Abstract:Urban untreated sewage is widely used as a heat source in the heat pump system. Sewage energy has typically been extracted indirectly, i.e., by setting up a heat exchanger before the units. Among sewage heat exchangers, the shell-and-tube heat exchanger is widely applied, while the untreated sewage source heat pump system using a plate heat exchanger is less common owing to its special structure requiring a higher quality of sewage treatment and a superior cleaning method. To solve this problem, a specially designed, sewage source heat pump system was developed and tested. It consists of a kind of pretreatment device, i.e. self-designed spiral-flow type sewage filter and automatic backwashing plate sewage heat exchanger. The model of the heat transfer coefficient of the plate heat exchanger is validated through the comparison between the actual operation data and the theoretical value, and then the influence of the sewage flow velocity on the exchanger is analyzed. Finally, the COP value is calculated, and an energy conservation performance evaluation of the complete system is performed. The test results of actual operation show that the COP value of the new sewage source heat pump system proposed in this paper is 3.02. The filter device has good anti-clogging effect, and the heat exchanger runs stably, achieving the expected energy saving effect.

Abstract:Based on the law of mass and energy conservation and the one-dimensional model of heat transfer, a heat and moisture transfer line source model for the ground-source heat pump system has been developed. Numerical simulation results in summer working conditioning indicate that the affect of moisture transfer in soil was mainly around the U-type tube. When the soil moisture content is high, the capacity of heat transfer in soil is good. The heat transfer capacity of the ground heat exchanger calculated by the model in this work is lower than those which are calculated by the common heat transfer model. When the initial soil moisture content is about 0.1, the difference calculated by the two model is about 18%.

Abstract:Heat pump technology can extract low-level heat energy from urban sewage to heat or cool buildings, which can alleviate the two major problems of energy shortage and environmental pollution to a certain extent. This paper introduces the principle of wastewater source heat pump technology and summarizes the current common system forms and their key core technologies. The proposed special heat transfer technology for sewage can effectively solve the problem of blockage and corrosion in the process of sewage heat transfer. Taking the system of an office building in Qingdao as an example, the system design parameter is introduced in detail. The operation monitoring of the heating and air conditioning seasons of this project was completed through a data collection system, and various performance parameters of the system were studied and analyzed. The data was obtained using measured data from one year of system operation. The testing results show that the sewage temperature of the heat pump system in winter is approx. 13.5 °C, the hot water supply temperature is approx. 50 °C, the average COP of the unit is 3.95, and the average COP of the system is 2.96. The calculation results show that the heating energy consumption of the heat pump unit is only 50.81% of that of a traditional heating mode coal-fired boiler and 57.57% of that of an air source heat pump system. In summer, the sewage temperature is approx. 22 °C, the cold-water supply temperature is approx. 5.5 °C, the average COP of the unit is 4.45, and the average COP of the system is 3.25. The cooling energy consumption of the heat pump system is 79.39% of the energy consumption of the traditional chiller and 61.56% of the cooling energy consumption of the air source heat pump system. This shows that the sewage source heat pump system has a remarkable energy-saving effect.

Abstract:The urban sewage source heat pump(USSHP) was applied to the field of heating and air conditioning widely. An urban sewage source heat pump system was designed in China.The system is composed of the scale inhibition device, the wastewater heat exchanger,the heat pump,and other assistant facilities,such as pumps,fans,and end user devices. The system was built and operated from the year of 2008.The characteristic parameters of the system in the heating and cooling status was tested from the wastewater source to the end user,including the temperature and the flux of wastewater,the inlet and outlet parameters of different facilities,and the performance of different facilities in typical operation conditions.Based on the test results,the overall COP of the system in the heating and cooling mode was computed, and the energy efficiency level was analyzed,and then,the method to improve the systems performance was proposed. After the improvements,the characteristic curves of typical operation status were given out.The results indicated that the heating COP is about 4.3,and the cooling COP is about 3.5 in the actual conditions.It could be the reference for designing or evaluating the urban wastewater source heat pump system.

Abstract:Heat pump can be used to recover abundant thermal energy contained in the discharge of municipal wastewater treatment plants. While there are some design standards for common heat pump systems, the design of a sewage source heat pump (SSHP) system is still often based on a fixed heat load and neglects the interdependencies between the equipment sizing and operating parameters. To address the issue that previous design methods have not balanced investment and operational costs well from a global optimisation perspective, this work formulates the simultaneous optimisation of SSHP design and operation as a non-linear programming problem. The proposed model features the consideration of multiple working conditions caused by the impact of ambient temperature variation on the heat load of the SSHP system. The feasibility and potential benefits of the optimised SSHP system are also evaluated by incorporating techno-economic performances and environmental impact analyses into the mathematical framework. A case study is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. The results show that the total annual cost of the optimally designed and operated SSHP in Harbin could be 9% lower than in Beijing and 39% lower than in Shanghai, suggesting that constructing and running the SSHP system in severe cold regions with great heating demands might be more economical than in less cold regions. The CO2, SO2, and NOx emissions of the SSHP could be approximately 50% less than that of coal-fired boiler heating, and 80% less than that of direct electric heating with coal-fired electricity.

