Abstract:This paper analyzes the reasons that the group of Chinese philologists have been formed in the 20th Century. Three factors for this are mentioned, which includes the discovery of new materials that provided these philologists with new condition and topics; book scattering in great quantities that urged them to collect, arrange and photocopy the rare books. And both the New Culture Movement and the May 4th Movement made the document arrangement and research as the main way for philologists to pass on the traditional Chinese civilization. Then the paper lists 40 late important philologists and analyzes the academic background of these philologists.

Abstract:Abstract In the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), book collecting evolved from an elite pastime into a widespread obsession. ‘Bibliophilia’—the passionate love for books—drove many book collectors to exhaust their fortunes or even trade their concubines for books. As books became indispensable towards gaining respectability in Chinese society, scholars, merchants, and landowners ensured that their residences were thoroughly infused with the prestigious “fragrance of books”. Some literati even regarded book collecting as a man’s most important undertaking in life. Ming private book collectors broke away from tradition and made their private collections available for others to view, exchange, or copy, greatly promoting the circulation of books. Through their incredible attention to the collection, classification, storage, and proofreading of books, Ming bibliophiles contributed enormously to the preservation and transmission of Chinese culture.

Abstract:Since the New Period,the types of Chinese literature temperament are various.This paper choose several representative types and compare them to the tiger,monkey,cat,donkey and pig.Tiger type means that adheres to the core concept of the New Literature,faces bravely the social life and major issues of art,and shows the indomitable fighting spirit of the reality and strong social impact.Monkey type means that,although intending to display major social issues,it gets used to conceal its true intentions under the protection of the various strategies.Cat type means that of artistic elegance and fine,but lacks the in-depth dialogue with the times.Donkey type means that is superficially strong but weak inside,and is against the core value of modern humanism.Pig type means that abandons the in-depth model of literature,and gives freedom to ventilation of mean and instinctive desire.Focusing on the criterion about thoughts and arts,we should agree on the tiger type,understands the monkey type,differentiation treat the cat type,alert the donkey type and belittles the pig type.

Abstract:The day before yesterday: the physician-philologist. The times of the first appearance of printed books and of the re-discovery of ancient texts are also the times of syphilis. The physician, more than a philosopher as Galen suggested, is also a philologist. A very interesting example is fournished by Antonio Benivieni (+1502) and by his book De causis abditis (1506). Yesterday: the philologist-physician. Charles Daremberg (1816-1872) is our example. In 1841, he wrote his medical thesis Exposition des connaissances de Galien sur l'anatomie, la physiologie et la pathologie du systeme nerveux (faculte de medecine de Paris, n 222). Today: a necessary couple, the physician and the philologist. Greek and Latin are no more subjects of teaching in school, and the philologists seem to be strange, dusty and dirty people. Is the physician-philologist still alive or not? To be useful to the daily practice of medicine, history of medicine will be also a philological matter, as philology is the complete study of ancient, modern and contemporary texts. It teaches to read well, to understand all that has been written and, as a consequence, all that the patients tell today to their physicians. The problem is not teaching something more (new facts, new notions...) but teaching to know well; in a word, teaching the famous continuous learning, which is still a difficult reality.
