Abstract:In this study, Ni-based, Ni+WC and Ni+WC+Cr 3 C 2 cladding coatings (named by Ni-1, Ni-2, Ni-3, respectively) were prepared by a hybrid fabrication method combining laser cladding technology with pre-placed powders and ultrasonic impact treatment. Comparative analysis of microstructures and surface properties indicated that γ-(Fe, Ni) solid solution was the main phase in three coatings besides M 23 C 6 , W 2 C and WC carbides while ultrasonic impact treatment did not change the phase compositions of Ni-based coatings. For Ni-1 cladding coating, there existed cellular dendrites with fishbone-like precipitates at the bottom region while dendrites and equiaxed dendrites appeared at the middle and top region. In Ni-2 cladding coating, cellular dendrites and eutectic structures with flocculent characteristics were generated. By contrast, most of WC particles sank at the bottom region while polygonal Cr 3 C 2 particles distributed at the middle and top regions in Ni-3 cladding coating. After ultrasonic impact treatment, a obvious plastic deformation layer was produced in Ni-1 coating and original reticular eutectic structures are broken into particles. In Ni-2 coating, both the eutectic structures and polygonal carbides were impacted into fine ones. As for Ni-3 coating, local collapse phenomenon occurred while the existence of Cr 3 C 2 and WC particles prevented the plastic deformation of the surface layer. The maximum average microhardness (831HV 0.1 ) and the lowest weight loss were obtained in Ni-3 cladding coating. While corrosion resistance of laser cladding Ni-1 coating in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was better than other two kinds of Ni-based composite coatings. After UIT, both the wear resistance and corrosion resistance were enhanced obviously resulting from grain refinement and dispersion strengthening.
