Abstract:ONet-an object database management system based on ODMG 3.0 standard,implements the part of C++ binding.The basic architecture of ONet client side is introduced,the defects of binding flow with static object schema are analysed.An idea of design based on dynamic object component is offered and the particular description is made for improving and reconstructing the client architecture with interface programming and callback mechanism among the components.Therefore,object schema is loaded dynamically in ONet system.

Abstract:Medical data is always complex and specific,it hence is critical to choose an appropriate database platform for the performance of Hospital Information System.This paper explores the status of Hospital Information System in China, and proposes a modified Inpatient Management System based on Post-Relational Database Cach.We analyze the system requirements and choose the Object-Oriented method to design database platform.Furthermore,we propose a direct mouse-drag interface method to resolve the issue of inpatient transfer operation.As a result of application of the Post-Relational Database Cach,the Inpatient Management System is proved to be more efficient.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors present the design and implementation of an Interoperable Object Platform for Multi-Databases (IOPMD). The aim of the system is to provide a uniform object view and a set of tools for object manipulation and query based on heterogeneous multiple data sources under client/server environment. The common object model is compatible with ODMG2.0 and OMG’s CORBA, which provides main OO features such as OID, attribute, method, inheritance, reference, etc. Three types of interfaces, namely Vface, IOQL and C++API, are given to provide the database programmer with tools and functionalities for application development. Nested transactions and compensating technology are adopted in transaction manager. In discussing some key implementation techniques, translation and mapping approaches from various schemata to a common object schema are proposed. Buffer management provides the data caching policy and consistency maintenance of cached data. Version management presents some operations based on the definitions in semantic version model, and introduces the implementation of the semantic version graph.

OMSs are powerful tools to create ontologies and extend their applications and scope. This paper explains the basic design principles of an OMS and designs a general framework of OMSs. It devotes to promoting systematically research and development of OMSs.

Abstract:Conventional data persistence technology is to store the object to relational database through object-relation mapping,but its easy-use performance and efficiency always remain problems.In this paper,we introduce a more convenient alternative with higher performance:i.e.,to store mass data to object-oriented database.However the use of object-oriented database may be not well known by quite a few programmers since it has not been commonly used at moment yet.Thus we propose an extended Java collection framework based on object-oriented database,through which the programmers can operate the object-oriented database as using common Java collection API.The performance of persistence is also enhanced compared with using common relational database.

Design and implementation of JB-OODBT: An object-oriented database toolkit for JB/CASE

Abstract:In this paper, the authors present several aspects of the design and implementation of JB-OODBT, an Object-Oriented DataBase Toolkit for JB/CASE, which is an integrated CASE system under development in Peking University, P.R. China. Since most of the data in JB/CASE's repositories are stored in a variety of database systems, the aim of JB-OODBT is not only to provide APIs for database applications in JB/CASE, but also to establish a uniform object paradigm and to provide a set of tools for efficient object manipulation/query on these underlying heterogeneous, autonomous, distributed data sources in client/server environments. First, the architecture of JB-OODBT and kernel implementation mechanisms are introduced briefly. Then the JBCOM, a common object model adopted in JB-OODBT compatible with ODMG2.0's Object Model and OMG CORBA's Data Model, is presented, which provides some basic OO features as attribute, method, inheritance and reference to JB/CASE users. As for the interface, the authors give a detailed description of three types of interface, namely JBIntegrator, Embedded JB/C++ API and JBOQL, which provide CASE users with a set of tools and functionalities for every phase of OODBMS application development. In addition, several kernel implementation techniques of JB-OODBT, including schema translation, buffer management, version management and transaction management, are given in this paper.

Abstract:We describe a new benchmark approach which is needed for two reasons. First, today's computer systems almost exclusively use relational database management systems (DBMS), and, besides (purely) relational DB technology, only the new trend of object-relational technology is expected to obtain practical relevance. Second, today's (complex) software systems are developed in an object-oriented way. Thus, a benchmark approach is needed assessing the contributions of (object-)relational DBMS to object-oriented software development. Consequently, such a benchmark does not only have to 'measure' the efficiency of the DBMS itself but does also have to take the overhead to be spent for mapping object-oriented data structures to the DBMS interface into account. We describe how our approach achieves this goal and report on first measurement results.

Abstract:This paper presents a LOMS (Learning Objects Management System) based on the B/S architecture for the support to the reusability and interoperability of various learning objects. After classifying the existing standards, the XML technology is used to support different metadata standards and possible emerging of new standards and standard changes. The system works well with metadata standards IEEE LOM and CELTS-3 now. The work of user input during the metadata generation also has considerably been reduced by the template together with information gathered from the system. The adoption of Xindice – an XML-native database makes the search and retrieval of learning objects effective and easy.

Abstract:Spatial data organization in the new generation GIS platform is a key technique. An organizing method of feature-oriented spatial data was presented, and a model of feature-oriented object level (FOOL) was proposed. Spatial partitioning, spatial clustering and spatial indexing were discussed in detail. Based on the introduction of four-tier architecture, systematic database services, application interfaces and application services were analyzed. Based on the spatial data organization and systematic architecture, the function modules with massive spatial database management for the system were designed, and also the detailed object logic relation for the modules were explained. Based on analysis for the distributed computing environment and remote spatial data processing, an example of massive spatial database platform running in Linux and Oracle was given. The testing with 20 GB spatial data validates the correctness of FOOL, which shows that the systematic main aims of feature-object spatial data organizing, integrative massive spatial data management and distributed spatial data computing are implemented.
