Abstract:In this paper, the C1 interior of the set of vector fields whose integrated flows are expansive is characterized as the set of vector fields without singularities satisfying both Axiom A and the quasi-transversality condition, and it is proved that the above vector fields possessing the shadowing property must be structurally stable. As a corollary, there exists a non-empty C1 open set of vector fields whose integrated flows do not have the shadowing property.
On the C Stability Conjecture for Flows

Abstract:We study the C stability conjecture of Palis and Smale [PS] for flows in this paper. Let M be a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary. For each r 1, let X(M) denote the set of C vector fields of M, endowed with the C topology. Every S # X(M) generates a C r flow ,=, : M_R R. We say S is C structurally stable if S has a C neighborhood U in X(M) such that every X # U generates a flow , that is topologically equivalent to ,. As usual, two flows are topologically equivalent if there is a homeomorphism h : M M that maps the orbits of one flow onto those of the other flow while preserving the orientation. Thus C structural stability implies C structural stability, when both make sense. In [PS] Palis and Smale conjectured that S is C structurally stable if and only if S satisfies Axiom A plus the strong transversality condition (see below for definitions). The ``if '' part was proved first for r 2 by Robbin [R], and then for r=1 by Robinson [Rs1]. The ``only if '' part was reduced by Robinson [Rs2] to proving that C structural stability implies Axiom A, which has been known as the C stability conjecture. Unlike the ``if '' part, the first target for studying the C stability conjecture is the case of r=1, i.e., the C stability conjecture. The case of r 2 is beyond our knowledge as discussed in [M2], and will not be considered in the present paper. The C stability conjecture has attracted attention for a long time. Abstract:We give an affirmative answer to a problem of Liao and Mañé which asks whether, for a nonsingular flow to loose the Ω-stability, it must go through a critical-element-bifurcation. More precisely, a vector field S on a compact boundaryless manifold is called a star system if S has a C 1 neighborhood $\mathcal{U}$ in the set of C 1 vector fields such that every singularity and every periodic orbit of every $X\in\mathcal{U}$ is hyperbolic. We prove that any nonsingular star flow satisfies Axiom A and the no cycle condition.

Abstract:Stability properties of magnetic-field configurations containing the toroidal and axial field are considered. The stability is treated by making use of linear analysis. It is shown that the conditions required for the onset of instability are essentially different from those given by the necessary condition , where s is the cylindrical radius. The growth rate of instability is calculated for a wide range of the parameters. We argue that the instability can operate in two different regimes depending on the strength of the axial field and the profile of the toroidal field.

Abstract:The behavior of spin diffusion in doped semiconductors is shown to be qualitatively different than in undoped (intrinsic) ones. Whereas a spin packet in an intrinsic semiconductor must be a multiple-band disturbance, involving inhomogeneous distributions of both electrons and holes, in a doped semiconductor a single-band disturbance is possible. For n-doped nonmagnetic semiconductors the enhancement of diffusion due to a degenerate electron sea in the conduction band is much larger for these single-band spin packets than for charge packets, and can exceed an order of magnitude at low temperatures even for equilibrium dopings as small as 10^16 cm^-3. In n-doped ferromagnetic and semimagnetic semiconductors the motion of spin packets polarized antiparallel to the equilibrium carrier spin polarization is predicted to be an order of magnitude faster than for parallel polarized spin packets. These results are reversed for p-doped semiconductors.

Abstract:We prove various results involving arcs - which generalise test configurations - within the theory of K-stability. Our main result characterises coercivity of the Mabuchi functional on spaces of Fubini-Study metrics in terms of uniform K-polystability with respect to arcs, thereby proving a version of a conjecture of Tian. The main new tool is an arc version of a numerical criterion for Paul's theory of stability of pairs, for which we also provide a suitable generalisation applicable to pairs with nontrivial stabiliser. We give two applications. Firstly, we give a new proof of a version of the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for Fano manifolds, along the lines originally envisaged by Tian - allowing us to reduce the general Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture to an analogue of the partial C^0-estimate. Secondly, for a (possibly singular) polarised variety which is uniformly K-polystable with respect to arcs, we show that the associated Cartan subgroup of its automorphism group is reductive. In particular, uniform K-stability with respect to arcs implies finiteness of the automorphism group. This generalises work of Blum-Xu for Fano varieties.