Abstract:As an energy-saving and environmentally friendly technology, the urban sewage source heat pump (USSHP) had been widely applied in the field of heating and air conditioning. Chinese researchers recently designed an urban sewage source heat pump system composed of a filth block device, a wastewater heat exchanger, a heat pump, and other assistant facilities, such as pumps, fans, and end user devices. The system was built in 2008, and has been in operation since then. We tested the parameters of the system on the heating and cooling status from the wastewater source to the heat pump, including the temperature and flux of sewage, the inlet and outlet parameters of different facilities, and the performance of different facilities for a typical operation status. Based on the test results, the overall COP of the system in the heating and cooling mode was computed, and the energy efficiency level was analyzed. Then a method was proposed to improve the system’s performance. After the improvements, the characteristic curves of the typical operation status were investigated. The results indicated that the heating COP is about 4.3, and the cooling COP is about 3.5 in the actual operating conditions. These results could serve as a reference for designing or evaluating urban sewage source heat pump systems.

Abstract:A critical issue for BCHP (Building combined cooling heating and power) system is the efficient integration of power generation equipment with different heat utilization technologies. A BCHP system with an urban original sewage source absorption heat pump is proposed. The system is composed of an internal combustion engine, a water-water heat exchanger, a flue gas driven absorption heat pump, a filth block device, a wastewater heat exchanger, and other assistant facilities, such as pumps, fans, and end user devices. In the winter, the waste heat of the flue gas is used to drive absorption heat pump to recover the waste heat of sewage source and the flue gas, and in the summer, the waste heat of the flue gas is used to drive absorption heat pump for cooling, and the heat load of the building is removed to the sewage. In the paper, this kind of system was designed according to the energy consumption of the buildings, and the overall performance of the system in the heating and cooling mode was studied, and the energy efficiency level was analyzed. It is shown that the system is the efficient integration of clean energy and waste heat resource, and the energy efficiency of the system could be improved by 18.5% compared with the conventional BCHP systems.

Abstract:Taking the sewage heat exchanger of a hotel in Beijing as study object, continuously tests the variation in flow rate and temperature of sewage, intermediate water and hot water with time. Based on the tested data, obtains the decaying condition of the heat exchanger efficiency with the using time due to scale formation,and obtains a fitted decaying formula of the heat transfer coefficient. The analysis results provide a reference for the design and selection of sewage heat exchanger of a sewage source heat pump.

Abstract:The flow characteristics of sewage directly affect the technical and economic performance of sewage-source heat pump systems in heat extraction from sewage. To prove there is significant improvement in heat extraction from sewage with the spray heat exchanger for sewage heat pump system (SHPS): (1)The flow states of the falling film on and between the multiple horizontal tubes were investigated experimentally. The correlations of Reynolds number (range from 100 to 600) and the tube distances to the flow were derived; (2)A model was developed for the falling film flow state analysis of the horizontal elliptical tube of the spray heat exchanger using the ellipse plotting method, which was constructed using approximately three circular arcs. The laser-induced fluorescence technology was used to measure the horizontal tube falling film thickness of water. This experiment focused on the film thickness distribution characteristics of Al-brass tubes with outside diameters of 19 mm and 25.4 mm in column flow with the tube spacing ranging from 20 mm to 40 mm and the Reynolds number (Re) ranging from 184 to 368. The images of the gas-liquid interface were captured with a digital camera. The image processing technology was used to quantitatively describe the liquid film thickness around the horizontal tube. The comparisons between the falling film thickness calculation results and experimental data were in good agreement for the variation of the angle of the elliptical surface and the specific liquid rate. Furthermore, a novel correlation was developed to describe the Nusselt number which was subjected to the examined tube shapes; (3) The heat extraction performance of SHPS with spray heat exchanger was experimentally investigated. The temperature of the sewage ranged from 10 to 30℃. The heat supply, input power, COP, and output water temperature of the condenser of the SHPS were discussed. The results of the proposed calculation method were in conformity with the experimental data and gave good predictions with maximum deviation being lower than 8.6%. Thus, the proposed method is helpful in improving the design and the performance of the SHPS.

Abstract:Use of sewage water source heat pump system is a reliable and feasible energy-saving method to recover the heat of sewage water.The working principle of sewage water source heat pump system was introduced.Taking a hotel building as an example,a scheme to re-cover the waste heat with a sewage water source heat pump system was established by applying the architectural features of its own sewage discharge,which could heat the water in the swimming pool.The calculation showed that the sewage water discharged from the building was sufficient for the heating of the swimming pool,and it only applied one third of the waste heat.If a reasonable use of reclaimed water station is possible,it is totally possible then to apply the additional sewage heat and to reduce the discharge of waste heat in the city.Thus,the goal of energy saving and emissions reduction will be achieved.

