Abstract:Fix $t\in [1,\infty]$. Let $S$ be an atomic commutative semigroup and, for all $x\in S$, let $\mathscr{L}_t(S):=\{\|f\|_t:f\in Z(x)\}$ be the "$t$-length set" of $x$ (using the standard $l_p$-space definition of $\|\cdot\|_t$). The $t$-Delta set of $x$ (denoted $\Delta_t(S)$) is the set of gaps between consecutive elements of $\mathscr{L}_t(S)$; the Delta set of $S$ is then defined by $\bigcup\limits_{x\in S} \Delta_t(S)$. Though all existing literature on this topic considers the $1$-Delta set, recent results on the $t$-elasticity of Numerical Semigroups (Behera et. al.) for $t\neq 1$ have brought attention to other invariants, such as the $t$-Delta set for $t\neq 1$, as well. Here we characterize $\Delta_t(S)$ for all numerical semigroups $\langle a_1,a_2\rangle$ and all $t\in(1,\infty)$ outside a small family of extremal examples. We also determine the cardinality and describe the distribution of that aberrant family.

Abstract:The construction of uninorms on bounded lattices has been a attractive research area. In this paper, we introduce some new classes of uninorms on bounded lattices via t-subnorms and t-subconorms with a neutral element e under some constraints. We also give some illustrative examples to help understand the structure of these new uninorms. Moreover, we provide an answer to the open problem raised by <a class="workspace-trigger" href="#br0070">[7]</a>. Finally, the differences between our methods and existing approaches are assessed.

The sets of idempotent elements, zero divisors and nilpotent elements associated to a t-norm are introduced and related to each other. Abstract:We investigate approach spaces generated by probabilistic metric spaces with respect to a continuous t-norm $*$ on the unit interval $[0,1]$. Let $k^*$ be the supremum of the idempotent elements of $*$ in $[0,1)$. It is shown that if $k^*=1$ (resp. $k^*<1$), then an approach space is probabilistic metrizable with respect to $*$ if and only if it is probabilistic metrizable with respect to the minimum (resp. product) t-norm.

Abstract:In this study, we show some construction methods to obtain a semi-t-operator from a given pseudo-t-conorm and pseudo-t-norm on bounded lattices. Using these methods, we prove that the known methods of constructing semi-t-operators on bounded lattices proposed by Fang and Hu are incorrect, and present the correct forms at the same time. Furthermore, some other construction methods for semi-t-operators on bounded lattices are also added.

Abstract:We make a probabilistic analysis related to some inference rules which play an important role in nonmonotonic reasoning. In a coherence-based setting, we study the extensions of a probability assessment defined on $n$ conditional events to their quasi conjunction, and by exploiting duality, to their quasi disjunction. The lower and upper bounds coincide with some well known t-norms and t-conorms: minimum, product, Lukasiewicz, and Hamacher t-norms and their dual t-conorms. On this basis we obtain Quasi And and Quasi Or rules. These are rules for which any finite family of conditional events p-entails the associated quasi conjunction and quasi disjunction. We examine some cases of logical dependencies, and we study the relations among coherence, inclusion for conditional events, and p-entailment. We also consider the Or rule, where quasi conjunction and quasi disjunction of premises coincide with the conclusion. We analyze further aspects of quasi conjunction and quasi disjunction, by computing probabilistic bounds on premises from bounds on conclusions. Finally, we consider biconditional events, and we introduce the notion of an $n$-conditional event. Then we give a probabilistic interpretation for a generalized Loop rule. In an appendix we provide explicit expressions for the Hamacher t-norm and t-conorm in the unitary hypercube.

Abstract:Unbounded convergences have been applied successfully to locally solid topologies on vector lattices. In the present paper, we first expose several properties of various classes of Riesz pseudonorms on vector lattices. We accomplish this by abstracting some generalities of the norm of an AM-space with strong norm unit to locally solid topologies induced by a pseudonorm. By using these classes of pseudonorms, we study compactness properties of operators (not necessarily linear) between locally solid (not necessarily Hausdorff) topologies. We study new classes of operators such as pseudonorm compact, pseudo-semicompact and pseudo-AM-compact operators as well as the classical Montel operators.

