Abstract:A digital hydraulic valve is an important component of the digital hydraulic system, and its performance is directly related to the system function. In order to make the valve system more competitive in dimension, digital valve miniaturization is an important research point. A new micro digital valve is designed, which is analyzed from the mechanical structure and magnetic circuit mechanism, and the design difficulties are also expounded. The four subsystems and switching characteristics of the valve are theoretically analyzed and simulated. In order to test the performance of the valve, a test system is designed, and performance of the new micro valve is tested. The test results show that the switch characteristic analysis of the valve is correct. The comparison between the test curve and the simulation curve is carried out, which demonstrates that the accuracy of the simulation model is reasonable. The theoretical analysis of the new micro digital valve is consistent with experiments.

Abstract:Due to the increasing demand for large-tonnage construction machinery, the manufacturers call for a reliable and inexpensive proportional control valve with large flow capacity. In this work, a novel throttle poppet valve based on hydraulic-feedback principle has been studied comprehensively and optimized to meet the requirements of the construction machinery. A detailed and precise mathematical model has been developed and validated through experiments. According to the model, basic status of the valve under different working conditions has been analyzed, and the impacts of the parameters on the performances of response speed and the pressure stiffness have been studied through the root locus method. To find the optimal parameters suitable for construction machinery, an optimization based on non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II was carried out, and the performances have been significantly improved. Finally, by adopting the analysis on the parameters and the optimization results, guidelines for designing the hydraulic-feedback proportional valve in various sizes are presented.

Abstract:In this work, one kind of proportional throttle cartridge valve which is based on hydraulic-feedback principle is studied comprehensively. A detailed precise mathematical model is built. Analysis of the model shows that the model varies greatly depending on the operating point chosen for the linearization. The influences of design parameters are studied through root locus method and several parameters are picked out which have great impact on the dynamic performance. Then an optimization based on iterative eigenvalue configuration is implemented. After the optimization, the performance of the valve is improved effectively.

Abstract:A single-pump multi-actuator hydraulic system has an amount of coupling loss because the output pressure of the pump adapts the actuator with the highest load and the other actuators with lower loads have to consume the pressure difference in throttling valves. In this paper, a multi-pump multi-actuator system with on/off valve matrix is developed to reduce the coupling throttling loss. The total flow rate of all pumps matches the requirement of all actuators so as to avoid unnecessary increase of installation power. With the help of the on/off valve matrix, on the one hand, the multiple actuators can be decoupled into several single-pump single actuator systems separately in low flow demand. On the other hand, the multiple pumps can interflow to satisfy large flow demand. A two-level control strategy is proposed to achieve energy saving and good precision tracking simultaneously. The first level is to control the on/off switches and actuator modes based on the optimal energy consumption. The second level is to control the pumps and the throttling valves aiming at desired tracking precision. In addition, a compensation strategy is proposed to reduce the flow shock in on/off switches by transiting the control signals smoothly. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed hydraulic system and control strategy are verified by experimental results.
Study on Control Performance of Digital Piston Pump Based on Virtual Prototype Technology

Abstract:In order to develop a new type of digital hydraulic pump and study its control characteristics, with the high-speed on/off valve control, a new type of control mode for digital piston pump was developed to realize different functions by changing a controller program. The dynamic and hydraulic models were es-tablished by analyzing the control principle of this digital pump. An interface was designed to connect the two models, and a virtual prototype of this digital pump was built in the virtual prototype platform. The flow control, pressure control and power control of this digital pump were studied in two ways: the simu-lation of the virtual prototype and the experiments of the physics prototype. The results showed that accu-rate pressure and flow control can be realized in less than 2 s, and accurate constant power control can be performed. So the digital pump is convenient to meet different control requirements by using defining way. Besides, the virtual prototype technology can well predict the pump performance and would be a good choice in de-signing and optimizing the digital pumps.

