Abstract:Multi-body dynamic analysis and simulation is done to a typical type of multi-link rear suspension by ADMAS.The basic performance of the suspension is evaluated and the correctness is identified through K&C bench testing.The purpose is to get a correct CAE model of this rear suspension.

Abstract:The vehicle-generated road damage can be effectively reduced when the relevant parameters of hydro-pneumatic suspension in engineering vehicles are tuned reasonably. Multi-body dynamics model with ADAMS, hydraulic system model with AMESim and spectra of road surface roughness model with Simulink were established based on 4-DOF signal-axis vehicle model with consideration of the nonlinear characteristic of accumulator, fluid resistance, check valve and pipeline in the system. "95 percentage fourth power aggregate force" was used as the criterion for road-friendliness and co-simulation was achieved. The relation between road-friendliness and relevant parameters of interconnected hydro-pneumatic suspension was analyzed through co-simulation. In certain extent, the road damage coefficient first decreased and then increased with the increase of the initial pressure of accumulator and the diameter of damper hole in suspension cylinder. The road damage coefficient decreased with the increase of the total volume of accumulator and the inner diameter of pipe. The length of pipe had little influence on the road damage coefficient.

Abstract:The design of a vehicle suspension, which is truly a multi-degree of freedom mechanism, is really challenging. This paper primarily focuses on Kinematics and Dynamic analysis of the system in ADAMS. A specific module of chassis platform is developed to analyze suspension ride comfort on adaptability to different vehicle with ADAMS/Car. The work intention is to make a parametric ADAMS model and then link it to a Knowledge Based Engineering application to facilitate designer to quickly carry out designing iterations in order to reduce development time. The Knowledge Based Engineering software is made using object oriented language called ‘Object Definition Language’ which is developed using VC++ software languages. The module not only carry through parametric modeling of front and rear suspension and other subsystems of chassis quickly and compactly, but also can carry on the analysis and optimization of various factors those have crucial impact on ride comfort. The module offers two test-bend, vehicle virtual simulation test stand and four-post test rig. Finally, the module is applied to analyze two kinds of cars which used chassis platform: front and rear frequency determination, pulse inspiration simulation and Broad simulation. The results show that the chassis platform being adopted by two kinds of cars meet the ride comfort requirements.

Abstract:Kinematic and Compliance (K&C) characteristics are the critical attribution to evaluate suspension performance. ADAMS-Car is a popular tool to simulate for suspension K&C characteristics simulation. Engineering experience has proved that even with all the component ratings as input, it is not guaranteed that the simulation could accord with physical testing, a lot of idealized simplification has their effects, e.g.: Difference on ride height, Friction, Hysteresis, Simplification of tyre mechanism, Assembly tolerance, Problem with small magnitude parameters. This paper will exemplify all this.

Abstract:Vehicle suspension system plays an important role in the influence of whole vehicle handling and riding characteristic, as an important part of vehicle chassis system. In the paper, based on the basic test parameters and relevant modeling data of ex-MacPherson suspension of the sample car, the virtual prototype model of this suspension is built by making use of ADAMS/Car module. According to the requirements of the relevant design, some of the model parameters have been adjusted, on the basis of which, K&C characteristic simulation before and after the adjustment is done. The results show that, after adjustment, the majority of suspension K&C characteristic is satisfied, and improved the kinematics of the suspension system.

Abstract:The simulation model of complete vehicle performance for a new car was established by using multi-body system dynamics software ADAMS/CAR,then this model was divided into several subsystems,and the models for subsystems were established and validated respectively.The inertia and rubber parts mechanics characteristic parameters of car suspension,powertrain and tire etc were determined based on measurement and finite element method;the flexible body dynamic model of twist beam type rear suspension of the car was built by using modal synthesis method;the kinematics and dynamics pre-analysis of the important subsystems and complete vehicle model validated the complete vehicle dynamics model.

Abstract:The multi-body system analysis has become one of the main simulation techniques to calculate the kinematics characteristics of a car suspension under wheel travel or to build a virtual prototype model of a vehicle in order to predict the vehicle dynamics performance. The modeling of twist beam rear suspensions is always difficult for the unique structural behavior of this component. A non-linear method based on multi-body dynamics software (ADAMS/Car) was used to represent the twist beam within the suspension system. The kinematics characteristic analysis of the rear suspension was realized by means of ADAMS/Car. The main suspension parameters (toe angle, camber angle and wheel track variation) were calculated by changing wheel travel. The result shows that the method of suspension kinematics analysis by using ADAMS/Car can be used in the design of suspensions conveniently.

Abstract:Operation stability of vehicles is directly impacted by suspension K&C. Multi-body dynamic CAE analysis and suspension K&C design are two tools for suspension design, which are fundamental both in theory and test. Test and simulation analysis will be conducted to a benchmarking vehicle in the development of a sedan. Geely has established its chassis lab, which is equipped with K&C test equipment, operation stability performance test equipment, and owns subjective appraisers. Testing data can be accumulated by suspension K&C and vehicle operation stability and riding comfort test on competing vehicles and developing vehicles. Through analysis of the test data, a performance comparison of different suspension structures, i.e. McPherson strut, torsion beam, and multi-link, thus suspension structures appropriate for different vehicles of Geely's platforms are determined. In addition, optimization analysis is conducted to suspension structure and vehicle performance with ADAMS/CAR and CARSIM software to confirm the vehicle performance and system performance. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Abstract:A model of the macpherson suspension is built by using multi-body system dynamics simulation software ADAMS/Car template.The kinematics and elastic kinematics simulation for the macpherson suspension were carried out under the simulation of parallel wheel travel and comparing with the simulation results.The result shows that the elastic component had apparent effects on wheel location parameters.This can effectively improve vehicle manipulation stability.

