DESCRIPTIONS OF THREE NEW SPECIES OF THE GENUS PLACIDUS DISTANT FROM CHINA(HEMIPTERA, CICADELLIDAE)

Abstract:In this paper,three new species of the genus Placidus Distant are described from China.The type specimens of the new species are deposited in the Institute of Entomology, Guizhou University(IEGU) and Agricultural College, Changjiang(ACCJU).1 Placidus furcatus sp. nov. (Figs.1-9)Boby length (incl. tegm.): ♂ 7.5-7.8mm,♀7.8mm.Head small,vertex somewhat flat,anterior margin roundly convex, median langth slightly longer than width between inside margin of eyes.Fsce distinctly longer than width,with frontoctlypeus distinctly aeched medially,anteclypeus broadening anteriorly, with anterior margin straight. Tegmen with apical margin round, venation nearly complete,with four apical cells,three anteapical cells,appendix fairly well developed.Body black,with a pair pale yellow patches from side of middle ridge to eyes,face black,pronotum and scutellum black,tegmen transparent,with veins dark brown.Holotype ♂,Shennongjia (31°48′N,110°37′),Hubei Province,13 Aug.1997, coll.by YANG Mao-Fa(IEGU). Paratypes: 1♂,1♀,Wufeng, Hubei Province,17 July 2002,coll.by PEI Hu-Rong and HONG Lin-Jun(ACCJU).This new species is similar to Placidus striolatus Zhang et Wei in appearance,but can be distinguished from the latter by the genitalvalve ladder-shaped,pygofer side rectangle,the apex of aedeagus branched.Etymology.The new species name is from Latin furca,which means the apex of aedeagus brached.2 Placidus leucomaculatus sp. nov.(Figs.10-17)Body length (incl. tegm.): ♂8.5mm.General appearance as in Placidus furcatus sp. nov. Vertex pale yellow,basal area of face pale yellow,which apex black,pronotum pale brown,which lateral area with one pale yellow spot,and scutellum pale brown,its medial area and lateral margin with pale yellow spots,tegmen transparent,with veins pale brown.Holotype ♂, Jianfengling (18°28′N,108°17′E), Hainan Province, 14 May 1997, coll.by YANG Mao-Fa(IEGU).This new species is close to Placidus dentatus Zhang et Wei in appearance and colour pattern,but can be distinguished from latter by the vertex pale yellow,lateral margin of scutellum with one pale yellow spot, aedeagus with two pairs apical processes,among one pairs tooth-shaped.Etymology. The new species name is from the Latin leuco-plus macula, which means the pronotum and scutellum with pale spots. 3 Placidus longwangshanensis sp. nov.(Figs.18-25)Body length (incl. tegm.): ♂6.3-6.5mm, ♀ 6.5mm.General appearance as in Placidus furcatus sp. nov.Vertex pale yellow,eyes black,basal area of face pale yellow,and which apex black,pronotum and scutellum pale brown, tegmen transparent,with veins pale brown,pectoral plate and abdomen black lacking patteran.Holotype ♂, paratypes 1♂,1♀,Longwangshan (22°30′N,119°26′E), Zhejiang Province, 6-8 Sept.2000,coll.by YANG Mao-Fa and GUO Jian-Jun(IEGZU).This new species is similar to Placidus brunneus Kuoh,but can be distinguished from latter by vertex and base of face pale yellow,and the apex of face black,the shape of aedeagus show differs distinctly.Etymology. The specific name refers to the type locality.