Abstract:In order to get the better electromagnetic characteristics of the micro digital valve, the larger electromagnetic force should be obtained in the smaller electromagnetic structure. The electromagnetic force directly determines the electromagnetic properties of the miniature digital valve. The electromagnetic force test is studied in the paper. The results of electromagnetic simulation results are basically consistent with the experimental results. The simulation model is reliable and accurate. The dynamic simulation results show that the dynamic characteristics of the miniature digital valve meet the requirements of the digital hydraulic technology. Design of the new micro digital valve is reasonable.

Abstract:Dynamic performance is an important index of high-speed on/off valve in the digital hydraulic field. Optimizing the control algorithm is an effective method to improve the dynamic performance of existing high-speed on/off valves. Usually, a high-voltage excitation method is used to realize fast switching of the high-speed on/off valve, but this also leads to a high temperature rise, large energy consumption, and long delay times when switching off. In this article, an intelligent pulse-width modulation control algorithm is proposed to improve dynamic performance while minimizing temperature rise and energy consumption of high-speed on/off valves. A high-frequency voltage source with full positive, low positive, full negative, and zero duty ratios is applied to drive the high-speed on/off valve in opening, maintaining opened, closing and maintaining closed states, respectively. The adaptive switching of these four duty ratios is realized by real-time current feedback which can estimate the operational state of the high-speed on/off valve, so that the current in the loop is always in the optimal state. A mathematical model of the high-speed on/off valve is built, and based on it, the theoretical formulas for the delay time, temperature rise, and energy consumption of the high-speed on/off valve are deduced. Simulation results indicate that the intelligent pulse-width modulation control algorithm has a better performance in dynamic characteristics than normal high-voltage excitation methods. Moreover, experimental results from a test system indicate that the intelligent pulse-width modulation control has the potential to shorten the opening time by 23.6% and closing time by 17.0%, which confirms the simulation results. Results also showed the ability to extend the controllable working duty ratio by 83.3%, to reduce temperature rise by 69.9%, and reduce energy consumption by 88.8% when compared to the matched controller of the tested high-speed on/off valve. This article presents an effective and practical method to improve the performance of high-speed on/off valves.

Abstract:A pneumatic microvalve which can be used in pneumatic pressure control for lab-on-a-chip applications is presented in this paper. In order to realize a feedback control and miniaturization, a micro stepper-motor is selected to control the opening of the microvalve. After introducing the structure and working principle of the pneumatic microvalve driven by a stepper-motor, the static flow rate simulation of pneumatic stepper-motor microvalve is processed in the condition of different opening sizes of the microvalve and pressure difference over the valve. The stepper-motor microvalve is fabricated and corresponding control circuit is designed. Experiments on static and dynamic characteristics of the microvalve are carried out. Good agreement has been shown between the simulation and experimental results.

Abstract:In hydraulic area, independent metering control（IMC） technology is an effective approach to improve system efficiency and control flexibility. In addition, digital hydraulic technology（DHT） has been verified as a reasonable method to optimize system dynamic performance. Integrating these two technologies into one component can combine their advantages together. However, few works focused on it. In this paper, a twin spools valve with switching technology-controlled pilot stage（TSVSP） is presented, which applied DHT into its pilot stage while appending IMC into its main stage. Based on this prototype valve, a series of numerical and experiment analysis of its IMC performance with both simulated load and excavator boom cylinder are carried out. Results showed fast and robust performance of pressure and flow compound control with acceptable fluctuation phenomenon caused by switching technology.Rising time of flow response in excavator cylinder can be controlled within 200 ms, meanwhile, the recovery time of rod chamber pressure under suddenly changed condition is optimized within 250 ms. IMC system based on TSVSP can improve both dynamic performance and robust characteristics of the target actuator so it is practical in valvecylinder system and can be applied in mobile machineries.