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to solve the problem proposed by Çaylı about uninorms on bounded lattices and build close relationships among uninorms constructed in this paper. Based on the known construction methods and researchers' work, we obtain new uninorms on L with the given t-norm and t-conorm by using closure (interior) operators. The new construction methods provide answers to the problem presented by Çaylı. All classes of uninorms constructed via closure (interior) operators in this paper can be closely connected in a quadruple from the views of the logics of finite observations.

Abstract:In the literature on uninorms on lattices, the proof of associativity of a uninorm is usually split into all possible cases, which takes up a lot of space. In this article, we use commutativity to reduce the complexity in the proof of associativity. Moreover, some methods for constructing uninorms on an arbitrary bounded lattice are introduced. These methods generalize some construction methods in the literature.

Abstract:This paper mainly focuses on new methods of constructing triangular norms as well as triangular conorms on a bounded lattice. At first, we propose the definition of a partition element and show that the definition is well-defined. Then, we construct a t-norm (t-conorm) on a bounded lattice with the help of an interior (a closure) operator and a given t-subnorm (t-subconorm). For the sake of clarity, we give some interpretive examples of the new methods and show that the conditions restricting the elements are indispensable in the construction process. Moreover, we discuss the relationships among the construction methods proposed in this paper and the methods that already exist. Finally, we generalize the new construction methods to modified ordinal sum methods by iteration.

Abstract:In a previous paper, the second author introduced a compact topology τr on the space of closed ideals of a unital Banach algebra A. If A is separable, then τr is either metrizable or else neither Hausdorff nor first countable. Here it is shown that τr is Hausdorff if A is C1[0, 1], but that if A is a uniform algebra, then τr is Hausdorff if and only if A has spectral synthesis. An example is given of a strongly regular, uniform algebra for which every maximal ideal has a bounded approximate identity, but which does not have spectral synthesis. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification 46H10.

Abstract:In this paper, we are interested in studying the set $\mathcal{A}_{\|\cdot\|}(X, Y)$ of all norm-attaining operators $T$ from $X$ into $Y$ satisfying the following: given $\epsilon>0$, there exists $\eta$ such that if $\|Tx\| > 1 - \eta$, then there is $x_0$ such that $\| x_0 - x\| < \epsilon$ and $T$ itself attains its norm at $x_0$. We show that every norm one functional on $c_0$ which attains its norm belongs to $\mathcal{A}_{\|\cdot\|}(c_0, \mathbb{K})$. Also, we prove that the analogous result holds neither for $\mathcal{A}_{\|\cdot\|}(\ell_1, \mathbb{K})$ nor $\mathcal{A}_{\|\cdot\|}(\ell_{\infty}, \mathbb{K})$. Under some assumptions, we show that the sphere of the compact operators belongs to $\mathcal{A}_{\|\cdot\|}(X, Y)$ and that this is no longer true when some of these hypotheses are dropped. The analogous set $\mathcal{A}_{nu}(X)$ for numerical radius of an operator instead of its norm is also defined and studied. We present a complete characterization for the diagonal operators which belong to the sets $\mathcal{A}_{\| \cdot \|}(X, X)$ and $\mathcal{A}_{nu}(X)$ when $X=c_0$ or $\ell_p$. As a consequence, we get that the canonical projections $P_N$ on these spaces belong to our sets. We give examples of operators on infinite dimensional Banach spaces which belong to $\mathcal{A}_{\| \cdot \|}(X, X)$ but not to $\mathcal{A}_{nu}(X)$ and vice-versa. Finally, we establish some techniques which allow us to connect both sets by using direct sums.

Abstract:We introduce two notions of conditionals, forward conditional for deductive implication and backward conditional for abductive implication. The former is in regard to Lewis [16]'s conditional, while the latter is treated as a binary window modality. We introduce logics of forward and backward conditionals, interpreted over a point-set semantics (with explicit likelihood) from the logic of subset spaces. These conditionals and their logics have applications in the studies of conditional norms.

Abstract:In this work, we measure longitudinal dressed states of a superconducting qubit, the single Cooper-pair box, and an intense microwave field. The dressed states represent the hybridization of the qubit and photon degrees of freedom, and appear as avoided level crossings in the combined energy diagram. By embedding the circuit in an rf oscillator, we directly probe the dressed states. We measure their dressed gap as a function of photon number and microwave amplitude, finding good agreement with theory. In addition, we extract the relaxation and dephasing rates of these states.