Abstract:We propose a notion of multi-scale stability conditions with the goal of providing a smooth compactification of the quotient of the space of projectivized Bridgeland stability conditions by the group of autoequivalence. For the case of the 3CY category associated with the $A_n$-quiver this goal is achieved by defining a topology and complex structure that relies on a plumbing construction. We compare this compactification to the multi-scale compactification of quadratic differentials and briefly indicate why even for the Kronecker quiver this notion needs refinement to provide a full compactification.

Abstract:Let α>0, β>α, and let X1,...,Xq be Clocα vector fields on a Cα+1 manifold which span the tangent space at every point, where Cs denotes the Zygmund-Hölder space of order s. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for when there is a Cβ+1 structure on the manifold, compatible with its Cα+1 structure, with respect to which X1,...,Xq are Clocβ. This strengthens previous results of the first author which dealt with the setting α>1, β>max⁡{α,2}.

Abstract:Using time-dependent compressible laminar Navier-Stokes equations with a finite volume method incorporating a third-order-accurate discretization scheme, the flow structures around a slender at certain incidences are numerical simulated and typical crossflow patterns are presented. At incidence 10°, these vortical configurations are different at dissimilar axial locations though they are symmetric. At 35°, the symmetric vortical structures still maintain over the slender, yet their interaction at afterbody is intense than that at the forebody since the two vortices have fully developed downstream. The unstable topological structure of trajectory of saddle-to-saddle points and multiple limit cycle are further discussed in topological stability theory. These structures easily produce bifurcation with perturbation. The results support the view of hydrodynamic instability of vortices flow field.

Abstract:A great open problem is: can one learn the topology of the non-smooth path spaces with an L2 Hodge-deRham theory This one hopes to establish through a suitable complex of differential forms. Since the space is a Banach manifolds, and the Hodge theory is based on Hilbert spaces, it is trick to find such a complex. The relatively simpler Bismut tangent spaces and their tensor products, whose dual spaces are natural candidates for the complex, cannot be used, because these spaces are not necessarily closed under the Lie bracket operation if there is the effect of curvature. In this article we seek out a class of nice vector fields whose brackets behaves are calculable and behave nicely the damped tensor vector fields, using an Itô mp, which is also used by the authors in `Special Itô maps and an L2 Hodge theory for one forms on path spaces. Abstract:The well-known stability conjecture of Palis and Smale states that if a diffeomorphism is structurally stable, then the chain recurrent set is hyperbolic. It is natural to ask if this type of result is true for an individual chain class, that is, whether or not every structurally stable chain class is hyperbolic. Regarding the notion of structural stability, there is a subtle difference between the case of a whole system and the case of an individual chain class. The latter is more delicate and contains additional difficulties. In this paper we prove a result of this type for the latter, with an additional assumption of codimension 1. Precisely, let f f be a diffeomorphism of a closed manifold M M and let p p be a hyperbolic periodic point of f f of index 1 or dim ⁡ M − 1 \dim M-1 . We prove if the chain class of p p is structurally stable, then it is hyperbolic. Since the chain class of p p is not assumed in advance to be locally maximal, and since the counterpart of it for the perturbation g g is defined not canonically but indirectly through the continuation p g p_g of p p , the proof is quite delicate.

Abstract:Two sufficient conditions are derived for the stability of two-dimensional (2-D) systems described by the Fomasini-Marchesini first model (FM-I). It is proved that the above sufficient conditions are less conservative than the corresponding conditions of a recent paper. It is also observed that all of the available sufficient conditions can be regarded as upper bounds of the structured singular value (SSV) of a related matrix. Moreover, it is proved that when a weighted induced-2 matrix norm is adopted, the satisfaction of a norm based sufficient condition implies that of a linear matrix inequality (LMI) based one. Numerical simulations have also been performed to compare the conservatism of all the available sufficient conditions. It is found that there is an LMI based sufficient condition which outperforms all the other sufficient conditions.