Abstract:In northern China, many thermal power plants use absorption heat pump to recover low-grade heat from turbine exhaust steam due to the irreplaceable advantages of the absorption heat pump in waste heat recovery. In the process of designing a waste heat recovery system, few researchers have considered the relationship between the design power of the heat pump and the actual heating load of the heating network. Based on the heating load characteristics, this paper puts forward a design idea which uses an absorption heat pump to recover waste heat from a steam turbine exhaust for heating supply. The operation mode of the system for different design powers of the heat pump was stated. An economic analysis model of the waste heat recovery system was proposed, and the optimal design power of the heat pump could be obtained. For a specific unit, the corresponding waste heat recovery system was designed, and various factors affecting the economy of the system were discussed and analyzed in detail.

Abstract:Huge amount of waste heat exists in printing and dyeing wastewater for its large rate of flow.Second stage heat pump system using medium-high and medium-low refrigerants is designed for waste heat recovery from printing and dyeing wastewater,aiming to provide heat for different printing and dyeing process.Meanwhile,the complex water quality of wastewater can cause severe fouling problem in heat exchangers of heat pump system.A fouling monitoring system is designed and relation between fouling and heat transfer is comprehensively analyzed in this study,by which the cleaning period can be predicted and cleaning strategies can be given.This study will provide the reference for waste heat recovery from printing and dyeing wastewater with fouling problem using heap pump system.

Abstract:The corrosion of units or exchangers can be avoided,and exchangers is convenient to clean for sewage source heat pump systems with the immersed sewage heat exchanger.This system was applied widely in china.The author establishes the heat transfer model of the immersed sewage heat exchanger,testifies the accuracy of the model through experimental results,measures transfer coefficients of the exchanger in winter and summer.Experimental results show that the heat transfer number of per unit length is about 100 W/m for this immersed exchanger using the high density polyethylene pipes.

Abstract:Based on heat convection and conduction theory, energy balance equations, and IGSHPA method, develops a concise algorithm model for the design of buried vertical pipe heat exchangers. The comparison between the calculation results by the algorithm and the stable measurement data in a summer in Dalian shows that the error can be neglected for engineering applications. Different design schemes can be obtained under given heat exchange amount by the algorithm, namely the combination of various buried pipe depths, horizontal spacing, fluid velocities inside the pipes and the number of buried pipes, at the same time the corresponding fluid temperatures flowing in and out of the buried pipes can be found.

Abstract:For analysis the MOMA FengHui residential of BaYuquan area ground- water source heat pump engineering on the influence of seawater invasion，Established the groundwater flow and solute transport and temperature coupling numerical model，Simulated forecast the change tendency of the groundwater flow and solute and temperature of two different disposing Wells scheme. Simulation results show that the two kinds of disposing Wells solutions are not cause seawater invasion, the second disposing Wells scheme help to prevent the occurrence of seawater invasion.

Abstract:Municipal sewage treatment plants combine sewage and sludge together.Both of which sewage and sludge can be useful resources.A pilot system was bulit by using a moderately-high temperature sewage source heat pump to thermophilic anaerobic sludge digestion at a municipal sewage treatment plant in Southern China,with the aim to simultaneously provide stabilize sludge and reuse water with the recovery of chemical energy in sludge and thermal energy in sewage simultaneously.By using secondary effluent as the heat source,the heat pump canproduce moderately-high grade thermal energy(60℃—70℃)to supply the heating needed(at about 50℃)for the thermophilic anaerobic digestion.The system was designed by using an indirect-type sewage source heat pump and a fast-adjusting sludge heating system.The results show that the sewage source heat pump could stablize the stable anaerobic reaction temperature with the temperature variation within ±1℃,the digestive gases production rate was 12.4m3/m3(sludge moisture content was 96%),and degradation rates of volatile suspended solid reached 52.2% when hydraulic retention time was 5.5 days.Then a long-term monitoring of secondary effluent temperature and water quality,which influenced the stability and efficiency of sewage source heat pump system,was conducted and the impacts were discussed.

Abstract:From the analysis on energy consumption,a reclaimed water source heat pump based combined heating and cooling system was proposed to use the energy in available resources from wastewater treatment plants.In the present sysytem,a reclaimed water source heat pump is used to absorb the heat of wastewater from the plant to meet the heating need in the thermophilic anaerobic digestion process.Then the wastewater with lower temperature is applied to cool the plant buildings in summer.The effect of the evaporating temperature on the system efficiency was analyzed on the basis of the energy efficiency index.The calculation results indicate that the combined heating and cooling system proposed can reduce the energy consumption for the thermophilic anaerobic digestion process and the building cooling in municipal wastewater treatment plants by 30% in summer and 40% in winter.

Abstract:Ground source heat pump system has been developed quickly in recent years for its low operating costs and no contaminant.The design of geothermal heat exchangers and the annual heat balance problem is the most important and difficult problem in ground source heat pump system.Bessel function was used to establish heat transfer model of U shape buried pipe of geothermal heat exchangers under harmonic and steady boundary conditions.The annual fluid temperature in U shape pipe can be computed using the heat transfer model when annual heating or cooling load is known.The curves are computed showing how maximum and minimum fluid temperature varies with the unit length design load of U shape pipe.The curves can be used to design U shape pipe.The annual total heating and cooling energy,the peak heating and cooling load should meets some conditions to assure the ground source heat pump system nm well.The conditions were studied and could be used to design the heating and cooling source in a building.