Abstract:A special controller based on ARM(advanced RISC machines) was designed to effectively control the energy regulation based variable-speed electro-hydraulic system and improve its application characteristic.In the view of energy regulation and based on the energy supply-demand relationship,a PID based compound control strategy was designed to control the inverter,the proportional directional valve and the proportional throttle valve.The system control parameters are set by the keyboard and the operation state of the system can be real-time displayed on the LCD installed in the controller.And the controller provides the serial communication interface between the controller and the upper-end computer for real-time monitor.The rectangle experiments of valve control system,variable-speed control system,valve variable-speed compound control system,and energy regulation based variable-speed control system were accomplished.The experimental results show that the controller can work effectively,and the designed system can obtain fast response and good energy-saving effect.

Abstract:The independent metering approach makes the two chamber pressure states of the hydraulic actuator completely controllable, which offers the opportunity for energy conservation by reducing the working pressure. However, there still remains a great deal of throttling losses since the entire flow rate is throttling controlled with the valves. In order to avoid throttling losses, the direct pump controlled system might be an option, but the relatively slow dynamic response restricts its application in occasions with response and precision demands. To realize further energy conservation and simultaneous high precision tracking performance, this paper proposes a brand new hardware configuration which integrates the direct pump control, independent metering, and energy reuse methods and takes advantages of their respective strengths. The adaptive robust control approach is applied to deal with the nonlinear control problems. Comparative simulations are done with the focuses on energy consumption and tracking performance.

Abstract:Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part E: Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering, Ahead of Print. The position straightness of the hydraulic supports is the key factor to the intelligent fully mechanized mining, and the adjacent cylinder is the actuator used to pull the hydraulic support. However, the control component of the adjacent cylinder is electromagnetic on/off valve that cannot control the movement of adjacent cylinder proportionally. Therefore, a novel proportional water flow valve with a digital pilot stage is proposed to control the trajectory of adjacent cylinder precisely. The novel valve consists of a dual active cartridge main valve and a digital pilot valve that includes a high speed on/off valve A (HSV-A) and a throttle valve piloted by the high speed on/off valve B (HV-B). A coupling dynamic mathematical model of the flow valve is formulated and the dynamic characteristics of the valve is analyzed theoretically. The fluctuation of the throttle valve and main spool motion is also analytically calculated. In addition, the influences of the control parameters and key structural parameters on the throttle valve and the main valve's motion are analyzed on the basis of AMESim simulation respectively. The simulation results have demonstrated that the displacement fluctuation of the valve can be reduced by increasing the control frequency. The throttle valve closed-loop displacement fluctuation is about 0.2 mm and 0.1 mm when the control frequency is 100 Hz and 200 Hz. What's more, decreasing the main valve orifice diameter can also effectively lower the main valve displacement fluctuation, while it will diminish the main valve response speed at the same time.

Abstract:Many hydraulic tools, like hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic artificial muscle joints are operated by adjusting pressure differences between different zones. Typically, the method employed to change the pressure difference is establishing hydraulic bridges and adjusting liquid resistance. While effective, this method's drawback is complex structures. To address this issue, a water-hydraulic pressure difference control valve, integrating two hydraulic bridges, was designed. The static performances including the output pressure difference, the flow rate and the force acting on the valve core were analyzed using AMESim and computational fluid dynamics simulations. Based on the simulation results, a prototype of voice coil motor direct drive pressure difference control valve was manufactured and the corresponding experiments were carried out. The computational fluid dynamics simulation results show that the internal leakage and the through-flow capacity difference between throttling grooves affect the flow field characteristics of the valve. When the pump pressure is 3 MPa and the valve opening is at the middle position, the internal leakage increases the flow rate from 2.25 L/min to 2.38 L/min, and the through-flow capacity difference reduces the control port pressure from the theoretical analysis of 1.5 MPa to 1.41 MPa. Furthermore, combined with the analysis of the external liquid resistance, the AMESim model of the pressure difference control valve is modified. When the pump pressure is 3 MPa, the pressure difference and flow rate average deviations between the modified AMESim model and the experiment are 0.021 MPa and 0.048 L /min. Finally, a rotational angle experiment for a water hydraulic artificial muscle joints showed satisfactory control effects, suggesting the valve's application in controlling hydraulic tools and actuators.
