calcium score. Conclusion: Different reconstruction thickness result in different calcium scores, thinner slice would produce a higher calcium score than thicker slice.