And then, study the influence of the suspension system on the vehicle handling stability and make the evaluation under the conditions of wheel travel, applied load and body roll, which provides a basis for optimizing the suspension and improving the handling stability of the trapezoidal link rear independent suspension to the Crossover.

Abstract:The past few decades have witnessed rapid technological growth in the area of automobile engineering. One way of improving the market share is to provide a vehicle with maximum comfort which may be achieved by modifying the suspension system. Passenger car commonly use coil suspension system in their vehicles to absorb road shocks and provide comfort to passenger. Nonlinear springs are most commonly used in vehicle suspension system. Much research work has been carried out on coil spring with the objective of getting optimized designs to improved passenger comfort. This paper discusses about the analysis of the existing of the suspension system and improved design is suggested for achieving maximum comfort. Passenger vehicle suspension system data from the existing vehicle are collected and a model is created using UG. Automatic dynamics Of Mechanical System (ADAMS) has become an important feature of roadside hardware design and analysis in recent year. Using ADAMS analysis of existing model is carried out to determine the forces acting on components of suspension system. With the view of minimizing the forces acting on the components of the suspension system all of the critical components of the suspension system such as mounting points, track width and mass were modified and incorporated into the new model along with the capacity to make the most important components force act with time by carefully modeling the geometric details such as mounting points. It is believed that these modifications significantly improve the performance of simulating impacts with off road side.

In the end, the kinematic performances simulated are given . The analysis methold calculating results can be used for the optimal design of automobile suspensions.

Abstract:In this paper, a multi-body dynamics model of amphibious vehicle is established in terms of dynamic simulative software ADAMS/Car. The front and rear suspension system are studied and analyzed respectively. The handling stability performance of front suspension is simulated under step steering input, pulse steering input, steady turning, and meandered test in related to specifications. According to the simulation results, the handling stability of amphibious vehicle is evaluated objectively.

Abstract:The design of a vehicle suspension is a complex and challenging task. The suspension system serves a dual purpose of providing adequate ride comfort and road holding which are two contradicting parameters. The limits for achieving an optimum RC value is governed by the ISO 2631-1 1997. An Experiment was conducted on a quarter car test rig to obtain the ride comfort by varying different parameters. The same dimensions of the test rig were replicated to develop a quarter car simulation model in ADAMS. This paper primarily focuses on developing a validated quarter car model in ADAMS. Validation of the models were carried out by performing the same set of trial as on the quarter car model with experimental set up and on ADMS model. The input parameters considered were sprung and un sprung mass, tyre pressure, speed, spring and damper stiffness. Also, wheel alignment parameters have been considered such as camber and toe. The developed ADAMS model obtained a good correlation with the experimental test rig and hence, the model can be used for further analysis and optimization.

Abstract:When a vehicle is running,its suspension is heavily loaded due to the motion.The durability is then one of the key problems in vehicle design.Multi-axial loading laboratory fatigue tests are widely used to shorten the development process,reduce costs and enhance market competitiveness.This paper presents a practical method for simulating multi-axial fatigue tests of a rear axle using a dynamic finite element model of the rear axle and data processing in MATLAB.The simulation of the laboratory fatigue tests includes system identification,calculation of the input dynamic loads for the finite-element model and calculation of the stress-strain response reproduced and compared with the measured stress strain response.With the errors of less than 5％ with the critical fatigue areas in the rear axle located where the section sizes change.

Abstract:Proper simulation design and experimental analysis is an efficient and low-costing way in researching and developing commercial vehicle cab suspension. A dynamic simulation model was established and testified by bench test for the development of one cab suspension, and based on which the performance of vibration isolation was optimized. A finite element model was also built and validated using the boundary condition extracted from the dynamic model. Several limiting conditions were analyzed which giving back necessary information in modifying the structure of the cab suspension. The fatigue characteristics of the cab suspension were also tested by the fatigue tester. The results show that the difficulties encountered in researching and developing the cab suspension can be efficiently solved by the method of simulation design and experimental analysis.
A Study on the Modified Skyhook Control of the Suspension System in Multi-Axial Heavy Truck

Abstract:A simulation model for four-axle heavy truck-road system is developed with ADAMS based on vehicle dynamics and virtual prototype technology and is then validated by a real vehicle ride comfort test.Properly configured air suspensions are chosen to replace the tandem suspensions on driving axles for preliminarily improve the road friendliness and ride comfort of vehicle.With the consideration of mechanical characteristics of shock absorber,a co-simulation with both ADAMS and Matlab/Simulink on semi-active modified skyhook damping(MSD) control of the suspension system in heavy truck virtual prototype is conducted.Orthogonal experiment is designed with control parameters as variables.Finally the control parameters ensuring the best combined performance of road friendliness and ride comfort of truck are determined through range analysis and variance analysis.The simulation results indicate that semi-active MSD control can effectively improve both dynamic load and vertical vibration of truck with better robustness to the variation in road grade.
